1、I INCH-POUND 1 A-A-503 7 9 29 August 1990 COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION MITTEN SHELLS, MENS This Commercial Item Description is authorized for use in preference to MIL-M-18203. 1. ABSTRACT 1.1 Scope. This commercial item description covers the requirements for a mens leather work mitten shell of one t

2、ype and size only to be worn over knit mittens in cold weather. 2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS 2.1 Design and construction. The mitten shells shall be leather and shall be an unlined IlChopperIl type with a continuous thumb and a buckle strap wrist closure (see Figure 1). All seams shall be on the insid

3、e of the mitten shell. 2.2 Material. 2.2.1 Leather. The leather used for the mitten shall be full grain chrome tanned cowhide bends conforming to type II, class B of MIL-L-40051. The color of the leather shall be cream. 2.2.2 Loop and buckle strap. The loop and buckle strap shall be leather as speci

4、fied in 2.2.1 or 5/8 inch tape conforming to type I, Class 1 or 3 of MIL-T-43566. The tape may be water repellent treated and when class 3 is used, the color shall be olive drab. 2.2.3 Buckles. The buckles shall be steel, 5/8 inch, double bar, tongueless, lip type II, style 3, class 3 of MIL-B-543.

All measurements and tolerances are expressed in inches. Area Measurements Tolerances + 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/2 + 1/4 + 118 - A. O

9、. 2.4 Patterns. The patterns for cutting the mitten shells shall be furnished by the contractor, and shall be of the proper proportions to provide mitten shells conforming to the finished measurements specified in 2.3, 2.5 Labels. A commercial type label is acceptable provided that additional printe

10、d cloth labels containing the information in 2.5.1 is included. 2.5.1 Contract #, NSN. The mitten shells shall have a label containing the contract number and NSN caught in the stitching of the commercial label. 2.6 Product demonstration model. During the solicitation phase, interested firms shall p

11、rovide the Procuring Agency with two product demonstration models of the item they propose to furnish for evaluation. The two samples provided by the successful offerer shall be tagged and sealed. One shall be retained by the Procuring Agency and the other furnished the assigned Quality Assurance Re

12、presentative for use as a reference in performing the examination in paragraph 3.2 and the scoring of defects in design, material and workmanship not otherwise classified herein. 2,7 Workmanship. After completion the mitten shell shall be thoroughly cleaned and all loose thread, lint, and foreign ma

13、tter removed. The mitten shells shall be uniform in quality and shall be free from irregularities or defects which adversely affect performance, reliability, or durability. 3. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 3.1 Certification. When requested by the contracting officer, the contractor shall certify, and

14、 maintain substantiating evidence that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of this Commercial Item Description, and that the product conforms to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices. The Government reserves the right to require proo

The mitten shells sha

16、ll be inspected in accordance with MIL-STD-105. The defects found during the examination of the end item shall be as classified below. The applicable inspection levels and acceptable quality levels (AQLs) shall be as indicated in 3.3. The lot size shall be expressed in units of one mitten shell each

17、. The sample unit shall be one mitten shell and selection shall be by pairs. Defects for pairing shall be classified as a single defect. Classification Defects Major Minor I. II. III. IV. V. VI. Five (5) pair of mitten shells, with every other pair reversed shall be bundled and securely tied. 4.2 Packing. Ninety (90) pair of mitten shells (18 bundl

22、es of 5 pair) shall be packed in a fiberboard shipping container conforming to type CF, class domestic, variety SW, grade 200, size 2A of MIL-B-17757. The liner shall be type CF, class domestic, conforming to the requirements of MIL-B-17757. Each container shall have the contents completely covered

23、on top and bottom with a sheet of commercial grade kraft paper. The box shall be closed in accordance with the box specification. 4.3 Marking. In addition to any special markings required by the contract or order, unit packs, intermediate or exterior containers, and palletized unit loads shall be ma

24、rked in accordance with MIL-STD-129. 4.4 Palletization. When specified (see 5.1), item, packed as specified in 4.2, shall be palletized on a 4-way entry pallet in accordance with load type Ia of MIL-STD-147. Each prepared load shall be bonded with primary and secondary straps in accordance with the

25、bonding methods C and D or Film bonding F or G. Pallet patterns shall be in accordance with the appendix of MIL-STD-147. The pallet shall be 4-way, type IV; type V, class 1, size 2; or type VIII, fabricated from wood groups I, II, III or IV, grade A of NN-P-71, or &way, style 1, size A, type I, clas

26、s 1 fabricated from groups specified of MIL-P-15011. Interlocking of loads shall be effected by reversing the pattern of each course. If the container is of a size which does not conform to any of the patterns specified in MIL-STD-147, the pallet pattern used shall first be approved by the contracti
