4、hange Notice: Replaced “International Truck and Engine Corporation” with “Navistar, Inc.” per corporate directive. 1.0 SCOPE This is a method for evaluating the ability of a dry film of paint to adhere to a cast surface without cracking. 2.0 APPARATUS 2.1 Test block of dimensions shown in Figure on

5、page 2 2.2 No. 4 Ford Cup per ASTM D 1200 2.3 Micrometer or other accurate thickness gage capable of measuring the specified thickness + 0.005 mm (+ 0.2 mils) 2.4 Metal straight edge 3.0 MATERIAL An appropriate reducer 4.0 PROCEDURE 4.1 Using an appropriate reducer, adjust approximately 100 millilit

6、ers of paint which has been prepared for testing according to the steps outlined in CEMS G-5, Part I, Section B, under “Sampling Procedure”, to a viscosity of 25 + 1 seconds as measured with a No. 4 Ford Cup per ASTM D 1200. 4.2 Pour a sufficient quantity of this adjusted paint on the upper middle a

7、rea of the test block such that the adjusted paint flows over the edge of the top gutter. 4.3 Using a metal straight edge, draw the excess adjusted paint down the inclined surface and into the bottom gutter 4.4 Place the block on a level table and allow the paint to dry for 24 hours in still air at

8、21 to 27C (70 to 80 F). 4.5 Using the micrometer or other accurate thickness gage, define the area of the tapered surface on which the dry film thickness of the paint is less than the minimum specified on the appropriate grade sheet. AUGUST 2009 Page 2 of 2 4.6 Examine the area of the tapered surface on which the dry film thickness of the paint is minimum specified or greater with the unaided eye; any evidence of cratering

11、 or cracking in the dry film or evidence of the dry film breaking away from the block will constitute a failure. 5.0 REPORT Report whether the paint passes or fails this test. Material: Gray Iron, G3000 per SAE J31 (latest issue), Grade 30-S per CEMS E-6 Tolerances: All dimensions are + 0.25 mm (+ 0.010 inch).
