These standards, particularly those covering common hardware (bolts, nuts, screws, fittings, etc.) comply, where possibl
5、e, with standards published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and worldwide national standards organizations such as the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). 2.0 INDEXES: Section A contains an Alphabetical Index, Materi

The Alphabetic Index provides an alphabetic listing of products covered by the Standard Parts Book and indicates the section in which each can be found. 3.0 PART NUMBER ASSIGNMENTS: All part numbers appearing in this book are controlled by Corp
7、orate Technical Standards. Upon request part numbers are assigned to new and reinstated standard parts by Corporate Technical Standards from the special block of numbers reserved for that purpose. 11、shed for standardization of size, material, finish, general physical and performance characteristics, or a combination of these attributes. The criteria are established by consensus of the companys product engineering departments and reflect the parameters within which Group approved parts policies
12、are established. 6.0 HARDWARE PARTS: Hardware is a term used to describe a particular segment of the corporate standard parts commodities that are available as commercial products in various forms and sizes such as bolts, nuts, pins, clamps, washers, and fittings. 7.0 APPROVED PARTS: “Approved“ is t
13、erms used to segregate the parts within a recommended standard parts commodity to reduce variety and assure maximum availability, interchangeability, and cost savings. “Approved parts“ meet the minimum established corporate criteria for standardization of size, material, finish, and general physical
14、 characteristics. The criteria normally are established by consensus of the company product engineering departments and reflect the parameters within which Group approved parts policies are established. With a few exceptions, the general specifications for each type of part include a detailed outlin
15、e of the approved parts policy. 8.0 NOT FOR NEW DESIGN: This is a term used to describe certain standard parts commodities that should not be used in new or revised product designs and, if practical, should be replaced by another design in present products. These commodities normally are placed in t
16、his category as a result of a consensus of the product engineering departments to discontinue use of parts which either have been removed form national standards, or are difficult to procure, or are proprietary parts that limit availability and competitive pricing. There are also cases where other d
17、esigns exist that are interchangeable and technically equivalent or superior, less expensive, more readily available, etc. In rare instances, a “not for new design“ commodity may possess unique design characteristics for special applications for which a substitute commodity does not exist. In these
18、cases, the unique characteristics and examples of special applications will be described for which the commodity may be used. It must be remembered, however, that the listed special applications are not carte blanche approval to use the commodity, and every attempt must be made to design the applica
19、tion to avoid use of the parts. 9.0 SERVICE ONLY PARTS: “Service Only” is the term used for the parts which are no longer used in the production and made available only for service. 10.0 VOID PARTS: This term is used for the items which are voided in the systems like spectrum, team center, CDMS. 21、ETED PART NUMBERS: Periodic usage searches are conducted throughout Navistar operations to confirm approved parts listings and to eliminate items no longer in use. The deleted list of part numbers is maintained by Corporate Standards and information regarding these numbers may be obtained by contact
22、ing the Parts Standardization Section. The increasing exchange of design within our company on a worldwide basis and the increasing number of internationally accepted parts a standard has made it advisable to establish a program for incorporating metric standard parts in the Enginee10-32ring Standar
23、d Parts Book. The following is a reaffirmation of the Corporate Metric Policy Committees agreements reached previously. 1. The Policy in changing to new Metric Series Parts Standards will be to adhere whenever possible to international standards, or standards with strong potential for international
24、recognition. 2. Usage of metric series parts should start when parts availability and economics are optimum for a division. The timing of such releases is a problem to be worked out by each division and its product groups. 3. New metric based standards will only be used after publication as our Corp
25、orate Engineering Standards. 4. Such new standards will only be introduced into new major components such as engines and transmissions, or into complete new machines. 12.0 PARTS NUMBERING: The following policy for obtaining part numbers for metric parts will apply: 12.1 Published Metric Standards: C
26、orporate Standards will assign all part numbers for metric standards published, in the Standard Parts Book. 13.0 DOCUMENT-BASED DOCUMENT CONTROL: These Engineering Standard Parts were converted to document-based document control approximately 5 years ago. Previously, the documents were basically con
27、trolled at a page number level. Users of these documents at that time occasionally fell into the inadvisable practice of referring to individual page numbers in documentation and now are unable to find those page numbers. The contents have not disappeared; they are just accessed at a document level.
