Inspectionofthecircuitsshowsthatthefailuresoccurredwhentheaveragepotentfalofthestrain-sensitivef
13、flamentwasnegativewithresecttothetestspeclneh(ground)I didnotoccurwhentheaveragepotentfalwas&asitivewithrespecttothetestscimen.Operationthoutcircuitgrounding(fig.9(b)wassuccessfulrege,rdiessofthebatterypolarity.Thecorrosionmaybeexplainedbycomparingittoanelectro-lyticeffectinwhichthestrain-sensitivef
14、ilamentandthetestspecimenactaetheelectrodewhereastheSauereisencementactsastheelectrolyteattheelevatedtcmporatures.Theequivalentcircuitisillustratedinfigure10,whichshowsboththecorrectmethodofconnectingthecirouit(fig.10(a)andtheincorrectmethod(fig.10(b).Wheatstone-bridgacircuits,commoninstrain-gagecir
15、cuitsinvolvingtheuse ofsliprings,mustlilm-wisebesoarrangedthattheaveragepotentialofthestraingageispositivewithrespecttothetestsurface.Thevariationoftheresistancewithtemperatureofthehigh-temp&atureutraingagesfabricatedwithNichromeV wireisshowninfigure11.
