Recommendation X.630 (09/98) i FOREWORD ITU (International Telecommuni
9、cation Union) is the United Nations Specialized Agency in the field of telecommuni- cations. The IT Telecommunication Standardization Sector (IT-T) is a permanent organ of the IT. The IT-T is responsible for studying technical, operating and tariff questions and issuing Recommendations on them with
10、a view to standardizing telecommunications on a worldwide basis. The World Telecommunication Standardization Conference (WTSC), which meets every four years, establishes the topics for study by the ITU-T Study Groups which, in their turn, produce Recommendations on these topics. The approval of Reco
11、mmendations by the Members of the ITU-T is covered by the procedure laid down in WTSC Resolution No. 1. In some areas of information technology which fall within ITU-Ts purview, the necessary standards are prepared on a collaborative basis with IS0 and IEC. NOTE In this Recommendation, the expressio

23、ent protocol operations at the various layers identified by the Reference Model for Open Systems Interconnection specified in ITU-T Rec. X.200 I ISOAEC 7498-1. It provides an overview to the set of Recommendations and International Standards that have been produced to facilitate the interconnection
24、of information processing systems in an open environment where efficiency of communications is paramount. Such efficiencies include: a) reduction in the overhead needed to encode control information for use in bandwidth-limited environments (such as radio links) or processing-limited systems (such a
25、s switching systems); b) reduction in the delay to set up the association between the communicating applications so that data transfer can begin expeditiously; and c) reduction in the support of unneeded functionality in certain environments where the communications requirements of the applications
26、are limited. This Recommendation should be useful to designers of OS1 applications and implementors of OS1 protocols for a variety of purposes which include serving as a refinement of the understanding of OSI, and extending the usefulness and applicability of these efficient OS1 protocols to other a
