4、 prior to use. 1.0 APPLICATION This specification describes the requirements for various types of heat expandable and curing adhesives and sealants suitable for use as anti-flutter adhesives in cab roofs and doors and for sealing holes and joints. 2.0 SCOPE This specification covers the general requ
5、irements, property and performance requirements, quality, source approval and quality control requirements. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Substances Effective January 1, 2007, all product supplied to the requirements of this specification must comply with the requirements of the MPAPS B-50 specification.

8、ype sealant. It is NOT RECOMMENDED FOR NEW DESIGN. Type I has been replaced by Type III. 4.1.2 Type II An extruded elastomeric adhesive that can be used for bonding roof and other panels to reinforcements over a range of gap sizes. This product is used with oily metal and must be compatible with pre
9、treat and E-coat operations. It expands and cures in the primer oven in a temperature range of 149-177C (300-350F). JUNE 2016 Page 2 of 9 4.1.3 Type III A pumpable elastomeric adhesive and sealant designed for bonding reinforcements to cab panels and for filling seams, gaps and holes. It shall be suitable
11、 for use in resistance-welded joints. This product is used with oily metal and must be compatible with pretreat and E-coat operations. It expands and cures in the primer oven in a temperature range of 149-177C (300-350F). 4.1.4 Type IV Same as Type II except for reduced expansion properties suitable
12、 for joints with narrower gaps. 4.1.5 Type V Similar to Type II except it is generally applied over the E-coat primer as an air/dust sealant. 4.1.6 Type VI Similar to Type II except it is extruded or molded in a unique shape to improve fit/assembly and to further resist wash off. 4.1.7 Type VII Simi
13、lar to Type II except for its design intention as NVH (Noise and Vibration Harshness) or water/air barrier. It expands and cures in E-coat oven at a temperature range of 160-205C (320400F). 4.1.8 Type VIIA Same as Type VII except it has higher expansion properties and a lower viscosity. 4.1.9 Type V

23、ionable and meet all safety standards. 4.2.10 Process Compatibility Uncured sealer/adhesive must remain in joints without flow or washout through the spray and immersion stages of pretreat and E-coat. The supplier is responsible to work with E-coat primer and pretreatment suppliers to insure that se
24、aler/adhesive will not contaminate these process baths. 4.3 Property And Performance Requirements Tests performed after adhesive has been cured as specified in Table 1. 4.3.1 Bond line Thickness, minimum test thickness of cured materials shall be as follows: 4.3.1.1 Type III, VIII: - 0.030 in 4.3.1.

35、 panel and a section representative of the joint (roof reinforcement, door, etc.) where the adhesive is to be utilized. Place a spacer at each end whose thickness allows 100% expansion of the adhesive. Clamp and place the assembly in a circulating air oven at 191 1C (375 + 2F) for 3 hours. 4.3.8.2 R
36、equired: All types - no evidence of loss of adhesion or charring of the adhesive and no deformation of the panels. 4.3.9 Water Absorption 4.3.9.1 Method: Weigh 100 x 200 mm (4 x 8 in) panel (aluminum or steel), then apply 5-10 grams of adhesive and cure in accordance with General Requirements Sectio
37、n 4.1.7. Reweigh sample to determine cured weight of sealant. Immerse sample in water for four hours at room temperature. Remove and blot off surface moisture with absorbent paper. Reweigh to determine increase as moisture absorption. 4.3.9.2 Required: All Types - 2% maximum water absorption. 4.3.10
38、 Adhesive Release from Roof - Type II only 4.3.10.1 Method: Set up assembly per Figure 1, using 4 x 12 inch steel panels and sealer (1/4 x 1 x 3-1/2 in dome). Clamp per Figure 2. Then place in oven at 325F and bake for 30 minutes. Repeat with another assembly in an oven at 375F for 30 minutes. Remov
39、e the assemblies from the oven and allow to cool to room temperature. Remove clamp #2 and 1/2 in spacer from the assembly. Adhesive shall have cured and expanded to meet both metal panels. Place assemblies per Figure 3 in a 275F oven and bake for 30 minutes. 4.3.10.2 Required: Adhesive shall not rel

42、to 250 hours in a QUV-B weathering tester. 4.3.11.2 Required: All Types - Sealant shall cause no discoloration to the painted surface and shall compare favorably with the painted adjoining metal surface where no sealant has been applied. 5.0 QUALITY Material supplied shall not contain abrasive or to
43、xic agents and shall meet MPAPS B-50. Storage life shall be agreed upon between the purchaser and the supplier but should have a minimum of 90 days from receipt of material when stored at standard plant conditions for that facility. 6.0 QUALIFICATION Engineering qualification of sources is required
44、in advance of production shipments. Samples shall be accompanied by test data certifying that all requirements of the specification have been met. 6.1 Quality Control Plan A Quality Control Plan for products supplied to the requirements of this specification will be established by mutual agreement b
45、etween NAVISTAR and the supplier. NAVISTAR will also accept TS
48、-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and must furnish copies of registration certificates to their Corporate Buye
49、r upon request. 7.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser.
