4、ce: Replaced “International Truck and Engine Corporation” with “Navistar, Inc.” per corporate directive. 1.0 SCOPE This is a method for evaluating the toughness of a dry film of paint. 2.0 APPARATUS 2.1 Recirculating oven capable of maintaining a temperature of 49 + 3C (120 + 5F). 2.2 Mandrel, 9.52

5、mm (0.375 inch) in diameter. 3.0 MATERIAL Bonderite CD-10 or Bonderite 958 zinc phosphated steel panel, 100 x 150 mm (4 x 6 inches), available from Advanced Coatings Technologies, 273 Industrial Drive, Hillsdale, Michigan 49242. 4.0 PROCEDURE 4.1 Prepare the appropriate quantity and type of panels f

6、or the grade of paint being tested according to the procedure specified in Test Method GT-13, Panel Preparation. For Grades -50, -53, and -53A, proceed up to but not including the step in which the primed and dried panels are sanded. 4.1.1 Two steel panels - Grades -29, -29HS, -29T, -29THS, -50, -55

7、, -55W, and -62 4.1.2 Four steel panels - Grades -53, -53A, and 54 For grades where four panels are prepared, two alternative drying procedures, an air dry and an oven dry, are specified. For these grades, two panels will be dried according to the air drying procedure and the remaining two panels wi

8、ll be dried according to the oven drying procedure. For grades where two panels are prepared, only one drying procedure is specified; for these grades, both panels will be dried according to this procedure. 4.2 Age the prepared panels for 72 hours in a recirculating oven at 49 + 3C (120 + 5F) remove

9、 and cool to 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 4.3 Bend each panel 180 degrees around a mandrel with a diameter of 9.5-mm (0.375-inch). The bend will be made such that the painted surface of the panel is put into tension. 4.4 Examine the paint film in the area of the bend with the unaided eye; any evidence of

10、chipping, flaking or cracking will constitute a failure. For those grades where two panels are prepared, both will pass. For those grades where four panels are prepared, both air-dried test panels and both oven dried test panels will pass. 5.0 REPORT Report whether the paint passes or fails this test.
