5、D STRIP 1.0 SCOPEPart III of this specification covers the Companys requirements for organic coated steel sheet and strip products. 2.0 INTRODUCTIONThis specification covers the requirements for organic coated steel sheet and strip products, and describes a system for specifying these products on en

6、gineering drawings. Organic coatings are designated by GRADE for each type of coating. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the CEMS B-50 specification. 3.0 CONTENTS PAGE INTR

MS-D-13 NAVISTAR CEMS B-50 NAVISTAR TMS-9516 5.0 CLASSIFICATION Organic coatings are classified by Grade. Organic coatings will be identified according to Grades as shown in Ta

12、ble I for all Navistar products. 13、TS 6.1 Base Metal Properties of the base sheet steel furnished shall conform to limits established for the Grade, Type, and quality of the sheet or strip specified on the Engineering drawing and/or purchase order, as described in CEMS A-6, Part I. 6.2 Base Metal Metallic Coated If the pre-painted sh

14、eet is also required to have a metallic coating (e.g., galvanized), the coated sheet will be required to meet the applicable requirements of CEMS A-6, Part II. 6.3 Organic Coating Class And Requirements 6.3.1 Weldable pre-prime coating 6.3.1.1 Grade 1PPW This is a pre-painted sheet steel product wit

15、h a weldable primer coated onto the exposed surface of the sheet. A wash coat or backer coat is applied to the unexposed side of the sheet to provide minimal corrosion protection in storage and handling and lubrication during roll forming. 6.3.1.1.1 Dry Film Performance Requirement Weldable PrimerTh

16、e weldable primer consists of an organic coating meeting the dry film performance requirements of the Class II finish as per TMS-9009, except that min dry film thickness and min gloss is not required. 6.3.1.1.2 Dry Film Performance Requirement Wash CoatThe wash coat consists of a thin organic coatin

17、g meeting the dry film performance requirements of the Class IV finish as per TMS-9009, except that min dry film thickness and min gloss is not required. 20、emblies. The weldable primer must be compatible with all plant welding processes in use at the receiving manufacturing plant. 6.3.1.1.4 Spot Prime Requirement Spot welds on the weldable primer coated sheet steel should be spot primed in order to enhance corrosion resistance, if the full prime is not

21、 going to be applied. 6.3.1.2 Grade 2PPW This is a pre-painted sheet steel product with a weldable primer coated onto both sides of the sheet. 6.3.1.2.1 Dry Film Performance Requirement Weldable PrimerThe weldable primer consists of an organic coating meeting the dry film performance requirements of

22、 the Class II finish as per TMS-9009, except that min dry film thickness and min gloss is not required. 6.3.1.2.2 WeldabilityParts fabricated with the weldable primer coated sheet steel will meet all quality and performance requirements described in TMS-9516 for spot welded assemblies. The weldable

23、primer must be compatible with all plant welding processes in use at the receiving manufacturing plant. 6.3.1.2.3 Spot Prime Requirement Spot welds on the weldable primer coated sheet steel should be spot primed in order to enhance corrosion resistance, if the full prime is not going to be applied.

26、 Requirement Wash CoatThe wash coat consists of a thin organic coating meeting the dry film performance requirements of the Class IV finish as per TMS-9009, except that min dry film thickness is not required. 6.3.3 Grade 2PPX This is a pre-painted sheet steel product with a corrosion resistant prime

27、r coated onto both the exposed and the unexposed surfaces of the sheet. This product offers optimal corrosion resistance in severe service. 6.3.3.1 Dry Film Performance Requirement PrimerThe primer consists of an organic coating on both the top and bottom surfaces of the steel sheet. This primer wil

28、l meet the dry film performance requirements (both sides) of the Grade 56 primer as per CEMS G-5, Part V, Grade 56, except that min dry film thickness and min gloss is not required. 31、 sheet. A wash coat or backer coat is applied to the unexposed side of the sheet to provide minimal corrosion protection in storage and handling and lubrication during roll forming. 6.3.4.1 Dry Film Performance Requirement Primer and TopcoatThe primer and topcoat consist of two separate organic coat

32、ings. The combined coatings will meet the dry film performance requirements of the Class I finish as per TMS-9009, except min dry film thickness is not required. 6.3.4.2 Exposed Surface Protection A strippable-waxed coating or plastic film to prevent damage to the finished surface during normal hand

33、ling and storage procedures and during subsequent forming and fabricating or painting operations will be applied to protect the exposed surface. The protective coating/film must be readily removable, and removal of the film must have no detrimental effect upon the appearance of the exposed surface.

34、6.3.5 Grade 2P&TC This is a pre-painted sheet steel product with a corrosion resistant primer applied to both sides of the sheet and a topcoat coated onto the exposed surface of the sheet. 6.3.5.1 Dry Film Performance Requirement PrimerThe primer consists of an organic coating on the bottom or unexp

35、osed surface of the steel sheet. This primer will meet the dry film performance requirements of the Grade 56 primer (except film thickness) as per CEMS G-5, Part V, Grade 56. 6.3.5.2 Dry Film Performance Requirement Primer and TopcoatThe primer and topcoat consist of two separate organic coatings. T

36、he combined coatings will meet the dry film performance requirements of the Class I finish (except min film thickness) as per TMS-9009. 6.3.5.3 Exposed Surface Protection A strippable-waxed coating or plastic film to prevent damage to the finished surface during normal handling and storage procedure

38、d strip products will be free from injurious defects such as blisters and bare spots detrimental to fabrication and/or function of the part. The supplier should be able to provide certification that product supplied to this specification meets the applicable requirements defined in this specificatio

39、n. The supplier should be capable of providing statistical evidence that the material supplied has been manufactured within process control limits established by the supplier for this product and that the process is capable of meeting all requirements of this specification. Suppliers are required to

42、equirements All suppliers to NAVISTAR are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. NAVISTAR will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers mu

43、st maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to their Corporate Buyer upon request. 8.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples tha

44、t were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify Materials Engineering a

45、t TDTC and Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with t

46、he request for change. 8.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform and report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capa

47、ble of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the plant metallurgist and/or the quality control manager of the using Navistar plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. 9.0 DESIGNATION ON DRAWINGS AND PURCHASE ORDERS 9.1 Designation on Drawings Mat

48、erial designations will consist of the steel grade (per CEMS A-6, Part I), the metallic coating designation (per CEMS A-6, Part II) as applicable, and organic coating Grade designation as per this specification. Any other special requirements necessary to ensure Engineering performance will be included on the Engineering drawing. Examples: Steel, Grade 1C, Grade
