2、COPE This specification covers the requirements for material, mechanical properties, heat treatment, induction hardening, quality, cleanliness, repair welding, and protective coatings for two optional types of construction (Class 1 and 2). See General Information for further description of method of

5、 for thin wall housings requiring heat treatment (Class lA), shall be capable of meeting the applicable mechanical properties listed in Table 1. All steels shall be killed, of fine grain (5 or finer) practice, unless otherwise specified herein or approved by Truck Development and Technology Center,

6、with a max sulfur and phosphorus content of 0.050% and 0.040%, respectively. 10、 wall version of this class, has no specific requirements for mechanical properties. * Mechanical properties are waived for spindle ends of Class 2 (A and B) housings. Note 2: Class 2 is divided into two sub-classes, A and B, depending upon the grade of steel selected by the housing manufacturer. 4.

11、3 Induction Hardening; (all classes) After machining, the axle housing assembly shall be induction hardened, Class 60 (Rc 40) Rc 45 min, per CEMS A-41. Tempering after induction hardening is optional. 4.3.1 Hardening Pattern: The minimum hardening pattern shall include the fillet radius as indicated

12、 by the solid line in Figure 1. The preferred pattern includes the additional area indicated by the dashed line. Case depth shall be measured at point X. In this case, the preferred pattern includes the additional area indicated by the dashed lines. Case depth shall be measured at poi

16、on Handling ServicesNUMBER: TMS- 1056 4.4 Repair Welds All fabrication and repair welds shall meet the requirements of TMS-9505. responsibility of the supplier to guarantee the structural integrity of any repair welding. It shall be the TITLE: REVISION: Rear Axle Housings B-1 4.5 Cleanliness All hou

17、sings shall be clean and free from any material detrimental to the function of the part, assembly, or related parts in its application. Detrimental material includes, but is not limited to, metal flash or flakes, machining or grinding chips, burrs, sand, or dirt. 4.6 Protective Coatings All unmachin

18、ed surfaces shall be protected by a paint which meets the requirements of TMS-9009, Class IV. Color is to be black. This paint shall be compatible with Grade -32 paints, per CEMS G-5, Part III, used as a finish coating by the using plant. 4.6.1 Corrosion Protection: All machined surfaces shall be co

19、ated per TMS-4516, to provide a minimum of six (6) months protection from corrosion for outdoor storage of housing assemblies. 5.0 QUALITY The housings shall be essentially free from defects such as seams, slivers, forging laps, and pits which would be detrimental to the function or serviceability o

20、f the part. Visible longitudinal discontinuities on machined surfaces of the spindle ends shall have the following limits of acceptability: 5.1 Closed or Hairline Discontinuities 5.1.1 OD - Discontinuities: Shall be acceptable, without repair, from the end of the spindle through the threaded area an

21、d outer 30% of the outer bearing area. 5.1.2 ID - Discontinuities: Shall be acceptable without repair for the full length of the spindle. 5.2 Open Discontinuities 5.2.1 OD - Discontinuities: Open discontinuities on the OD are not acceptable. 5.2.2 ID - Discontinuities: Open discontinuities to width

22、of 0.7 mm (0.03 in) shall be acceptable, without repair, for the full length of the spindle. Open discontinuities from 0.7 mm (0.03 in) to 1.5 mm (0.06 in) shall be acceptable, provided that the segment under the threaded area, plus an additional length equal to 10% of the threaded length, is repair

23、 welded and re-bored to size. 5.3 Visible Transverse Discontinuities No visible transverse discontinuities are permitted. 6.0 SOURCE APPROVAL AND QUALITY CONTROL 6.1 Supplier Requirements Suppliers must conform to the requirements of the INTERNATIONAL IQR Standard which includes conformance to the Q

24、S-9000 (IS0 9001) Quality System Standard. A mutually acceptable Quality Control Plan as described therein is required for source approval to the requirements of this specification. 26、MS- 1056 6.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in formulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes i

27、n material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify Truck Development and Technology Center and International Purchasing and Supplier Development of the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requi

28、rements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 6.3 Process Control The supplier shall either perform and report results of tests on specific lo

29、ts of parts produced or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part supplier and the plant metallurgist andor the quality control manager of the using International plant may

30、determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. TITLE: REVISION: Rear Axle Housings B-1 7.0 DESIGNATION ON DRAWINGS Material and Heat Treatment per TMS-1056. A.0 GENERAL INFORMATION (Not a requirement of the specification) Housings covered by this specification consist of a banjo

31、section (body), spindle ends, brake flanges, reinforcing rings, and a cover. The bodies are fabricated from either medium carbon steel (Class 1) or high strength low alloy steels (Class 2). Various methods of fabrication of the bodies are utilized, depending upon the particular design. After the bod

32、y is completed, spindle forgings are welded to each end of the body and the remaining parts are welded in place. &J Class 1 housings are subdivided into two (2) types: Class 1A and 1B. The bodies for Class 1A are thin walled, and require heat treatment (Q & T) to obtain the necessary strength. Class

33、 1B bodies are heavier and are used without heat treatment. A.2 Class 2 housings, also thin walled, are fabricated from high strength low alloy steels. Class 2A and 2B meet the requirements of Grade 45XK and Grade 60, respectively, per CEMS A-43. These bodies are cold formed and do not require furth
