SCOPE. This Commercial Item Desc
2、ription covers requirements for flinders bars. As many sections as required are installed vertically in a brass tube on the side of the compass opposite to the effective pole of the ships field for compass correction. 2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS. 2.1 Materials. The flinders bars shall be made of the
3、highest grade commercial pure annealed soft iron having no permanent magnetism and worked in such a manner as to avoid introduction of mechanical strain due to shear or otherwise. Bars shall be cleaned, dried and unit protected to provide protection from physical damage and mechanical malfunction. 2
4、.2 Construction. The flinders bars shall be 609.6 mm overall and shall be comprised of four sections, each of which shall be cylindrical and 50.8 mm in diameter. One section shall be 304.8 mm in length, one section 152.4 mm in. length and two sections 76.2 mm in length. 2.3 Workmanship. Workmanship
5、shall be such that the flinders bars will pass surface inspection and chemical analysis. 2.4 Swacers. Nonmagnetic spacers shall be included with the flinders bars. They shall be cylindrical and approximately the same length as the flinders bars and 47.6 mm in diameter. 2.5 m. A case shall be provide
6、d to contain the flinders bars and the spacers. It shall be constructed so that it can be fastened securely. Cushioning materials shall be provided to protect the flinders and spacers to restrict their movement within the case during transport and stowage onboard naval vessels under at-sea condition

The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR). 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS. The contractor shall certify and maintain substantiating e
10、vidence that the product offered meets the salient characteristics of the Commercial Item Description, and that the product conforms to the producers own drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices, and is the same product offered for sale in the commercial marketplace. The
11、Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under the provisions of the contract. 5. PACKAGING.
