43、MATION ( Not a requirement) For comparison of pipe with certain other types of tubular products, see “Appendix-General Information,” MPAPS A-10, Part I. A.1 Manufacturing Process Butt welded pipe is produced in continuous lengths from coiled skelp and subsequently cut into individual lengths, having

44、 its longitudinal butt joint forge welded by the mechanical pressure developed in rolling the hot formed skelp through a set of round pass welding rolls. A.1.1 Electric resistance welded pipe is produced in individual lengths or in continuous lengths from coiled skelp and subsequently cut into indiv

45、idual lengths, having a longitudinal butt joint wherein coalescence is produced by the heat obtained from resistance of the pipe to the flow of electric current of which is a part, and by the application of pressure A.1.2 Seamless pipe is manufactured by hot working steel and, if necessary, by subse

46、quently cold finishing the hot worked tubular product to produce the desired shape, dimensions, and properties. A.2 Characteristics and Application Pipe is made in large quantities and to very liberal dimensional tolerances, and is generally the lowest priced tubular product. No tolerances can be sp

This specification should be used in conjunction with other International tubular specifications, especially MPAPS A-38, w

Standard weight, extra strong, and double extra strong are the most common weight classes although others are available in large diameter pipes. A.3 Grades A.3.1 Grade 1 Covers black and galvanized
