SCOPE These specifications define the performance requirements of various
4、types of engine paint systems, when applied over both Rigid (Metallic) and Non-Rigid (Plastic) Substrates. 2. APPLICATION These specifications were released originally to define paint performance for engine blocks, oil pans, engine accessories, brackets, etc. as well as sheet metal and plastic parts
5、 within the engine compartment. WSS-M2P185-A1: Paint systems per this specification provide excellent adhesion, chemical and heat resistance as well as superior corrosion protection for and stone chip resistance. They are designed for highly visible applications and can also be used in engine interi
6、ors, e.g. the oil pan. Appropriate paint systems are cathodic electrocoat primers with added application of powder coat where increased stone chip resistance properties are required. WSS-M2P185-A2: Paint systems according to this specification provide good adhesion; chemical and heat resistance as w
7、ell as good corrosion protection and stone chip resistance. They are designed for highly visible applications, e.g. engine blocks. Appropriate paint systems are electrocoat primer or high film build powdercoat. WSS-M2P185-A3: Paint systems according to this specification provide moderate chemical an
8、d heat resistance and moderate corrosion protection. Appropriate paint systems are low/medium film build powdercoat or engine enamel. REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For
10、 Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.3 PRETREATMENT 3.3.1 Cleaning Sheet metal parts, castings and plastic components as specified on the Engineering Drawing must be cleaned to be free from oil, rust, dirt, fingerprints, moisture and other foreign materials. 3.3.2 Phosphating Steel parts accord
11、ing to WSS-M2P185-A1/A2 shall be zinc phosphated and conform to the requirements of WSS-M3P1-D. For steel parts according to WSS-M2P185-A3 any applicable pretreatment may be used while parts according to WSS-M2P185-A4 do not require specific pre-treatment. 3.4 TOPCOAT The paint materials shall be ap
12、plied as required in the appropriate material specifications and/or as recommended by the supplier. 3.4.1 Color and Gloss Black or gray and semi gloss or as specified on Engineering Drawing 3.4.2 Initial Hardness The finish shall be sufficiently hard after curing to with stand normal handling withou

22、me, supplier, spec.) used for approval of engine paint systems according to this specification, e.g. substrate, cleaner or pre-treatment materials, etc. shall be noted in the Initial Sample Report, together with test location and conditions. 5.2 AUTOMOTIVE LIQUIDS For tests per para 3.11.1 - 3.11.7
23、use Factory Fill material; for tests per para 3.11.12 and 3.11.13 use common brands. All test liquids (name, supplier) must be noted in the Initial Sample Report.
