4、h parts. All details of finish are subject to purchasers approval. 2.2 All parts to be plated must be substantially free from flaws or defects detrimental to appearance or protective value of the coatings. Cleaning, pickling, and plating procedures will be such as to insure the desired quality of pl

RELIEF OF EMBRITTLEMENTAll steel parts having core hardness greater than 32 HRC or surface hardness of 35 HRC, as well as all highly stressed cold worked parts, subsequently electroplated with metal, are subject to embrittlement because of hydrogen absorption. It will be the responsibility

6、 of the supplier to see that such parts are baked within one hour of electroplating (but before any supplementary coatings are applied) to relieve hydrogen embrittlement. Generally, the bake operation will involve heating in an oven until the part core temperature (not oven temperature) reaches 205-

7、215C (400-420F), and holding at this temperature for 4 hours minimum. Hardened parts which have been tempered at less than 175C (350F) should be heated in an oven until the part core temperature reaches 150C (300F) and held for 8 hrs minimum. 5. BASIC REQUIREMENTSThe table below covers the minimum r

Whenever finishes other than those in the table are to be used or when specific requirements are necessary, they will be shown in the General Specifications of the standard commodity involved. Generally, it may be defined as those parts of the visible surface that can be touched with a 0.75 inch diameter sphere on the product; how

21、ever, all surfaces will be visibly coated. The test for thickness of coatings on threaded fasteners such as bolts, nuts, screws, etc. will be made on the shank or other smooth surfaces as nearly adjacent to the thread as practical. The maximum thickness of plating or coating on the threads will not

Base metal corrosion should not exceed one spot per square inch of significant surface and any such spots should be visible to the naked eye and will not exceed 0.06 inch in any dimension. JUNE 2008 Page 4 of 4 PASSIVATION OF STAINLESS STEEL 1. SCOPE This specification covers the basic requirements for passivation of co

26、rrosion resistant steels. It is based on the principle that the primary purpose of passivation is to ensure a clean surface, free from iron bearing contaminants which cause rusting and adversely effect appearance. 2. QUALITY Stainless steel fasteners will have a bright, satin-type finish. Fasteners

27、will be uniform in color, brightness, and luster; they will be clean and free from loose scale, burrs, grease, and oil. After all operations are performed, fasteners will be passivated on all surfaces; thereafter, no subsequent finishing operations will be permitted. Visual appearance will conform w

Inspect for etching or copper plating which would indicate ineffective or no passivation. No visual indication of etching and/or plating will be permitted

30、. 5. CORROSION RESISTANCE Passivated stainless steel parts will pass 24 hours of CASS (fog) testing according to ASTM B368 - date of latest issue. No ferrous (red) rust corrosion product will be permitted on significant surfaces: top, sides, underhead, and shank (threads will be excluded). A light b

31、lush or patina of rust will be permissible on significant surfaces if it can be removed by polishing. Use a soft cloth wetted with a dilute suspension of pumice or extra fine tripoli (250 mesh or finer), rinse in warm water, and dry with a soft cloth. No visible evidence of corrosion will be permitted on the polished surface.
