5、Hot Melt 1.0 APPLICATION This specification covers a weld through thermoplastic (hot melt) rust preventative suitable for hot, airless spray application on bare steel or galvanized steel in areas which cannot be adequately protected after build-up. This material shall be exposed to a temperature of
6、120C (250F) for 30 minutes after application to obtain maximum corrosion protection. This may be achieved during a paint bake cycle. 2.0 SCOPE This specification covers the general requirements, property and performance requirements, and approved sources and quality control. 2.1 Restricted Chemical
7、Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the CEMS B-50 specification. 3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Unless otherwise specified, the latest issue of all referenced standards shall apply. DECEMBER 2009 Page 2 of 4 4.0 REQUIREMENTS 4.1 General 4.1.1 Color Shall be black when applied in thickness of 0.20 mm (0.008 in) min. 4.1.2 Odor Sha
11、ll be inoffensive. 4.2 Property Requirements 4.2.1 Flash Point Test per ASTM D 92 Cleveland Open Cup. Shall be 190C (375F) min. 4.2.2 Application Temperature Shall be capable of spray application between 101-107C (215-225F). 4.3 Performance Requirements The following tests shall be performed on poli
12、shed steel panels suitably coated. Products approved for this application shall be capable of passing these tests with a min coating thickness of 0.18 mm (0.007 in). 4.3.1 High Temperature Flow Spray the compound on three degreased 4”x12” steel panels to give a dry-film thickness as stated above. Dr
13、aw parallel lines spaced 1/2 inch apart across the width of the surface. Suspend the panel in a vertical position in an oven at 175C (350F) for 30 minutes. There shall be no observable evidence of creep or flow. 4.3.2 Salt Spray Resistance Test per ASTM B 117. Scribed panels tested for 750 hours sha
14、ll exhibit no evidence of corrosion. Maximum allowable creepage shall be 3 mm (0.12 in). 4.3.3 Environmental Exposure Resistance Scribed panels subjected to 10 cycles, as indicated below, shall exhibit no blistering, peeling, lifting, blooming, sagging, cracking, or other surface defects. 4.3.3.1 En
15、vironmental Test Cycle 1. 16 hours humidity (100% RH) 2. 2 hours at -18C (0F) 3. 2 hours at room temperature 4. 4 hours at 70C (158F) 4.3.3.2 Wash-off Resistance Panels exposed to the listed solutions shall exhibit no evidence of removal or degradation of the coating. 4.3.3.2.1 Phosphate solution -
16、dip for 10 minutes in clean water at 65C (150F) followed by dipping in a phosphate solution at 65C (150F) for 10 minutes. 4.3.3.2.2 Hot water - pour 0.9 L (1 qt) water at 60C (140F) onto horizontal panel at rate of 0.9 L (1 qt) per15 seconds. 4.3.4 Welding Test When tested per SAE J243, Test ADS-3,
17、Method B, shall meet the tensile, flashing, electrode life, and electrode pickup as specified. 19、helf Life This product shall have a minimum shelf life of 120 days when stored at ambient conditions away from direct sources of sunlight and moisture. 5.0 QUALIFICATION Material and processes submitted for approval to this specification shall include the following: 5.1 A detailed, signed test repor
20、t documenting testing to this specification per TMS-9543. 5.2 Test coupons or photographs showing failure modes for each test. 5.3 The complete procedure used for preparing and curing materials for test, especially surface preparation and condition of the test specimens. 5.4 Questions regarding qual

22、ges, or defects harmful to product performance. 7.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 7.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to Navistar Inc. are required to be registered to ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. Navistar will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also ful
23、fill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to their Navistar Corporate Buyer upon request. 7.2 Approval Parts supplied aga
24、inst contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing pract
25、ices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify Materials Engineering, Truck Development and Technology Center and Navistar Purchasing and Logistics of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, te
26、st samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 7.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform and/or report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO
27、 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the plant metallurgist and/or the quality control manager of the using Navistar plant
28、 may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products.
