、A8 MIN PERFORMANCE NOT TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE These specifications define the performance requirements of various types of engine paint systems, when applied over both Rigid (Metallic) and Non-Rigid (Plastic) Substrates. 2. APPLICATION These specifications were released originally to def
、ine paint performance for engine blocks, oil pans, engine accessories, brackets, etc. as well as sheet metal and plastic parts within the engine compartment. WSS-M2P185-A1: Paint systems per this specification provide excellent adhesion, chemical and heat resistance as well as superior corrosion pro
、tection for and stone chip resistance. They are designed for highly visible applications and can also be used in engine interiors, e.g. the oil pan. Appropriate paint systems are cathodic electrocoat primers with added application of powder coat where increased stone chip resistance properties are r
、equired. WSS-M2P185-A2: Paint systems according to this specification provide good adhesion; chemical and heat resistance as well as good corrosion protection and stone chip resistance. They are designed for highly visible applications, e.g. engine blocks. Appropriate paint systems are electrocoat p
、rimer or high film build powdercoat. WSS-M2P185-A3: Paint systems according to this specification provide moderate chemical and heat resistance and moderate corrosion protection. Appropriate paint systems are low/medium film build powdercoat or engine enamel. ENGINEERING MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONWSS-M2

They are for minor applications or invisible parts only. Any applicable paint system may be used. WS
、S-M2P185-A5/A8: Paint systems according to these specifications provide protection and cosmetic enhancement for Flexible Substrates. Whilst corrosion resistance is not a consideration with flexible substrates, there are heat, hot oil, water immersion, coolant and fuel resistance requirements, which
、have to be satisfied. These resistance capabilities follow the same numerically orientated property structures listed in WSS-M2P185-A1/A4. Paint systems capable of satisfying WSS-M2P185-A5/A8 requirements will invariably require a substrate surface pre-treatment in the form of flaming, plasma or pri

REQUIREMENTS 3.0 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.3 PRETREATMENT 3.3.1 Cleaning Sheet
、 metal parts, castings and plastic components as specified on the Engineering Drawing must be cleaned to be free from oil, rust, dirt, fingerprints, moisture and other foreign materials. 3.3.2 Phosphating Steel parts according to WSS-M2P185-A1/A2 shall be zinc phosphated and conform to the requireme
、nts of WSS-M3P1-D. For steel parts according to WSS-M2P185-A3 any applicable pretreatment may be used while parts according to WSS-M2P185-A4 do not require specific pre-treatment. 3.3.3 Flaming/Plasma/Priming Polypropylene parts/components/panels according to WSS-M2P185-A5/A8 will invariably require
、 a surface pre-treatment in the form of flaming, plasma or priming in order to impart the top coat paint system with the necessary adhesion characteristics capable of satisfying the performance levels of these Specifications. 3.4 TOPCOAT The paint materials shall be applied as required in the approp
