5、ml 2.2 Glass rod, 0.25 inch (6mm) diameter 2.3 110 volt variable transformer, Powerstat, Type 116 or equivalent 2.4 Ammeter, capable of measuring 2.0 and 7.0 0.2A 2.5 Balance with a sensitivity of 0.1 mg 3.0 MATERIAL 3.1 New, clean “Nichrome” wire 80 percent nickel, 20 percent chromium, 26 gage 0.01
6、59 inch (0.404 mm) 10 inches (250 mm) long 3.2 Test fluids: 3.2.a NAVISTAR CEMS B-1, Antifreeze: 50 percent solution of antifreeze in distilled water mixed in accordance with ASTM D 1176, Section 5.3. 3.2.b Cooling system fluid mixtures as required in the appropriate specification. 3.3 Lintless clot
7、h or soft tissue paper (Kleenex or equivalent). 3.4 Isopropanol, reagent grade. 4.0 PROCEDURE 4.1 Coil the wire around the rod, forming 8 or 9 turns with an overall length of approximately 1.5 inches (38mm). 4.2 Clean the coil by immersing in warm isopropanol and allow to air dry. 10、in 0.5 inch (13 mm) of the bottom of the beaker containing 250 ml of the appropriate test fluid mixture. 4.4 Pass an electric current of 7.0 0.2 A through the coil for a period of 10 minutes then remove the wire coil from the solution. 4.5 Remove the excess fluid by gently shaking or blotting. 4.6 D
11、ry the coil in air with 2 amperes current applied (suggested time is less than 1 minute) CAUTION: Use extreme care not to “over dry” the coil as this will cause flaking. 4.7 Reweigh the coil to the nearest 0.1 mg. 5.0 REPORT Report the change in weight in milligrams for each fluid tested.
