4、 APPLICATION Cold finished bars are free from scale, have closer dimensional tolerances, better machinability, and offer improved mechanical properties. They are also more expensive than hot rolled bar products. 2.0 SCOPE 2.1 This specification covers requirements for general applications of carbon

5、and alloy cold finished steel bars. Whenever applicable the specification should be used in conjunction with MPAPS A-0, Part II, Navistar System of Steel Classification. Unless otherwise specified, the appropriate ASTM Specifications shall apply to this specification. 2.2 Requirements for cold finis

6、hed steel bars not included in this specification are in the following Corporate Engineering Materials Specifications: Wrought Corrosion and Heat Resisting Steel MPAPS A-37 HSLA Grade 50 or similar Materials MPAPS A-43 2.3 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplie

13、ars, Alloy, Hot-Wrought or Cold-Finished, Quenched and Tempered 4.0 REQUIREMENTS Cold finished bars are classified by chemistry and identified by SAE/ASTM steel grade designation Material supplied shall meet the applicable requirements of ASTM A29, ASTM A108, ASTM A311 and ASTM A322. 4.1 Chemical Co

14、mposition 4.1.1 Bars purchased to this specification shall conform to the required analysis for the appropriate steel in MPAPS A-0, Part I, Chemical Composition of Standard Steels. 4.1.2 Steels with an “SR”, “SS” or “SSA” suffix shall have the same chemical composition as those without a suffix. 414

15、5 SS and 4145 SSA shall meet the chemical composition requirements for SAE 4145, except the carbon content shall be 0.40-0.50 percent with lead, tin, or tellurium additions permissible. 4.1.3 The most readily available cold drawn steels are 1018 and 1045. Effort should be made to standardize on thes

16、e grades. 4.2 Mechanical Properties Mechanical properties for as cold drawn bars are not guaranteed, nor are those for turned and polished or turned, ground, and polished bars which have properties of hot rolled bars. See “Appendix - General Information.”. A useful guide for selecting appropriate ba

17、r stock and processing methods to achieve required properties is found in ASTM A400. Required tensile properties for cold drawn, stress relieved steel bars are shown in Table I. 26、n shall conform to the dimensional tolerances in ASTM A108 The diameter tolerances for round bars shown in Table II below and Table IV, page 5, are extracted for convenience. Tolerances for 1144 SS, 4145 SS, and 4145 SSA cold drawn round bars shall be as shown in Table III. See “Appendix - General I

35、LITY Material purchased to this specification shall be manufactured from special quality hot rolled bars, unless otherwise specified. The bars shall be commercially free from injurious defects and shall have a smooth bright surface consistent with the method of cold finishing. 5.1 Methods of Test Pe

36、rform the tensile test according to ASTM A 370. 6.0 QUALIFICATION Engineering qualification of sources is required in advance of production shipments. Samples shall be accompanied by test data certifying that all requirements of the specification have been met. 6.1 Quality Control Plan A Quality Con

37、trol Plan for products supplied to the requirements of this specification will be established by mutual agreement between NAVISTAR and the supplier. Unless specific exception is noted, the following characteristics, where applicable*, shall be included in the plan as features for management by stati

38、stical process control.* * Other characteristics for inclusion in the control plan may be specified on the engineering drawing and/or purchase order. * See NAVISTAR Engineering Design Standard A-16 7.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 7.1 Supplier Requirements All suppliers to NAVISTAR are subjec

39、t to the requirements defined in ISQ-001-QM- NAVISTAR Integrated Supplier Quality Requirements. Suppliers must be compliant with ISO 9001 or TS 16949 and fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and all approval requirements as indicated in NAVISTAR ISQ-001-QM. 7.2 Appr

41、Page 6 of 14 Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in materia

42、l, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify NAVISTAR Integrated Supplier Quality (ISQ) of the proposed change(s) by contacting their Navistar Supplier Quality representative or sending an email to ISQ. Test data indicat

43、ing conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated SDS Safety Data Sheet(s) (formerly MSDS) in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910, shall be submitted with the request for change7.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform and report r

44、esults of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the quality control manag

45、er of the using NAVISTAR plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. 8.0 SHIPPING AND HANDLING Shipping and identification shall be in accordance with NAVISTAR Supplier Packing and Shipping Standard D-13. Parts shall be packaged so as to avoid any damage in shipment

46、detrimental to the appearance of the part. 9.0 DESIGNATION ON DRAWINGS 9.1 Drawings In specifying cold finished steels on engineering drawings, it is desirable to allow as many options as possible at the manufacturing level and still insure proper engineering performance. A system of coding steels t

47、o accomplish these objectives was established and is covered in MPAPS A-0, Part II, International system of Steel Classification. It is recommended that this coding system be used whenever possible. See “Choice of Tables” in MPAPS A-0, Part II. for critical parts where the freedom of a code cannot b

48、e permitted, a specific steel grade should be used. Ordinarily, no reference to A-2 is made on the drawing except for steels with special properties. Examples of drawing specifications for cold finished steels are as follows: 2-421, MPAPS A-0, Pt II 1045 SR, MPAPS A-2 2-400, MPAPS A-0, Pt II 1144 SS, MPAPS A-2 9.2 Purchase Orders Material designation on purchase orders should consist of one of the appropriate grades and any special requirements necessary for proper fabrication
