Change Notice: Replaced “International Truck and Engine Corporation” with “Navistar, Inc.” per corporate directive. 1.0 SCOPE This is a method for evaluating the ability of a dry film of paint to withstand degradation due to immersion in a xylene-mineral spirits solution. This test
5、 method supersedes former Xylene-Mineral Spirits Immersion Test in GT-7C, now deleted. 2.0 APPARATUS 2.1 Bath capable of maintaining a temperature of 21 to 27C (70 to 80F) 3.0 MATERIAL 3.1 Bonderite CD-10 or Bonderite 958 zinc phosphated steel panels, 100 x 150 mm (4 x 6 inches), available from Adva
6、nced Coatings Technologies, 273 Industrial Drive, Hillsdale, Michigan 49242. 3.2 Industrial grade xylene. 3.3 Mineral spirits per ASTM D 235. 3.4 Absorbent paper, Kleenex, Kimwipes or equivalent 4.0 PROCEDURE 4.1 Prepare the appropriate quantity of panels for the grade of paint being tested accordin
7、g to the procedure specified in Test Method GT-13, Panel Preparation. 4.1.1 Two panels - Grades -17, -17HS, -18, -19, -19HS, -32, -32HS, -32HS/Ur, -61, -62, -81HS, -81W, -82W, and -83W. 4.2 Age the prepared panels for 72 hours at 49 + 3C (120 + 5F). To prevent rusting, cover the unpainted surfaces r
8、emaining on each of the panels with a protective coating such as a primer or lacquer. 4.3 Prepare a solution of 15% industrial grade xylene and 85% mineral spirits; fill the bath and bring to a temperature of 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 4.4 Immerse the panels in this bath to a depth equivalent to two-thi
9、rds of the panel length for one hour. 4.5 At the conclusion of this immersion period, remove the panels from the bath and dry with absorbent paper. 4.6 Immediately examine the painted surface of each of the panels for evidence of blistering. 4.7 After examining the panels, age them for two hours in
10、still air at 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). 12、xamine the painted surface of each of the panels for evidence of color change. 5.0 REPORT Report whether the paint passes or fails this test. The paint will pass if each of the test panels exhibits a dry film which shows no blistering immediately after removal from the liquid and no appreciable colo
13、r change two hours after removal from the liquid. For those grades where two panels are prepared, both will pass. For those grades where four panels are prepared, both air dried and oven dried test panels will pass.
