4、International Truck and Engine Corporation” with “Navistar, Inc.” per corporate directive. 1.0 SCOPE This method covers a test procedure for the determination of the foaming characteristics of engine cooling system fluids. 2.0 APPARATUS Graduate cylinder, air-inlet tube, gas diffuser stone and other

5、 apparatus per ASTM D 892. 3.0 PROCEDURE Perform the method of determination of foaming characteristics per ASTM D 892 with the following modifications: 3.1 Antifreeze, Single Phase, Ethylene Glycol Base 3.1.1 Use the following test fluid and mix in accordance with ASTM D 1176, Section 5.3., 50 perc

6、ent solution of antifreeze in distilled water. 3.1.2 Operate with the solution at a temperature of 200 3F (93 2C) with an air volume of 4 L/min. 3.2 Other Engine Cooling System Fluids 3.2.1 Use mixtures and test conditions as required in the appropriate specification. 4.0 REPORT 4.1 Volume of foam a

7、s the difference in height of foam at the end of the 5 minute blowing period, before the air is turned off, from height of liquid at start of test in milliliters. 4.2 The time for the foam to collapse after the air is turned off, “break time”, in seconds. “Break time” is defined as the time for foam to collapse to the first appearance of an “eye” on the surface of the solution.
