PURPOSE This test standard shall be used to determine the relative proportions of vegetable fibers and rubber in rubberized uphol
、stery materials. 2. DEFINITION The proportions of vegetable fibers and rubber: Determined by this test method shall be defined as the relative quantities of each constituent present in the test material expressed as a percentage by weight. 3. TEST PIECES AND NUMBER OF TEST PIECES 3.1. From the avail
、able material, test pieces weighing approx 3g and covering the entire thickness of the material shall be taken. For formed parts, where the relevant drawing stipulates a “test area“, the test pieces shall be taken from this area. 3.2. For initial sample approval and arbitration purposes at least two
、 test pieces, and for routine quality control at least one test piece shall be tested. 4. CONDITIONING For initial sample approval, arbitration purposes and for routine quality control conditioning shall be carried out for at least 2hours at a temperature of +1202.5K. The test piece shall be removed
、 from the oven and allowed to cool to +235K in a closed desiccator for at least 1 hour. 5. APPARATUS 5.1. Heating oven, adjustable, capable of maintaining +1202.5K. 5.2. Cutting dies or shears for preparation of the test pieces. 5.3. Conical flask with condenser attachment, min capacity 300 ml. 5.4.
、 Balance with accuracy of 0.01g. 5.5. Heating plate or Bunsen burner. 5.6. Suitable thermometer for the required temperatures. 5.7. Desiccator with silica gel. 5.8. PROCEDURE The test shall be performed immediately after conditioning at a temperature of +235K. 7.1. The test piece shall be accurately weighed to
、within 0.01g. 7.2. The test piece shall be placed in the conical flask along with 100 ml of 1,2 dichlorobenzene, and the condenser attachment fitted. The apparatus shall be placed in the fume cupboard and the solvent heated to +170 to +180 and the heating continued for approx 5 hours(during which ti
、me the rubber should dissolve). 7.3. If the rubber has not completely dissolved after the above treatment, the heating shall be continued for a further period of approx. 5 hours in 1,2-dichlorobenzene. 7.4. The residue (vegetable fibers) shall be separated from the liquid using the sieve and rinsed
、with 1,2 dichlorobenzene.( cleaning 2-3 times ) 7.5. The residue shall be air dried for at least 24hours at a room temperature in the fume cupboard and subsequently re-conditioned according to clause 4. 7.6. Any remaining rubber residue adhering to the residue (fibers) shall be separated by hand. 7.
、7. The residue shall be accurately weighed to within 0.01g. Note: If the test material contains any animal hairs, these shall be extracted using boiling 5% sodium hydroxide solution (as per EDS-T-7653) after clause 7.1 and before clause 7.2 above. 8. EVALUATION 8.1. Proportion of vegetable fibers (f
、or all materials) V = . 8.2. Proportion of rubber (for materials without animal hair) R = . 8.3. Proportion of rubber (for materials with animal hair) R = . EXPRESSION OF RESULTS With reference to this test method, the proportion of vegetable fibers and rubber shall be expressed as a ratio V : R, or A : V : R with the values of A, V and R rounded to the nearest whole number (individual value and arithmetic average). 10. CODING SYSTEM On draw
、ings, material specifications etc., the proportions of vegetable fibers and rubber in upholstery materials shall be indicated as follows: Proportion of vegetable fibers to rubber to EDS-T-7682 - 23:77 Requirement Test method Designation 11. DEVIATIONS Deviations from the conditions of this test meth
