2、is standard covers the requirements for wrought magnesium alloy extruded profiles for unexposed structural, body and closure panel applications. Additional requirements or agreements shall be specified by each region (e.g., General Motors North America (GMNA), General Motors Europe (GME), General Mo

3、tors Latin America, Africa and Middle East (GMLAAM), General Motors Asia Pacific (GMAP), etc.) Note: Nothing in this standard supercedes applicable laws and regulations. Note: In the event of conflict between the English and domestic language, the English language shall take precedence. 1.1 Material

4、 Description. The material designation is defined by the GMW base material specification number, material designation, material product type, magnesium alloy designation, minimum as-received yield strength and surface quality. The corrosion behavior of this magnesium alloy offers the usability for i

5、nterior applications except the floor area in uncoated condition. Additional the material has a good creep resistance behavior. 1.1.1 Extruded profiles may be supplied in straight as-extruded lengths. 1.1.2 Sheets may be supplied made out from an extruded round tube which is laser cut, opened and fl

6、atted. 1.2 Symbols. Not applicable. 1.3 Typical Applications. 8、nts The following section defines specific requirements for material on delivery, processing, performance and other stages during life cycle. Deviations required for individual GM business units are listed in Deviations at the end of this document. Parts supplied according to this specification shal

9、l undergo successful trials that fully meet end product requirements. In the event of any changes to the manufacturing process to which the part was successfully validated, the appropriate engineering group must be notified and the part must be revalidated with the new process. 3.1 Requirements on T

The following section defines specific requirements for material on delivery, processing, performance and other stages during life cycle. 3.2.1 Chemical Requirements. 3.2.1.1 Base Metal. Base metal composition shall conform to the require

12、ments of Table 1. Additional demands and restrictions may be imposed by regional Materials Engineering organizations depending upon the application. The base metal chemical composition shall be determined per ASTM E35, ASTM E954. In cases of dispute, the determining method shall be ASTM E35. Table 1

Products coated with a designated lubricant (e.g., pre-lube) shall comply with GMW16546. If necessary a suitable transportation protection has

Lubricants, transportation protections etc., applied to the material by the magnesium supplier and/or magnesium parts manufacturer must be removable in the purchasers phosphate cleaner system. Lubricants and/or other transportation protections must be approved by the regional busines

15、s unit. 3.2.2 Mechanical Requirements. 3.2.2.1 Tensile Mechanical Property Requirements. The magnesium products applied to this specification shall meet the mechanical properties as specified in Table 2. The 0.2% Offset Yield Strength, Ultimate Tensile Strength and Percent Total Elongation shall be

16、determined in the longitudinal direction per GMW3335. For production ma

17、terial, required mechanical properties shall be guaranteed for a minimum of 3 months after delivery to a GM Manufacturing Plant. For material qualification, required mechanical properties shall be guaranteed for a minimum of 6 months. 3.2.3 Physical Requirements. 3.2.3.1 Material Thickness and Toler

18、ance. The sheet thickness tolerance requirements listed in Table 3 shall be guaranteed. 19、0 mm from an edge. Tolerances are for sheets up to 3800 mm in width. Thickness and thickness tolerances shall be rounded to the nearest 0.01 mm (two decimal places). Electronic math file of engineering part drawing information supersedes any information in Table 3. For extruded parts unless otherwis

20、e specified the dimensions and dimension tolerances shall conform to the specification on drawing. Extruded profiles and sheets supplied to this specification shall be free of surface imperfections which will have detrimental effects to the crash

22、 and durability part behavior. Surface imperfections include, but are not limited to blisters, corrosion pits, blowholes, orange peel, stretcher jaw marks and speed tears. Surface imperfections that are cosmetic and do not affect the structural integrity may be acceptable provided that boundary samp

23、les are provided to GM Materials Engineering to document location and severity. Suppliers may be required to prove cosmetic imperfections do not compromise structural integrity. Boundary samples shall be established on a part number by part number basis. For unexposed (U) surface, defects such as po

24、res, slight indentations, small marks, minor scratches, and slight coloring, which do not affect formability or the application of surface coatings, are allowed. 3.2.4.2 Surface Preparation. When paint application is required, extrudes profiles and sheets supplied to this specification shall meet su

25、rface preparation requirements of GMNA specification 9984001 and/or GME Manufacturing Engineering Lastenheft requirements. Processing compounds (lubricants, cutting fluids, marking inks, etc.) and corrosion preventative compounds applied to extruded profiles shall be approved by GM Paint Engineering

26、. 3.2.5 Microstructure Requirements. 3.2.5.1 Grain Size. The delta grain size shall be No. 8 and finer when tested to ASTM E112 and shall be consistent throughout the thickness of the sheet. The fine inter-crystalline segregations shall be uniformly distributed. 3.2.5.2 Inclusions. Extruded profiles

27、 and sheets supplied to this specification shall be free of inclusions which will have detrimental effects to the crash and durability part behavior. 3.3 Product Integrity. 3.3.1 Internal Integrity. Extruded profiles supplied according the requirements of this specification shall be free of internal

28、 imperfections that may compromise the structural integrity. Internal imperfections include, but are not limited to laminations, unhealed billet cracks, porosity and stringer inclusions. Supplier process control plan shall show manufacturing procedures used to assure extruded profile internal integr

29、ity. 3.3.2 Back End Conditions. Extrudes profiles supplied according the requirements of this specification shall free of oxides and inclusions commonly known as “Back End Condition”. Suppliers shall process billets such that butt ends are sheared in such a way to avoid the presence of this conditio

30、n in extruded profiles. 3.4 Processing Requirements. 3.4.1 Compatibility with Phosphate and Paint Systems. For painted applications, the surface shall be capable of achieving a high quality zinc phosphate conversion coating using materials and processing information specified in GMW3011. The phospha

31、te layer shall be homogeneous, continuous, and cover 100% of the surface. 3.4.2 Adhesive Compatibility. When applicable, extruded profiles approved to this specification shall meet the adhesive compatibility requirements of GMW16549. Depending on application change of test requirements may be agreed

32、 with the responsible material engineer. 3.4.3 Joining. When applicable, extruded profiles supplied to this specification shall be suitable for welding and mechanical clinching by standard methods. Joining elements such as nut, bolt, rivet must be zinc plated or made of aluminum. Zn: 8 m minimum, th

33、ick-film-passivation and post treatment (recommended). Mating Surface: Zinc plated, aluminum or painted. 4 Manufacturing Process Not applicable. 5 Rules and Regulations 5.1 Legal Regulations. All materials must satisfy applicable laws, rules, regulations and recommendations valid in the country of u

34、sage. 5.2 Language. In the event of conflict between the English and domestic language, the English language shall take precedence. Samples of components or materials released to a GM material specification shall be tested for conformity with the requirements of this m

36、aterial specification and approved by the responsible Engineering department prior to commencement of delivery of bulk supplies. A new approval must be received for any changes, e.g., properties, manufacturing process, location of manufacture, etc. If not otherwise agreed, all testing and documentat

37、ion normally required for initial release must be completed. It is the responsibility of the supplier to inform the customer in a timely manner, without solicitation, and to include documentation of all modifications of materials and/or processes and to apply for a new release. If not otherwise agre

38、ed, all release tests shall be repeated and documented by the supplier prior to commencement of delivery of non-conforming bulk supplies. In individual cases, a shorter test can be agreed to between the responsible Engineering department and the supplier. 5.4 Material Safety Data Sheets/Safety Data

39、Sheets (MSDS/SDS). For new product submissions, or when a change in chemical composition of an existing product has occurred, a complete copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet/Safety Data Sheet must be submitted in compliance with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chem

40、icals (GHS) requirements or other country-specific MSDS/SDS requirements. In addition, product MSDS/SDS submissions must be in compliance with specific country General Motors TMC003 Material Safety Data Sheet/Safety Data Sheet guidance documents where available. 5.5 All materials supplied to this st

41、andard must comply with the requirements of GMW3059, Restricted and Reportable Substances for Parts. 5.6 Initial Source Approval. No shipments shall be made by any supplier until representative initial production samples have been approved by the appropriate Materials Engineering department(s) as me

42、eting the requirements of this specification. No shipments shall be made by any supplier until Level 1 approval has been obtained per GMW15420. Production material shall not be shipped until Level 2 approval been obtained per GMW15420. 5.7 Quality Requirements. The supplier shall have quality proces

43、s control procedures compliant with ISO TS16949 or as required by GM Global Purchasing and Supply Chain (GPSC) demonstrating that the product will conform to all specification requirements. The data required to be submitted for this specification for each shipment will be determined by the regional

44、manufacturing location. 6 Approved Sources Materials supplied to this specification must be approved by General Motors. The appropriate GM Materials Engineering department(s) must confirm material as meeting the requirements of this specification. Any test data sheets of material submitted to Genera

45、l Motors for such confirmation (e.g., during Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) under this material specification must list all properties and must apply corresponding test methods of this material specification. 7 Notes 7.1 Glossary.
