10、ation will conform to the analysis for SAE E 52100 and will be bearing quality, vacuum carbon deoxidized. 6.2 Metallurgical Requirements 6.2.1 Hardness Annealed bars and seamless tubing purchased to this specification will have hardness of Brinell 167-192 (Rockwell B 86-92) with the exception of the

12、ubing, Annealed, Tube Reduced. 6.2.2 Inclusion Ratings The inclusion rating will be determined in accordance with ASTM E 45, Method D. The average of all specimens tested, as well as 67% of all specimens, will not exceed the rating specified in Table II. See “Methods of Test, “ page 4. TABLE II INCL

Carbide size rating will not be greater than CS3: carbide network rating will not be greater than CN3: lamellar content will not be greater LC1 as per ASTM A892. 6.3 Dimensional Tolerances 6.3.1 Bars Dimensional tolerances will conform to those specified in ASTM A29. 6.3.2 Seamless Tubing Dimensi

Consequently, while such tubing has an average OD within the tolerances of the above table, an ovality tolerances of 0.5% of the nominal OD, in additional to the OD tolerances indicated above, will be allowed. 30、 1.25 mm/m * See “Methods of Test.” 7.0 QUALITY All product supplied shall be clean and free from dirt, oils, sharp edges, or defects harmful to product performance. The supplier should be capable of providing statistical evidence that the material has been manufactured within process control limits

31、 established by the supplier for this product and that the process is capable of meeting the requirements of this specification. 8.0 METHODS OF TEST 8.1 Inclusion Ratings The polished surface of the specimen for the microscopic determination of the inclusion content will be 0.25 in2(160 mm2) in area

32、, or larger and will be obtained as indicated for the product shown. The surface to be examined will be parallel to the direction of grain flow. 8.1.1 Samples The number and location of test specimens will be as follows: 8.1.1.1 Billets Obtain specimens from six locations in the heat, taken from the

33、 top and bottom of the first, middle and last ingot poured. The specimens will be taken from the billets as prescribed in ASTM E45. 8.1.1.2 Bars Obtain specimens from ten bars selected at random from each lot or heat. Take the specimens as specified in ASTM E45. For bars under 1.5 in (38 mm) in diam

34、eter, refer to “Wire and Rods,” below. 8.1.1.3 Tubing Obtain specimens from ten tubes selected at random from each lot or heat. Examine a complete section of the tube wall, of sufficient length to give an area of at least 0.25 in2, as shown in the figure below. 8.1.1.4 Wire and Rods Obtain specimens

35、 which represent ten coils or rods selected at random from each lot or heat. Examine a section the width of a chord midway between the surface and center, of sufficient length to give an area of 0.25 in2, as shown in the figure below. For convenience in handling, the wire may be cut to suitable leng

36、ths, however, the specified area must be maintained. OCTOBER 2001 Page 5 of 6 Specimen from Tubing For Inclusion Rating Specimen from Wire, Rod, or Bar under 1.5 in diameter for Inclusion Rating 8.1.2 Preparation of Specimens Prep

38、are the surface to be examined with careful metallographic technique to avoid enlarging inclusions or causing pits which may be mistaken for inclusions. In case of controversy, harden the sample before preparation. 8.1.3 Examination of Specimens Determine the inclusion ratings in accordance with AST

39、M E45, Method D. Fields with size or numbers of all types of inclusions intermediate between configurations shown on the chart will be classified as the lesser of the rating number. The worst field of each inclusion type from each specimen will be recorded as the rating for the specimen. 8.2 Seams A

40、nd Surface Defects Measure depth on a polished cross section by conventional microscopic means. Alternate methods may be used for convenience in inspection. 8.3 Austenitic Grain Size Obtain a sample 0.25 in (6.35 mm) in diameter and 2 in (50.89 mm) long. Heat to 1550 F (843 C) for 40 minutes total t

41、ime and quench in 120-140 F (49-60 C) oil having a viscosity of 95-110 Saybolt Universal Seconds at 100 F (38 C). Fracture the sample and compare to the Shepherd fracture grain size standards as per ASTM E112 (A4). Navistar Test Methods AT-2 may be used as an alternate method. 8.4 Homogeneity Prehea

42、t to 160 to 180 F (71 to 82 C) a ground or suitable machined cross section of the bar or tubing. Then immerse in a solution of equal parts hydrochloric acid and water maintained at this temperature, for approximately 35 minutes. Shorter times may not reveal details while longer times may obliterate

43、detail. Immediately after removal from the etching solution, scrub the surfaces with a soft brush while washing under hot water, then dry under an air blast. Examine the cross section under a well diffused light. Compare the samples to be photographic plates described in ASTM E381. 8.5 Carbide Form

44、and Distribution Obtain samples for examination in the as-received condition. Cut samples so that the surface to be examined is parallel to the direction of rolling. Samples from bars will be at the mid-radius, while those from tubing will be a complete section of the wall. 8.6 Straightness Toleranc

45、es Measure the tolerance for any 3-ft. or meter of length with a straight edge of sufficient length and feeler gage. Determine the maximum curvature in the total length by rolling the tubing on a surface plate and measure the curvature with a feeler gage. NUMBER: CEMS A-33 TITLE: Steel for Ball Bear

OCTOBER 2001 Page 6 of 6 9.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 9.1 Supplier Requirements Suppliers must conform to the requirements of the International IQR Quality Standard which includes conformance to the QS-9000 (ISO 9001) Quality System Standard. A mutually acceptabl

48、e Quality Control Plan as described therein is required for source approval to the requirements of this specification. 9.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser.
