4、limits prior to use. 1.0 APPLICATION This specification applies to standard parts in sections MPAPS S-L and MPAPS S-M of Navistar Engineering Standard Parts specifications and other threaded pipe fittings. The pre-applied sealant aids in providing a leak-proof joint. 2.0 SCOPE The specification cove
5、rs Navistar requirements for externally threaded pipe fittings coated with a pre-applied sealant. The applicability of coated fittings to critical systems requiring special internal cleanliness should be thoroughly verified before use. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, al

JUNE 2016 Page 2 of 6 4.0 REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Sealant 4.1.1 The purchaser will assign a color to each app
10、roved sealant to identify the manufacturer. 4.1.2 The sealant will not be corrosive to ferrous or non-ferrous metals. It will not have a degrading effect on the corrosion resistance of the basic finish of the fitting. 4.1.3 The sealant shall be capable of being used with both metal and plastic mater
11、ials. 4.1.4 The fully cured sealant shall be insoluble in water, diesel fuel, 50% mix of water and glycol, oil, automatic transmission fluid, power steering fluid and other chemicals commonly encountered in assembly and use of air brake system components. Exposure to these materials shall not affect
12、 the ability of the sealant to meet specified performance requirements. 4.2 Sealant Coated Fittings Coated fittings will meet the requirements of this specification in each of the four following conditions: (a) as received; (b) after at least 3 years storage in shipping containers at temperatures up
13、 to 35C; (c) after at least 120 hours exposure at -55 + 5C; (d) after at least 120 hours exposure at 120 + C. 4.2.1 Extent Of Coating Prior to sealant application, inspect the threads to be sure they are not damaged and do not contain slivers, burrs, dirt, or other contamination. The sealant will be
14、 uniformly applied around the circumference and along the length of the external threads of the fitting only. The sealant will be dry to the touch. The first one-half to two lead threads of the coated fitting will be substantially free of sealant. Substantially means a small quantity of sealant on t
15、he lead threads is permissible provided startability of the coated part into the mating pipe thread is not adversely affected. From the start location, a minimum of the next four threads shall be coated. The sealant shall be applied so that approximately 50% of the thread depth is filled with sealan
16、t. Sealant should not protrude beyond the major thread diameter. 4.2.2 Coating Weight. The total weight of sealant per fitting will conform to the limits shown. This repositioning test is only a means to determine if fittings have been
22、 properly coated. * The reuse test requirement is NOT applicable to coated fittings that have been in service. Specific recommendations and/or instructions for reuse of coated fittings in service will be established by International Engineering where necessary. 5.0 QUALITY All product supplied shall
23、 be clean and free from dirt, oils, sharp edges, or defects harmful to product performance. 6.0 QUALIFICATION Engineering qualification of sources by Materials Engineering is required in advance of production shipments. Samples shall be accompanied by test data certifying that all requirements of th
24、e specification have been met. 6.1 Quality Control Plan A Quality Control Plan for products supplied to the requirements of this specification will be established by mutual agreement between NAVISTAR and the supplier. Unless specific exception is noted, the following characteristics, where applicabl

NAVISTAR will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation a
28、nd approval requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to their Corporate Buyer upon request. 7.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalen
29、t in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the suppli
30、er shall notify NAVISTAR Materials Engineering and Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title
31、 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 7.3 Process Control The supplier shall either, perform and report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of st
32、atistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the quality control manager of the using NAVISTAR plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. 8.0 SHIPPING AND HANDLING Shipping and identification shall be in ac
33、cordance with NAVISTAR Manufacturing Standard MS-D-13. Parts shall be packaged so as to avoid any damage in shipment detrimental to the appearance of the part. 9.0 DESIGNATION ON DRAWINGS AND PURCHASE ORDERS Coated fittings will be selected by part number from Sections L and M of the International E

JUNE 2016 Page 5 of 6 A.1 APPROVED MATERIALS Loctite Vibraseal 516 A-2 TEST METHODS Suppliers are not required to perform the specific test procedures listed, but only to ascertain that their products will conform to specification requirements when tested by the specified meth
38、ods. The specified methods will be used to reconcile disputed results. A.2.1 Test Fittings Coated fittings for testing to the requirements of this specification will be taken from one lot. Each coated fitting to be tested will be examined for threads damaged prior to coating. Damaged fittings will n
39、ot be used in testing. For tests specified to be conducted on fitting assemblies, the coated fitting will be threaded into a corresponding unused plain finish mating part selected from MPAPS S-L 1.101-GS/PL, MPAPS S-L 61.101-GS/PL, MPAPS S-L 7.101-GS/PL, MPAPS S-L 9.101-GS/PL, MPAPS S-M 1.101-GS/PL,
40、 MPAPS S-M 2.101-GS/PL, MPAPS S-M 4.101-GS/PL, or MPAPS S-M 5.101-GS/PL. Cleaning of coated fittings prior to assembly for testing, other than with ambient air, is not permitted. A.2.2 Test For Coating Weight Weigh the coated fitting. Using an appropriate solvent for the particular sealant involved,
41、 remove the coating from the fitting. Reweigh the stripped fitting. Report the difference as the weight of dry sealant on the fitting. A.2.3 Test For Leakage On Initial Installation Assemble a coated fitting until hand tight and then tighten an additional two full turns (2 x 360). Connect assembly t
42、o a 120 psi gauge (approx. 830 kPa) air supply and submerge in water. Measure leakage past the pipe thread joint for one minute. Report leakage rate in cm3/min. Requirement for acceptance to this specification is a leakage rate of 0 cm3/min. A.2.4 Test For Leakage On Repositioning Assemble a coated
43、fitting until hand tight and then tighten an additional two full turns (2 x 360). Hold the assembly at 25 2C for 24 hours minimum. At the end of this period, back out the coated fitting one-half turn (180). Connect the assembly to a 120 psi gauge (approx. 830 kPa) air supply and submerge in water. M
44、easure leakage past the pipe thread joint for one minute. Report leakage rate in cm3/min. Requirement for acceptance to this specification is a leakage rate of 0 cm3/min. A.2.5 Test For Leakage On Reuse Assemble a coated fitting until hand tight and then tighten an additional two full turns (2 x 360
45、). Immediately disassemble and completely remove the coated fitting. Reassemble the coated fitting until hand tight and then tighten one additional full turn (360). Repeat this disassembly/assembly procedure an additional three times. Connect the assembly to a 120 psi gauge (approx. 830 kPa) air sup
46、ply and submerge in water. Measure leakage past the pipe thread joint for one minute. Report leakage rate in cm3/min. Requirement for acceptance to this specification is a leakage rate of 0 cm3/min. A.2.6 Test For Leakage After Fluid Immersion A.2.6.1 Assemble a coated fitting until hand tight and t
47、hen tighten an additional two full turns (2 x 360). Construct an additional 5 separate, identical assemblies. 49、 MPAPS B-1 and 50% Water at 100 + 3C; (c) Grade 1 Diesel Engine Fuel per MPAPS B-32 at 50 + 3C; (d) Dexron II Automatic Transmission Fluid at 120 + 3C; (e) GM Power Steering Fluid at 120 + 3C. A.2.6.2 At the end of this time period, remove the test assemblies from the test fluid baths, wipe down, and then hold at 25 + 2C for one hour minimum. In turn, connect each
