SCOPE This standard specifies the physical properties of the primer surfacer used to improve quality of the coated surface, such as adhesion and chipping resistance.2. GENERAL PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF MATERIAL The primer surfacer contains urethane modified polyester a

3、nd melamine resin as the base material with addition of color pigment and permits both manual application with a general air spray gun and automatic application by the electrostatic bell machine. 3. TEST CONDITIONS 3.1. Standard conditions of test place 3.1.1. The test shall basically be conducted a

4、t temperature of 202K and relative humidity of 65%5%. 3.1.2. When the above conditions cannot be met, temperature and relative humidity shall be entered on the test report. 3.2. Material condition of test piece The test piece shall basically be the finished vehicle built to the determined coating sp

5、ec, but the one built of the same material to the same spec may be used. 3.3. Baking condition 3.3.1. Test piece curing conditions shall basically be (1455)20minutes(effective time). 3.3.2. The curing time and temperature shall be based on the point when the temperature of the material to coat on re

6、aches a designated point after the test piece is put into a dry oven. 4. REQUIREMENTS 4.1. Properties of delivered material 4.1.1. Color : According to color specifications by models 4.1.2. Delivery viscosity (EDS-T-7908) (1) Ford cup #4, 20 (2) Specified value2 Sec. 4.1.3. Non-Volatile (EDS-T-7937)

Specific gravity (EDS-T-7965, clause 7) (1) 100 cc Specific gravity cup, 20 (2) Specified value 0.02 4.2. Material condition at coating 4.2.1. Dilution viscosity (EDS-T-7908, FORD CUP No. 4 at 20) Add EDS-

9、M-8710 solid thinner to the undiluted paint to adjust to specified viscosity at 20. 4.2.2. Storage stability (undiluted solution, EDS-T-7963) (1) Check the paint condition after exposure to 50120 hours and subsequent exposure from the room temperature to 202K. (2) After storage, the paint shall be f

10、ree from gel and seeding and the viscosity increase compared to the initial state shall less than 20 Sec. (3) No abnormalities in workability and external appearance after storage stability. 4.2.3. Dilution stability. (1) No precipitation after dilution to the specified viscosity, fill it in mass cy

11、linder and subsequent exposure to room temperature for 2 hours. (2) Vessel : Mass cylinder capable of 500L 4.2.4. Coating method (1) Automatic application by the electrostatic BELL machine. (2) Manual application with a general air spray gun. 4.2.5. Film composition of the steel plate for primer sur

12、facer coating (1) Phosphate film (2) Phosphate film + EDS-M-8773(Electro coat) 4.2.6. Flash - off time Maintain approximately 8 minutes at a temperature of 4045. 4.2.7. Drying method : convection drying. 4.2.8. Drying period and temperature : Maintain 20 minutes(effective time) at 1455(based on body

13、 temperature). 4.2.9. REQUIREMENTS

14、AFTER DRYING 5.1. Film thickness (EDS-T-7970) 5.1.1. Exterior primer surfacer : 3035W . 5.1.2. Interior primer surfacer : 1525W . 5.2. Hiding power (EDS-T-7914) 5.2.1. For the interior primer surfacer, which is applied for finishing of the hood and trunk resistance parts, and exterior primer surface

15、r, the practical hiding power shall not exceed 20W on the electro coating film. 5.2.2. Hiding power with the black and white sheets shall conform to the primer surfacer color characteristics as long as it does not affect work(practical hiding power shall not exceed 20W ) in the line. 5.3. Paint film

16、 composition of test piece. 5.3.1. Condition A : Phosphate film + EDS-M-8773 + EDS-M-8766. 5.3.2. Condition B : Phosphate film + EDS-M-8766. 5.3.3. Condition C : Phosphate film + EDS-M-8773 + EDS-M-8766(Exterior primer surfacer) + EDS-M-8731, EDS-M-8732. 5.4. Requirements after exposure to room temp

17、erature for 24 hours 5.4.1. Distinction Of Image / Gloss (EDS-T-7907, BYK HAZE-Gloss Meter) To be 70% min. for exterior primer surfacer, 75% min. for interior primer surfacer when measured under test piece conditions A with an angle of 60. 5.4.2. Adhesion (EDS-T-7910) (1) Tape : 3M #610 (2) Cutter :

18、 Use a cutter to JIS K 5400 or equivalent cutter (NT cutter A type is recommended) (3) Tape peel angle : 90 (4) Cutter angle : approximately 30 (5) Adhesion under test piece conditions A and C shall be GT-0 and there shall be no drop in adhesion after elapse of 4 weeks 5.4.3. Hardness (EDS-T-7948) (

19、1) Hardness under test piece Condition A shall be 80 100. 5.4.4. Cupping (EDS-T-7974) (1) Cupping under test piece Conditions A shall be more than 5.0mm and there shall be no drop in cupping after elapse of 4 weeks. (2) Cupping under test piece Conditions C shall be more than 4mm(But, there shall be

Bending (EDS-T-7912) (1) Conical corn di

21、ameter : 9.540.5X (2) Length: 212X (3) When tested under test piece Conditions A and C, there shall be no sign of surface defects, such as cracks and peeling-off. 5.4.6. Heat resistance (EDS-T-7917) When tested under test piece Conditions A at a temperature of 100 for 240 hours, adhesion shall be GT

22、-0 and no sign of film surface defects, such as blistering, peeling and discoloration etc. 5.4.7. Over baking (EDS-T-7919) (1) Baking condition : Exposure to 1602 hours after coating with EDS-M-8766. (2) There shall be no abnormalities in the film surface and adhesion shall be GT-0 after exposure at

23、 room temperature for 24 hours. 5.5. Requirements after exposure to room temperature for 72 hours 5.5.1. Salt spray resistance (EDS-T-7932) (1) Test condition : 403, 98%RH min. (2) After test under test piece Condition A and C for 480 hours, there shall be no surface changes, rusting area shall be l

24、ess than 2X and adhesion shall be GT-0. (3) After test under test piece Condition B for 144 hours, there shall be no surface changes, rusting area shall be less than 2X and adhesion shall be GT-0. 5.5.2. Humidity resistance (EDS-T-7951) (1) Humidity chamber : 403, 98%RH min. (2) After test under tes

25、t piece Condition A for 240 hours and subsequent exposure to room temperature for 24 hours, there shall be no changes on the surface as compared to the initial state and adhesion shall be GT-0. (3) After test under test piece Condition C for 240 hours and subsequent exposure to room temperature for

26、24 hours, there shall be no changes on the surface as compared to the initial state and adhesion shall be GT-1. 5.5.3. Anti-chipping (EDS-T-7945) (1) Gravel : JIS #7, 50g (2) Test temperature : Room temperature and cold temperature(-20) (3) After test under test piece Condition C, rating 8 or higher

27、 shall be ensured. 5.5.4. Impact-saline solution resistance (EDS-T-7738) (1) Gravel: JIS #7, 50g (2) After test under test piece Condition C, rating 2 or below shall be ensured. 28、OO Auto & Technology 6. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS 6.1. Sandability 6.1.1. Sanding method : Dry with sand paper #600, #800 & moisture sanding 6.1.2. Test method and criterion (1) Coat the 200300X of electro-deposition test piece as the specified film thickness base on relevant external primer surfacer,

29、 and dry it with normal conditions. (2) Sanding Method #600 dry sanding Normal Coating #800 dry sanding #600 moisture sanding Normal Coating #800 moisture sanding (3) After removing the foreign matters on the test piece, coat with top coating(black color) and dry it. (4) Criterion : No problems at s

30、anding, no difference in gloss between the sanded surface and normal surface after top coating and no noticeable sanding marks. 6.2. Circulation stability After storage inside the paint circulation system under the conditions identical to the line conditions for 6 weeks, there shall be no deformatio

31、n or marked increase in viscosity and good workability shall be provided. 6.3. Workability 6.3.1. Perform the comparative test with mass production color in principle. 6.3.2. Sagging limits (1) Perform the resistance impact onto the 300500X test piece coated with electro-deposition at 5cm intervals,

32、 with 1/2INCH500g of weight. (2) At this moment, mark the center of hole by impact with oiliness pen. (3) Remove the masking tape after application of relevant primer surfacer uniformly and set the test piece vertically for 5 minutes in order that the masking areas shall be to go down an underside,

33、and then dry it. (4) Apply the test piece with uniform extrusion volume of gun when the comparative tests. (5) Criterion : Measure the film thickness where the sagging of oiliness pen from a center of hole shall be 5cm. This point is called as the film thickness of sagging limits. 6.3.3. Pinhole lim

35、minutes. (2) Measure the film thickness of the pinhole portion after drying. 6.3.4. Over spray dust (1) Apply the relevant exterior primer surfacer to test piece, and perform the over spray dust of interior primer surfacer according to the line condition or equivalent. (2) Dry it after setting at ro

36、om temperature for 10 minutes after over spray dust. (3) The surface shall show no signs of cratering, loss of gloss or other surface defects after drying. 6.3.5. Cratering stability (1) Dilute paint with specified viscosity, and stir it with a stirrer for 4 hours at the room temperature. (2) The su

37、rface shall show no signs of cratering, when the top coat is applied after stirring. 6.3.6. Electrostatic painting performance (Exterior primer surfacer) When observed following electrostatic painting under the condition equivalent to the line condition, the surface shall show no signs of abnormalit

38、ies. 6.3.7. Compatibility with PVC sealer When applying the relevant primer surfacer to sealers, and examining the condition of adhesion, the surface shall show no signs of defects and the adhesion shall be GT-0. 7. EFFECTIVE PERIOD Effective period of the paint shall be 6 months from the date of ma
