SCOPE The material described in this specification is a high softening point hot melt adhesive/sealer suitable for foaming to produce a closed cell thermopl
3、astic product to be used as a seal against air, dust and water. 1.1 The material may also be used for certain applications as a silencer or flexible material for covering gaps, openings and other non-sealing type applications. The material can be used for non-foaming applications as well. 1.2 The ma
4、terial must not stain, attack, or have any other objectionable effect on adjacent surfaces. 1.3 This material is foamed through the introduction of an inert gas, such as nitrogen or carbon dioxide to a specific density reduction. The material is allowed to cool with the gas bubbles intact and a clos
5、ed cell foam product is formed. Density reduction denotes the percentage of inert gas content. 1.4 For Heating, Ventilation and Air-conditioning (HVAC) applications, this specification should be used in conjunction with the Chemical Specification that pertains to the subject material. 1.5 Materials

REQUIREMENTS Unless otherwise specified, all tests shall be performed at 23 2 C and 50 5% RH. 3.1 Compression Load Deflection By varying the per cent density reduction, the material shall be capable of achieving the compressi
11、on load deflection value in kilo Pascals, indicated on the Engineering drawing. 3.1.1 Values shall be determined at 50% compression (no preflex) after 1 minute at a compression rate of 50 mm/minute. Samples shall be 50 x 50 mm with a minimum thickness of 3.2 mm. Samples shall be dusted with talc to

REQUIREMENTS (continued) 3.2 Staining - (HN 0096 Method B) There shall be no indication of migratory staining wh
14、en the material is foamed onto the representative substrate and exposed 7 days. 3.3 Sealability Glass plates shall be used for material evaluation. Representative substrates shall be used to evaluate the material performance in specific applications. There shall be no objectionable shrinkage of the
15、material or general deterioration of the material or adjacent substrates causing loss of seal or other function after exposure to the appropriate environment. There shall be no corrosion of the adjacent substrates due to the material. 3.3.1 Test procedure The material when foamed to the required den
16、sity reduction for the application, must provide a complete barrier to the passage of water when compressed 30%. Samples are compressed in the form of a parabola or trough between two plates. Compression shall be controlled at 30% through the use of spacers and clamps. The assembly shall be exposed
17、to the appropriate environment as specified in section 3.3.6.1 thru 3.3.6.3. After environmental exposure, distilled water shall be added between the plates until the depth above the lowest point of the parabola is 50 mm. 3.3.2 As-Received Sealability Prepare samples as described in section 3.3.1 an
18、d condition samples 24h at 23 2oC prior to addition of distilled water. The material must provide a complete water seal for a minimum of 1 h. 20、continued) 3.3 Sealability (continued) 3.3.3 Heat Aged Sealability Samples prepared as described in section 3.3.1 shall be exposed for 3 weeks at 93 2 C for exterior and interior applications (including passenger compartment HVAC applications) and at 121 2C for all underhood applications. The sample
21、 assemblies shall be conditioned a minimum of 16 h at 23 2oC after heat ageing and prior to addition of distilled water. The material must provide a complete water seal for a minimum of 1 h. 3.3.4 High Temperature Sealability This test is to simulate exposure in a paint repair oven and to ensure the
22、 seal-ability of the foamed material through elevated temperatures. 3.3.4.1 Samples prepared as described in section 3.3.1 shall be exposed for 20 minutes at 149 2 C. The sample assemblies shall be conditioned to a minimum of 16 h at 23 2 C after heat ageing and prior to addition of distilled water.
23、 The material must provide a complete water seal for a minimum of 1 h. 3.3.5 Low Temperature Sealability Samples prepared as described in 3.3.1 shall be exposed for 50 h at -10 2 C prior to addition of distilled water. There shall be no deterioration or breakage of the material. There shall be no ro
24、om temperature conditioning of the assembly prior to addition of the distilled water. Distilled water a minimum of temperature of 23 2 C shall be added to the cold assembly to a depth of 50 mm above the lowest point of the parabola. 36、m of a parabola or trough. After cooling, the material is compressed 30% between the original glass plate and a second glass plate. Compression shall be controlled at 30% through the use of spacers and C clamps. The assembly is allowed to equilibrate for 24 h. The solvent shall be added between the
37、plates until the depth above the lowest point of the parabola is 50 mm. (A separate assembly shall be used for each solvent evaluated). The material must provide a complete seal for a minimum of 1 h. 3.4.3.1 Following the 1 hour dwell, any unevaporated solvent shall be emptied from the assembly and
38、distilled water immediately added between the plates until the depth above the lowest point of the parabola is 50 mm. The material must provide a complete water seal for a minimum of 1 h. 3.5 Environmental Cycle Parts shall exhibit no objectionable shrinkage or general deterioration of the material
39、or adjacent substrates causing loss of seal or other function. There shall be no adhesion loss or, where applicable, corrosion of the adjacent substrates due to the material following the appropriate environment exposure, as described in section 3.3.6.1 thru section 3.3.6.3. 42、ure conditioned mandrel. 3.6.1 Test Procedure Condition samples and mandrel for 4 h at 10 2 C. The mandrel diameter shall be equal to four times the sample thickness. While at Temperature, quickly flex the sample 180 degrees around the temperature conditioned mandrel. 3.7 Peel Adhesion (PSTC #5) The
43、 peel adhesion of the foamed material shall be no less than 95 N/m, unless otherwise indicated on the Engineering drawing. 3.7.1 Test procedure Peel adhesion is determined by Pressure Sensitive Adhesive Council Method No.5. (PSTC #5) with the following adaptations. The material is foamed at the dens
44、ity reduction required for the application onto the test panel representing design intent. Prior to testing, a tape backing having the same dimensions as the foamed material is placed onto the foamed sample to minimise elongation. Using a PSTC 20.0 N rubber covered roller, the tape-backed foam mater
45、ial is rolled once in each lengthwise direction. The tape-backed foam material is then peeled at a rate of 300 mm/minute, maintaining a 90 degree angle of peel. 47、c 3. REQUIREMENTS (continued) 3.8 Sag Test This test is to simulate exposure in a paint repair oven to ensure the resistance of foamed material to sagging at elevated temperatures. There shall be no more than 1 mm sag or flow of the material from its original position following exposure. 3.8.1 Test
48、Procedure A 6.5 mm wide bead of material is foamed at the density reduction required for the application onto ELPO primed metal and to a representative production substrate. Both ends of the bead are marked on the ELPO primed metal and the production substrate. The samples are placed vertically in a
49、n air-circulating oven and exposed 20 minutes at 149 2 C. The 20 minute exposure period will begin after the oven has equilibrated back to 149 2 C. 3.9 Odour (SAE J1351) The odour rating shall be 2 or lower. 3.9.1 HVAC Applications Only The material shall exhibit no objectionable odour as received or following 1 hour and 100 h exposure to 93 2 C for interior applications and 121 2 C for underhood applications in a st
