7、ITU-T Y.1910 IPTV functional architecture Summary Recommendation ITU-T Y.1910 describes the IPTV functional architecture intended to support IPTV services based on the IPTV service requirements and definitions. Starting from a basic description of IPTV roles and services, a high level IPTV functiona

8、l model is outlined. This model is then developed into a set of functional architectures which support NGN and non-NGN transport networks, as well as operation modes with or without IMS. ITU-T Y.1910 (09/2008) FOREWORD The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) is the United Nations specialized agency in the field of telecommunications, information and communication technologies (ICTs). The ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector

10、(ITU-T) is a permanent organ of ITU. ITU-T is responsible for studying technical, operating and tariff questions and issuing Recommendations on them with a view to standardizing telecommunications on a worldwide basis. The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA), which meets every fo

11、ur years, establishes the topics for study by the ITU-T study groups which, in turn, produce Recommendations on these topics. The approval of ITU-T Recommendations is covered by the procedure laid down in WTSA Resolution 1. In some areas of information technology which fall within ITU-Ts purview, th

12、e necessary standards are prepared on a collaborative basis with ISO and IEC. NOTE In this Recommendation, the expression “Administration“ is used for conciseness to indicate both a telecommunication administration and a recognized operating agency. Compliance with this Recommendation is voluntary.

13、However, the Recommendation may contain certain mandatory provisions (to ensure e.g. interoperability or applicability) and compliance with the Recommendation is achieved when all of these mandatory provisions are met. The words “shall“ or some other obligatory language such as “must“ and the negati

14、ve equivalents are used to express requirements. The use of such words does not suggest that compliance with the Recommendation is required of any party. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS ITU draws attention to the possibility that the practice or implementation of this Recommendation may involve the use

15、 of a claimed Intellectual Property Right. ITU takes no position concerning the evidence, validity or applicability of claimed Intellectual Property Rights, whether asserted by ITU members or others outside of the Recommendation development process. ITU-T Y.1910 (09/2008) 1 Recommendation ITU-T Y.1910 IPTV functional architecture 1 Scope This Recommendation describes the IPTV functional architecture intended to support IPTV services based on the IPTV service requirements and definitions b-ITU-T IPTVFG. Starting from a basic desc

27、ription of IPTV roles and services, a high level IPTV functional model is outlined. This model is then developed into a more detailed functional architecture. Specific cases are also described in more detail. The IPTV functional architecture is based on the use of existing network components and tec

28、hnologies, as well as on NGN architectures. This leads to three possible options for the architectural representations: 1) IPTV functional architecture for non-NGN network components. 2) IPTV functional architecture based on the NGN functional architecture, but not based on IMS. 3) IPTV functional a

29、rchitecture based on NGN and its IMS components. The common elements between these alternatives, as well as the differences, are described in this Recommendation. 2 References The following ITU-T Recommendations and other references contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitut

ITU-T Y.1910 (09/2008) 3 Definitions 3.1 Terms defined elsewhere This Recommendation uses the following terms defined elsewhere: 3.1.1 application b-ITU-T Y.101: A

35、 structured set of capabilities, which provide value-added functionality supported by one or more services. 3.1.2 functional architecture ITU-T Y.2012: A set of functional entities and the reference points between them used to describe the structure of an NGN. These functional entities are separated

36、 by reference points, and thus, they define the distribution of functions. NOTE 1 The functional entities can be used to describe a set of reference configurations. These reference configurations identify which reference points are visible at the boundaries of equipment implementations and between a

37、dministrative domains. NOTE 2 This definition is taken from ITU-T Y.2012 and therefore relates to NGN. However, it is also valid for other networks, e.g., networks supporting IPTV. 3.1.3 functional entity ITU-T Y.2012: An entity that comprises an indivisible set of specific functions. Functional ent

38、ities are logical concepts, while groupings of functional entities are used to describe practical, physical implementations. 3.1.4 reference point ITU-T Y.2012: A conceptual point at the conjunction of two non-overlapping functional entities that can be used to identify the type of information passi

39、ng between these functional entities. NOTE A reference point corresponds to one or more physical interfaces between pieces of equipment. 3.1.5 service provider ITU-T M.1400: A general reference to an operator that provides telecommunication services to customers and other users either on a tariff or

40、 contract basis. A service provider can optionally operate a network. A service provider can optionally be a customer of another service provider. NOTE Typically, the service provider acquires or licenses content from content providers and packages this into a service that is consumed by the end-use

41、r. 3.1.6 subscriber ITU-T M.3050.1: The subscriber is responsible for concluding contracts for the services subscribed to and for paying for these services. 3.2 Terms defined within this Recommendation This Recommendation defines the following terms: 3.2.1 content provider: The entity that owns or i

42、s licensed to sell content or content assets. 3.2.2 delivery: In the context of IPTV architecture, “delivery“ is defined as sending contents to the end user. 3.2.3 distribution: In the context of IPTV architecture, “distribution“ is defined as sending the content to appropriate intermediate location

43、s to enable subsequent delivery. 3.2.4 end user: The actual user of the products or services. NOTE The end-user consumes the product or service. An end-user can optionally be a subscriber (see definition of “subscriber“). 3.2.5 linear television (linear TV): A television service in which a continuou

44、s stream flows in real time from the service provider to the terminal device and where the user cannot control the temporal order in which contents are viewed. Rec. ITU-T Y.1910 (09/2008) 3 3.2.6 network provider: The organization that maintains and operates the network components required for IPTV

45、functionality. NOTE 1 A network provider can optionally also act as service provider. NOTE 2 Although considered as two separate entities, the service provider and the network provider can optionally be one organizational entity. 3.2.7 video on demand (VoD): A service in which the end user can, on d

46、emand, select and view video content and where the end user can control the temporal order in which the video content is viewed (e.g., the ability to start the viewing, pause, fast forward, rewind, etc.). NOTE The viewing may occur some time after the selection of the video content. 4 Abbreviations

47、and acronyms This Recommendation uses the following abbreviations and acronyms: AS-FE Application Support Functional Entity BGCF Breakout Gateway Control Function CD service provider; network provider; end user. The functional elements constituting these above domains are described in more detail in

48、 clause 8. 7 IPTV architectural approaches 7.1 Architectural approaches This Recommendation identifies three IPTV architecture approaches that enable service providers to deliver IPTV services: 1) “Non-NGN IPTV functional architecture“ (non-NGN IPTV): The non-NGN IPTV architecture is based on existi

49、ng network components and protocols/interfaces. The technology components, protocols and interfaces used in this IPTV architecture are already in use and hence this approach is a representation of typical existing networks providing IPTV services. This architectural approach can optionally be used as the basis for evolution towards the other IPTV architectures listed below. 2) “NGN-based non-IMS IPTV functional architecture“ (NGN non-IMS IPTV): The NGN non-IMS IPTV architecture utilizes com
