SCOPE This standard aims at establishing the physical properties of the 1C1B top coat that is applied in the paint shop to improve the appearance and enhance the chemical resistance and physical properties of the automobile painted surface. 2. GENERAL DESCRIPTION 1C1B top coat consists of alkyd an

3、d melamine resin as the base and color pigment. 1C1B permit manual application with a general air spray gun and automatic application by the electrostatic BELL machine. 3. TEST CONDITIONS 3.1. Standard conditions of test place 3.1.1. The test shall basically be conducted at temperature of 202 and re

4、lative humidity of 65%5%. 3.1.2. When the above conditions cannot be met, temperature and relative humidity shall be entered on the test report. 3.2. Material condition of test piece 3.2.1. The test piece shall basically be the finished vehicle built to the determined coating spec, but the one built

5、 of the same material to the same spec may be used. 3.3. Baking condition 3.3.1. Test piece baking conditions shall basically be (1355)20 minutes (effective time). 3.3.2. The baking time and temperature shall be based on the point when the temperature of the material to coat on reaches a designated

6、point after the test piece is put into a dry oven. 4. REQUIREMENTS 4.1. Properties of delivered material 4.1.1. Color : according to color specifications by models. 4.1.2. Dilution viscosity (EDS-T-7908, FORD CUP NO. 4, at 20) Add EDS-M-8710 solid thinner to the undiluted paint to adjust to the specified viscosity at

9、 20. 4.2.2. Storage stability under undiluted solution (EDS-T-7963) (1) Check the paint condition after exposure to 50120 hours and subsequent exposure from ambient temperature to 202K. (2) After storage, the paint shall be free from gel and seeding and the viscosity increase compared to the initial

10、 state shall less than 20 Sec. (3) No abnormalities in workability and external appearance. 4.2.3. Dilution stability (1) No precipitation after dilution to the specified viscosity, fill it in mass cylinder and subsequent exposure to room temperature for 2 hours. (2) Vessel : Mass cylinder capable o

11、f 500L 4.2.4. Coating method (1) Manual application with a general air spray gun. (2) Automatic application by the electrostatic BELL machine. 4.2.5. Precoated surface (1) Phosphate film + EDS-M-8711 cathodic electro dip primer (2) Phosphate film + EDS-M-8711 + sanded and nonsanded primer surfacer E

12、DS-M-8740, EDS-M-8756, EDS-M-8766. 4.2.6. Flash-off time Expose to 4045 for about 8 minutes. 4.2.7. Drying method: convection drying 4.2.8. Drying time and temperature: Dry at 1355(based on body temperature) for 20 effective minutes 4.2.9. Appearance after drying: After drying, the coated surface sh

REQUIREMENTS AFTER DRYING 5.1. Dry film thickness (EDS-T-7970) 4050W 5.2. Repairability (unassembly) When repair co

14、ating is applied 3 times with the same paint (135520 minutes: effective time), it shall show no signs of color change or loss of gloss. 5.3. Hiding power (EDS-T-7914) 5.3.1. Hiding power with the black and white sheets shall conform to the base coat color characteristics as long as it does not affec

15、t work in the line. 5.3.2. The practical hiding force shall not be smaller than 70% of the specified film thickness. 5.4. Paint film composition of test piece Condition A : Phosphate film + EDS-M-8711 + EDS-M-8740, EDS-M-8756, EDS-M-8766 + EDS-M-8732 5.5. Requirements after exposure to ambient tempe

16、rature for 24 hours 5.5.1. Distinction Of Image / Gloss (EDS-T-7907, ATI 1864 SQC S/N 620) To be min 80% when measured under test piece condition A from an angle of 20. 5.5.2. Adhesion (EDS-T-7910) (1) Tape : 3M #610 (2) Cutter : Use a cutter to JIS K 5400 or equivalent cutter (NT cutter A type is r

17、ecommended) (3) Tape peel angle : 90g (4) Cutter angle : about 30g (5) Adhesion under test piece condition A shall be GT-0 and there shall be no drop in adhesion after elapse of 4 weeks 5.5.3. Hardness (EDS-T-7948) Hardness under test piece Condition A shall be 80 95. 5.5.4. Cupping (EDS-T-7974) Cup

18、ping under test piece Condition A shall not be smaller than 5mm and there shall be no drop in cupping performance after elapse of 4 weeks. 5.5.5. Bending (EDS-T-7912) (1) Conical corn diameter : 9.540.5X (2) Length: 212X (3) When tested under test piece Condition A, there shall be no sign of surface

Over baking (EDS-T-7919) After exposure to 13520 minutes (effective time)3 cycles (initial drying excluded) under test piece

20、Condition A, there shall be no abnormalities in the film surface (swelling, peeling, discoloration, etc) and adhesion shall be GT-0. 5.6. Requirements after exposure to ambient temperature for 72 hours 5.6.1. Humidity (EDS-T-7951) (1) Test condition : 403, 98%RH Min. (2) After test under test piece

21、Condition A for 240 hours, there shall be no changes on the surface. (3) After exposure to ambient temperature for 24 hours, adhesion shall be Min. GT-1. 5.6.2. Gasoline resistance (EDS-T-7909) After exposure to ambient temperature for 24 hours immediately following test under test piece Condition A

22、, there shall be no changes on the surface and Min. rating 2 shall be ensured. 5.6.3. Oil resistance (EDS-T-7930) After exposure to 402K, 932%RH for 48 hours under test piece Condition A, rating 0 shall be ensured. 5.6.4. Acid resistance (EDS-T-7920) After light polishing under test piece condition

23、A, there shall be no corrosion when observed visually or with a microscope. 5.6.5. Alkali resistance (EDS-T-7955) After soaking in 0.1N NaOH at the ambient temperature for 7 hours under test piece condition A, there shall be no abnormalities in the appearance.(Rating 0 shall be ensured) 5.6.6. Chipp

24、ing resistance (EDS-T-7945) (1) Gravel : JIS #7, 50g (2) Test temperature : normal and cold (-20) (3) After test under test piece condition A, rating 6 or higher shall be ensured. After test under EDS-M-8740 and EDS-M-8756, rating 6 or higher, and EDS-M-8766, rating 8 or higher shall be ensured. 5.6

25、.7. Cold/hot cycle test (under test piece condition A and 3 times of re-painting with no sanding) (EDS-T-7958) (1) (8010 minutes)(-4010 minutes)(2010 minutes) as 1 cycle, conduct a total of 20 cycles. (2) After 20 cycles, the film surface shall show no sign of abnormality, such as crack and chalking

26、. 5.6.8. Shipping wax resistance (EDS-T-7906 clause 4.7) (1) After applying wax under test piece condition A, perform W-O-M test for 500 hours. Q.U.V (EDS-T-7921) (1) Condition C : 8 hours UV at 60, 4 hours Condensation at 40. (2) After elapse of 500 hours under test piece condition A, t

29、he surface shall show no signs of abnormalities, such as discoloration (Minolta color difference gage 45: E 4 Max.), swell, cracks, chalking. 6. OTHER REQUIREMENTS 6.1. Sandability 6.1.1. Sanding method : Dry & moisture sanding with sand paper #600 (primer surfacer coating areas), #800 (top coating

30、areas) 6.1.2. Test method and criterion (1) Coat the 200300X of electro-deposition test piece as the specified film thickness base on relevant external primer surfacer, and dry it with normal conditions. (2) Sanding Method #600 dry sanding (primer surfacer coating areas) Normal Coating #800 dry sand

31、ing (top coating areas) #600 moisture sanding (primer surfacer coating areas) Normal Coating #800 moisture sanding (top coating areas) (3) After removing the foreign matters on the test piece, coat with relevant top coating and dry it. (4) Criterion : No problems at sanding, no difference in gloss b

32、etween the sanded surface and normal surface after top coating and no noticeable sanding marks. 6.2. When the top coat is applied on the cathodic electro dip primer (EDS-M-8711), the basic requirements for physical properties shall be met. 6.3. Circulation stability After storage inside the paint ci

33、rculation system under the conditions identical to the line conditions for 2 weeks, there shall be no deformation or marked increase in viscosity and good workability shall be provided. 34、 Technology 6.4. The clear coat shall meet the requirements for compatibility with D.G.U (Direct Glazing Urethane Bond: EDS-M-8521) under the specified conditions (EDS-T-7902-4). 6.5. The clear coat shall meet the requirements for use in contact with the door weather-strips under the specified condi

35、tions (EDS-M-7304, EDS-T-7006). 6.6. Florida outdoor exposure (EDS-T-7008, clause 6.14) 6.6.1. After Florida exposure for 12 hours under test piece condition A, the surface shall show no signs of abnormalities, such as crack and blister. 6.6.2. After foreign matters on the film are removed by light

36、polishing, the gloss-retaining ratio shall be min. 80%. 6.6.3. Very slight color change is allowed. 6.7. Workability 6.7.1. Perform the comparative test with mass production color in principle. 6.7.2. Sagging limits (1) Perform the resistance impact onto the 300500X test piece coated with electro-de

37、position at 5cm intervals, with 1/2INCH500g of weight. (2) Apply the base of top coat with uniform thickness. (3) Remove the masking tape and set the test piece vertically for 5 minutes in order that the masking areas shall be to go down an underside, and then dry it. (4) Apply the test piece with u

38、niform extrusion volume of gun when the comparative tests. (5) Criterion : Measure the film thickness where the sagging of the masking areas shall be 5cm. This point is called as the film thickness of sagging limits. 6.7.3. Pinhole limits (1) Apply the base of top coat onto the 300500X test piece co

39、ated with uniform thickness and dry it under the condition equivalent to the line condition. (2) Measure the film thickness of the pinhole portion. 6.7.4. Over spray dust (1) Perform the coating and over spray to the relevant base of top coat under the condition equivalent to the line condition, and

40、 set it to the line condition. Cratering stability: When the top coat is applied after stirring with a stirrer for 4 hours at the ambient temperature, the surface shall show no signs of cratering. 6.9. Electrostatic painting performance: When observed following electrostatic painting under the con

42、dition equivalent to the line condition, the surface shall show no signs of abnormalities. 6.10. Compatibility with PVC sealer: When examined after application of the top coat alone & surfacer primer, top coat onto the PVC sealer, the surface shall show no signs of defects and the adhesion shall be

43、GT-0. 6.11. There shall be no factors that may adversely affect the line work. 7. EFFECTIVE PERIOD Effective period of the paint shall be 6 months from the date of manufacturer and at delivery the paint shall be free from severe sedimentation or non-soluble masses. 8.
