2、 TO BE USED FOR NEW DESIGN 1. SCOPE The material defined by this specification is an additive for engine coolants - both 100% water and ethylene glycol-based antifreeze solution. 2. APPLICATION This specification was released originally for material which enhances long-term protection properties, su
3、ch as corrosion/sealing/cavitation protection, of coolants in heavy duty diesel engines. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 STANDARD REQUIREMENTS FOR PRODUCTION MATERIALS Material suppliers and part producers must conform to the Companys Standard Requirements For Production Materials (WSS-M99P1111-A). 3.2 LABORATO
4、RY TESTS The following tests shall be performed using a 50:50 solution of monoethylene glycol (technical grade, free of iron and chloride, and containing less than 10% of other glycols) and corrosive water (ASTM D 1384). This test solution shall be treated with the recommended level of the candidate
5、 additive. 3.2.1 Glassware Corrosion (ASTM D 1384 except solder coupons to be of high lead type with 97.5 lead/2 tin/0.5 silver composition) Weight Loss, max . Cast iron, steel, brass 5 mg/coupon . 7、.4 Reserve Alkalinity, min 8 mL (ASTM D 1121) 3.2.5 Compatibility Must pass Additive package approved to this specification shall be compatible with all commonly used engine coolants. To demonstrate compatibility a solution with the recommended level of the candidate additive and 50% appropriate coo
8、lant in corrosive water (refer to ADTM D 1384) must be cooled to -10 Cand subsequently heated to 150 C. No phase or gel formation should be observed. After the necessary time to cool the solution to ambient temperature, this solution must pass preceding paragraphs 3.2.3 and 3.2.4. Notes: 1. Wait for
9、 a thermal stability in each bath; 2. Pictures against an appropriate contrast should be taken and reported. 3.2.6 Storage Stability Must pass Store the additive in a suitable container at 65 to 67 C for 20 days. The aged additive must meet all the requirements listed in the preceding clauses. 3.3 C
10、OOLING SYSTEM PERFORMANCE TESTS The candidate additive shall be approved only after successful completion of appropriate dynamometer and/or fleet tests specified by the affected product engineering office. 3.4 SERVICE ADDITIVE The following requirements must be met for coolant additive supplied to F
11、ord Parts and Service Division only. 3.4.1 Quality Control Supplement Specific chemical and physical properties are not specified in para 3.4, but an Engineering Quality Control Supplement will be issued by Materials Engineering to cover each approved material. The selected engineering approved sour
12、ce shall furnish appropriate chemical and physical properties along with the production tolerance limits that apply to the material(s) upon which approval was given. The agreed upon values and limits will be issued to Quality Control by the affected product engineering office. These values will then
13、 be used by Quality Control and Material Engineering for ongoing quality verifications. The Quality Control Supplement is an integral requirement of this specification. If more than one source supplies material to this specification, a Quality Control Supplement will be issued for each specific appr
14、oved material. Any precautions involved in the use of the material
15、must be clearly stated on the product label. 3.4.2.2 The label(s) for the material(s) must comply with Toxicology and Federal regulations. Supplier shall furnish the affected product engineering office with the label(s). 3.4.2.3 Supplier shall certify in writing to Ford Motor Company that the compos
16、ition of his product has been examined, that the label recommended is in compliance with Federal regulations, and shall guarantee, in writing which contains the name and address of Supplier and is signed by Supplier or an authorized agent of Supplier, that no product shipped or otherwise delivered b
17、y Supplier at any time to Ford Motor Company, or on its order, is, as of the date of such shipment or delivery, misbranded or banned according to Federal regulations. Completed Material Health and Safety Data Sheets and Hazardous Substance Data Sheets must be submitted by the supplier to the Ford Mo
18、tor Company toxicologist. 3.4.2.5 Supplier must furnish detailed application instructions and specific usage information for container labels. This portion of the label information must be approved by the affected product engineering office. 3.4.2.6 If the label submitted by the supplier contains an
19、y advertising claims, suitable corroborative testing data must also be furnished. Such claims and data are encouraged. 3.4.3 Marking 3.4.3.1 Containers and cartons must be marked with a code indicating source and compounding date of the material. Supplier must furnish this code to the affected produ
20、ct engineering office. Container marking may be waived if approved in writing by the affected product engineering office. 3.4.3.2 The test report data furnished by the supplier showing compliance with this specification shall give the specific test methods followed and shall give specific answers to generalized requirements. 3.4.4 Packaging The packaging of the material to which this specification applies shall conform to all applicable requirements of Ford Motor Company STA office.
