It will not have a degrading effect on the corrosion resistance of the basic finish of the fitting. 4.1.3 The sealant shall be capable of being used with both metal and plastic mater

、ials. 4.1.4 The fully cured sealant shall be insoluble in water, diesel fuel, 50% mix of water and glycol, oil, automatic transmission fluid, power steering fluid and other chemicals commonly encountered in assembly and use of air brake system components. Exposure to these materials shall not affect

、 the ability of the sealant to meet specified performance requirements. 4.2 Sealant Coated Fittings Coated fittings will meet the requirements of this specification in each of the four following conditions: (a) as received; (b) after at least 3 years storage in shipping containers at temperatures up

、 to 35C; (c) after at least 120 hours exposure at -55 + 5C; (d) after at least 120 hours exposure at 120 + C. 4.2.1 Extent Of Coating Prior to sealant application, inspect the threads to be sure they are not damaged and do not contain slivers, burrs, dirt, or other contamination. The sealant will be

、 uniformly applied around the circumference and along the length of the external threads of the fitting only. The sealant will be dry to the touch. The first one-half to two lead threads of the coated fitting will be substantially free of sealant. Substantially means a small quantity of sealant on t

、ods. The specified methods will be used to reconcile disputed results. A.2.1 Test Fittings Coated fittings for testing to the requirements of this specification will be taken from one lot. Each coated fitting to be tested will be examined for threads damaged prior to coating. Damaged fittings will n

、ot be used in testing. For tests specified to be conducted on fitting assemblies, the coated fitting will be threaded into a corresponding unused plain finish mating part selected from MPAPS S-L 1.101-GS/PL, MPAPS S-L 61.101-GS/PL, MPAPS S-L 7.101-GS/PL, MPAPS S-L 9.101-GS/PL, MPAPS S-M 1.101-GS/PL,

、 MPAPS S-M 2.101-GS/PL, MPAPS S-M 4.101-GS/PL, or MPAPS S-M 5.101-GS/PL. Cleaning of coated fittings prior to assembly for testing, other than with ambient air, is not permitted. A.2.2 Test For Coating Weight Weigh the coated fitting. Using an appropriate solvent for the particular sealant involved,

、 remove the coating from the fitting. Reweigh the stripped fitting. Report the difference as the weight of dry sealant on the fitting. A.2.3 Test For Leakage On Initial Installation Assemble a coated fitting until hand tight and then tighten an additional two full turns (2 x 360). Connect assembly t

Requirement for acceptance to this specification is a leakage rate of 0 cm3/min. A.2.4 Test For Leakage On Repositioning Assemble a coated

、fitting until hand tight and then tighten an additional two full turns (2 x 360). Hold the assembly at 25 2C for 24 hours minimum. At the end of this period, back out the coated fitting one-half turn (180). Connect the assembly to a 120 psi gauge (approx. 830 kPa) air supply and submerge in water. M

、). Immediately disassemble and completely remove the coated fitting. Reassemble the coated fitting until hand tight and then tighten one additional full turn (360). Repeat this disassembly/assembly procedure an additional three times. Connect the assembly to a 120 psi gauge (approx. 830 kPa) air sup
