Reference: File 14-5, 40-11 Keywords: Axle Housing Welds 1.0 APPLICATIONThis specification covers the welding performed in International facilities for the purpose of adding various bra
、ckets and spacers to purchased axle assemblies. This welding specification provides a commercial quality weld for truck applications subject to low-to-moderate stress in service. 2.0 SCOPEThis specification covers the requirements for size and quality of fillet welds used in adding brackets to the a
、xle housing assemblies. The location of joints to be welded shall be designated on the engineering drawing using appropriate symbols and notes in accordance with AWS A2.4 to indicate type, size, length and location of welds as required. 3.0 REFERENCE DOCUMENTS Unless otherwise specified, the latest
、issue of all referenced standards shall apply. The following standards, specifications and regulations are referenced in this specification. Quality System Standard ISO 9001 or TS-16949 AWS A3.0 CFR Title 29, Part 1910 AWS A2.4 INTERNATIONAL Manufacturing Standard D-13 3.1 DefinitionsThe welding ter
、ms used in this specification shall be interpreted in accordance with the definitions given in AWS Definitions Welding and Cutting (AWS A3.0). Special conditions shall be fully explained by added notes or details. 4.0 REQUIREMENTS 4.1 Weld LengthWeld length shall be shown on the engineering drawing.
、 Welds shall be acceptable if they are short according to Table 1 and within the limitations imposed by Table 2. 12、signated on the engineering drawing by a welding symbol per AWS A2.4 and shall be located laterally in the joint. When a specified starting or terminal location is shown, the start or end point of the weld shall be within the tolerance shown in Table 2. TABLE 2 Weld Location Tolerance Specified Leng

Portions of the weld which are undersize, or do not meet the mi
、nimum requirements for quality (undercut, porosity, craters) shall be considered as skips and are not considered in the weld length. When it is required that a weld be hooked or boxed around a corner or end of a joint, it shall be indicated on the engineering drawing and included in the specified le

Required “No Weld” areas shall be shown on the engineering drawing using a specific note or dimension defining the location of the joint where no welding
、 is permitted. 4.3 Weld Size The minimum weld leg size on each leg of the fillet welds shall be equal to the specified size, plus the amount of the gap. Suppliers are required to assume all patent liability. 2007 by International Truck and Engine Corporation. 4.4 Throat Thickness The minimum throat thickness of fillet welds shall be equal t
、o 60% of the shortest weld leg size. Maximum throat thickness shall be limited to 100% of the longest leg size. 4.5 Fusion Weld deposits shall be metallurgically bonded for the entire length of the weld leg. 5.0 QUALITY Unless otherwise specified, the following characteristics shall be permitted. No
、 more than one of these characteristics shall be permitted in the weld if any other characteristic is at the maximum limit. The stress concentration effect of these characteristics should be considered in design calculations, and if objectionable, TDTC Applied Mechanics Group or Materials Engineerin
、g personnel should be consulted. 5.1 Undercut Shall not exceed 0.8 mm (.030 in). 5.2 Craters Unfilled craters are not considered part of the effective weld length, and are therefore limited by the weld length tolerance for discontinuities. They can be properly filled and counted in the weld length.
、5.3 Cracks and Burn-Through Cracks in the weld and holes burned through the base stock shall not be permitted. 5.4 Visible Porosity 5.4.1 Frequency No more than four (4) significant pores shall be permitted in any 25 mm (1 in) of weld length with the average limited to one (1) per 25 mm (1 in) of we
、ld length. 5.4.2 Severity The maximum diameter of the pores shall be 1.6 mm (0.06 in ) and shall be spaced at least 1.6 mm (0.06 in) apart. 5.4.3 Pores must be larger than 0.4 mm (0.02 in) in diameter to be considered significant. Porosity shall not be permitted in any weld specified as oil tight. 5
、.5 Inclusions Non-metallic inclusions shall be considered and judged as a discontinuity. 25、 ISO 9001 Quality System Requirements. International will also accept TS-16949 registration as long as the supplier can also fulfill all AIAG PPAP (Production Part Approval Process) documentation and approval requirements. Suppliers must maintain their certification with an accredited registrar and
、must furnish copies of registration certificates to their International Corporate Buyer upon request. 6.2 Approval Parts supplied against contracts or purchase orders citing this specification shall be equivalent in all respects to those samples which were approved by the purchaser. No changes in fo
、rmulation or processing practices are permitted without approval. In the event that changes in material, properties, processing practices, construction, color, or labeling of the product are required, the supplier shall notify Materials Engineering at TDTC and Purchasing and Supplier Development of
、the proposed change(s). Test data indicating conformance to all requirements of this specification, test samples, and new or amended or updated Material Safety Data Sheet(s) (MSDS), in accordance with CFR Title 29, Part 1910 shall be submitted with the request for change. 6.3 Process Control The sup
、plier shall either perform and report results of tests on specific lots of parts produced using ISO 9001 or TS-16949 guidelines, or provide statistical evidence of the lot having been produced in a state of statistical control and with a process capable of providing all required properties. The part
、 supplier and the plant metallurgist and/or the quality control manager of the using International plant may determine testing and reporting requirements on specific products. 7.0 SHIPPING, PACKING AND IDENTIFICATION (Not Applicable) 8.0 DESIGNATION ON DRAWINGS Welding per TMS-9526 The above notatio
