2、and regulations.Note: In the event of conflict between the English and domestic language, the English language shall takeprecedence.1.1 Purpose. This standard describes a daily quality procedure for running a 90 degrees peel test between thetape and the component. The quality of the bond between the

3、 tape, and the component can be determined bypeel strength, and the failure mode observed. Tape attached components can include body side moldings,emblems, nameplates, body claddings, appliqus, door sill plates, fascia trim strip, wheel flares, roof ditchmoldings, and other trim applications.1.2 For

This specification applies only to substrates, adhesion promoters, and tapesthat have been qualified and approved to the appropriate GM specifications.2 ReferencesNote: Only the latest approved standards are applicable unless othe

9、2 of 54 Procedure4.1 Preparation. All samples are to be conditioned at GMW3221, Code A prior to each test unless otherwisespecified.4.2 Conditions.4.2.1 Environmental Conditions. Not applicable.4.2.2 Test Conditions. Deviations from the requirements of this standard shall have been agreed upon. Such

10、requirements shall be specified on component drawings, test certificates, reports, etc.4.3 Instructions.4.3.1 Prepare moldings or emblems as follows:4.3.1.1 Moldings. Cut moldings to 150 mm long sections.4.3.1.2 Emblems. Use emblems and other smaller parts as complete assembly. Do not cut.4.3.2 Test

11、 Procedure. Ninety degree peel adhesion of tape to trim part.4.3.2.1 Moldings and Other Larger Parts.4.3.2.1.1 Cut 150 mm long sections of the trim parts to be tested.4.3.2.1.2 Cover 25 mm at the end of the trim with masking tape.4.3.2.1.3 Using the inside edge of the masking tape as a guide, cut th

12、rough the liner and tape down to thetaping surface. Avoid cutting into the trim.4.3.2.1.4 Remove the 125 mm exposed portion of liner.4.3.2.1.5 Laminate a 200 mm long piece of anodized aluminum foil starting at the unmasked end. The foil thatis not in contact with the tape should form a tab extending

13、 approximately 75 mm beyond the razor cut line. SeeFigure 1.4.3.2.1.6 Roll two times with the 6.8 kg roller in the same direction.4.3.3 Emblems and Other Smaller Parts.4.3.3.1 Remove the liner.4.3.3.2 Laminate a piece of anodized aluminum foil. The foil should be long enough to form a tab extendinga

14、pproximately 75 mm beyond the edge of the part.4.3.3.3 Roll two times with the 6.8 kg roller in the same direction.4.3.4 Allow trim sections to dwell at the following conditions:a. 5 minutes at room temperature (RT).b. 24 h room temperature.c. 1 h at 80 C.d. 1.5 h at -30 C.4.3.5 Place the trim secti

15、on (for moldings and other parts longer than 125 mm) into the 90 peel fixture in thelower jaw of an Instron or equivalent. The fixture should securely hold the section and maintain a 90 degreesangle during testing. See Figure 2.4.3.6 Insert the aluminum foil tab in the upper jaw.4.3.7 Initiate the u

16、pper jaw separation at a rate of 300 mm per minute. Peel the entire length of tape. Peelsections from 4.3.4 (a) and (b) at RT, from (c) at 80 C and RT, and from (d) at -30 C.4.3.8 Record the average peel value for the middle 100 mm and the mode of failure.4.3.9 Typically the mode of failure is cohes

17、ive failure (foam split), although some types of tape will not exhibitthis failure mode. Mixed failure modes are frequently observed (cohesive failure and adhesive failure). Certaintape/adhesion promoter/substrate combinations may not exhibit evidence of cohesive failure (foam split) untilafter oven

18、 aging or environmental cycling.4.3.10 Smaller parts will require modifications to the procedure. They may not fit into the 90 degrees peelfixture and may have to be tested using a hand held force gage.4.3.11 For each part/adhesion promoter/tape combination, establish a minimum peel strength(average

19、 peelstrength, or peak load) and a typical failure mode.
