Change Notice: Replaced “International Truck and Engine Corporation” with “Navistar, Inc.” per corporate directive. 1.0 SCOPE This is a method for evaluating the ability of a dry film of paint to withstand degradation upon prolonged exposure to high temperatures. . 2.0 APPARATUS 2.1 Muffle furnac

5、e capable of maintaining 538 + 6C (1000 + 10F) 2.2 Humidity cabinet per Federal Standard 141a, Method 6201 or QCT humidity cabinet available from the Q-Panel Company, 15610 Industrial Parkway, Cleveland, Ohio 44135. 3.0 MATERIAL 3.1 Aluminized sheet steel panels, 20 gage - 0.8 mm (.033 inches), 100

6、x 200 mm (4 x 8 inches) 3.2 Bonderite CD-10 or Bonderite 958 zinc phosphated steel panels, 100 x 200 mm (4 x 8 inches), available from Advanced Coatings Technologies, 273 Industrial Drive, Hillsdale, Michigan 49242. 4.0 PROCEDURE 4.1 Prepare three aluminized panels and three phosphated steel panels

7、according to Test Method GT-13, Method D. Dry these panels according to the oven drying procedure specified. 4.2 Place all panels in a muffle furnace at 204 + 6C (400 + 10F) and raise temperature to 538 + 6C (1000 + 10F) within 29 to 30 minutes. 4.3 Maintain the furnace temperature at 538 + 6C (1000

8、 + 10F) for 100 hours. 4.4 At the conclusion of the 100 hour period, gradually cool the panels (in not less than 40 minutes) to a temperature below 204 + 6C (400 + 10F) without removing the panels. 4.5 Remove the panels from the furnace and allow them to cool to 21 to 27C (70 to 80F). Turn off the f

9、urnace. 4.6 Examine each of the panels with the unaided eye for evidence of delamination. Evaluate the smoothness and the overall adhesion characteristics of the dry film of each of the panels. Examine the panels for evidence of color change from the original panels. 4.7 On each of the cooled panels

10、 from step (6), perform the humidity test outlined in Test Method GT-7E, commencing with the fourth step. 12、e 2 of 2 5.0 REPORT Report the following information: 5.1 Dry film appearance after 538C (1000F) exposure: The paint will pass if each of the test panels exhibits a dry film which is uniformly smooth and shows good adhesion, no color change from the original panels and no delamination. All panels wi

13、ll pass. 5.2 Dry film appearance after 538C (1000F) exposure and humidity test: The paint shall pass if each of the test panels exhibits a dry film which shows no evidence of rust or blistering.
