The user is responsible to consult appropriate safety and health practices and to determine the applicability of regulatory limits prior to use. 1.0 APPLICATION This specif
4、ication applies to small, non-AWS-standard, metal arc welds, commonly referred to as tack welds, that are specified on NAVISTAR engineering drawings, part assembly drawings, or installation drawings. The subject welds typically do not meet standard AWS requirements due to available space or the need
5、 to limit heat to avoid part distortion. These welds can be structural and non-structural, are undersized, and are all special cases. 2.0 SCOPE This specification defines 3 types of Navistar tack weld call outs, and the quality and qualification requirements for each type. 2.1 Restricted Chemical Su

The weld may break during the assembly process and there are no residual quality requirements. The weld is not required
11、to have a size or length identified. A weld size/length requirement can be added to the weld callout for purposes of limiting size to reduce heating and control distortion. The size or length does not have to conform to AWS standards. The type of weld may or may not be identified. “TACK WELD TYPE I” will be listed in the tail of the welding symbol. 4.2.2 Type II 4.2.2.1 Tack Weld: Nuts added “there will be 2 or 3 welds evenly spaced around the nut or bolt” R.
