This specification covers the performance., design, manufacture, test, and accept- ance requirements for the Radio Frequency (RF) Adapter, MX-lC158/BRC, hereinafter referred to as the RF adapter. 2. 13、s and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 2.3 Order of precedence. In the event of a conflict between the text of this specification 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 General. The RF adapter shall be in accordance with MIL-E-16400 to the extent specified herein. 3.1.1 First article. When sp

14、ecified in the contract or purchase order, a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 4.3 and 6.3). 3.1.2 Description. The RF adapter shall consist of the components specified in a through c: a. Housing Assembly: SAI DWG D185049 b. Liner: SAI DWG C185050 c. Adapter: NUSC/NLL DWG 02

15、387001 3.2 Characteristics. Characteristics shall be in accordance with 3.2.1 through 3.2.2.5. 3.2.1 Performance. The RF adapter shall interface with Antenna Elements, AS-3435/BRC or AS-3436/BRC, RF Cable Assemblies, CG-3819/BRC or CG-3820/BRC, and Antenna, Transmission Line, AS-3437/BRC of Buoyant

16、Cable Antenna Assembly, AS-3434(Vj/BRC. The RF adapter shall permit reception of RF signals over the very low frequency (VLF) and ;ow fsaiiency (LF) and medium frequency (MF) and high frequency (HF) frequency range and transmission of signals over the MF and HF frequency range. The RF adapter shall

21、dapter shall be capable of withstanding 1000 watts (W) continuous wave (CW) power over the frequency range of 2 megahertz (MHz) to 30 MHz when tested in accordance with 4.5.3. The RF adapter shall exhibit no physical damage as revealed by visual examination, and no electrical degradaticn as indicate

22、d by the DC resistance test of 4.5.1. 3.2.2 Physical characteristics. The RF adapter shall be fabricated and assembled in accor- dance with this specification and the guidance of DWGs specified in a through d: a. SAI DWG C185050 b. SAI DWG 0185049 c. NUSC/NLL DWG 02380006 d. NUSC/NLL DWG 02387001 3.

23、2.2.1 Flexibility. Khen tested in accordance with 4.5.6, the RF adapter shall exhibit no physicl damage as revealed by siirface examination and pressure test, and no electrical degra- dation as revealed by the DC resistance test. 3.2.2.2 Fressure resistance. When tested under hydrostatic pressure in

24、 accordance with 4.5.2, the RF odapter shall not show evidence of damage or flooding. adapter shall exhibit n degradation as revealed by the surface examination, DC resistance test, and RF power test. 3.2.2.4 Tensile strength. When tested in accordance with 4.5.8, the RF adapter, with suitable test

25、cables attached, shall withstand static tensile loads along the axis with no evidence of cracking or other damage. The maximum elongation of the housing section, shall not exceed 1.6 percent when subjected to tensile loads as ipecified in 4.5.8. 3.2.2.3 Durability. The RF adapter shall withstand the

26、 durability test of 4.5.9. The RF 3.2.2.5 Diameter. The RF adapter shall have a diameter of 0.650 inches (in.) - +0.020 in. 3.3 Environmental requirements. Environmental requirements shall be as specified in 3.3.1 and 3.3.2. 3.3.1 Nonoperating temperature. The RF adapter shall withstand shipment and

27、 storage temperatures over the range -40“ Celsius (C) to +7OoC with no degradation. 3.3.2 Operating temperature. When tested in accordance with 4.5.7.2, the RF adapter shall operate at -10C. substances, such as encapsulants, adhesives, or preservatives which could contaminate the closed environment

28、of a submarine. Materials specified in NUSC/NLL DWG 02387001 shall be acceptable. Substitutes shall be approved by the Government. 3.4 Health and safety. Health and safety considerations require avoidance of toxicological 3.5 Workmanship. The RF adapter shall be manufactured with care using the exac

29、t materials, dimensions, and surface finishes specified in NUSC/NLL DWG 02387001. Fabrication shall ensure correct arrangement, hookup, and fastening of all components. The molding procedure for the housing is particularly critical and shall be performed with careful attention to spacing, lay, and t

30、ension of reinforcing members. The completed assembly shall Se clean and free of sand, grit, burrs, cuts, and gouges. 4. Surface examination shall be performed in accordance with Conformance to the requjrements of 3.2.2 shall be verified during the surface MIL-E-16400. examination. Radiographic inspection

The RF adapter shall be passed through J sizing block having a hole 4.5.6 Flex

37、ibility test. The RF adapter, assembled with test cables as shown in FIGURE 1, diameter of 0.670 in. to 0.671 in. maximum. shall be flexed through an S-bend path test device made in accordance with FIGURE 4, three times in each direction, at 60 ft per minute. The continuity of the center conductor a

38、nd the outer conductor of the RF adapter with test cables shall be monitored continuously during the test. The surface examination of 4.5.4 shall be performed. 41、 Temperature test. The temperature test shall be in accordance with 4.5.7.1 and 4.5.7.2. 4.5.7.1 Nonoperating temperature. The RF adapter, assembled with test cables as shown The temperature in FIGURE 1, shall be formed into a coil with a maximum diameter of 22 in. The coil shall be placed in an env

42、ironmental chamber and conditioned for 8 hours at -4OoC. shall be increased at a rate of 10C per hour until the chamber reaches a temperature of +7OoC. The RF adapter and test cable assembly shall then be removed and inspected for damage. The RF adapter shall show no evidence of cracking or other da

43、mage. formance shall be verified by conducting the flexibility test of 4.5.6 at room temperature. The temperature of the environmental chamber shall be held at 70OC for 8 hours. Acceptable RF adapter per- 4.5.7.2 Operating temperature. The RF adapter, assembled with test cables as shown in FIGURE 1,

44、 shall be formed into a coil not over 36 in. in diameter. The coil shall be placed in an environmental chamber and conditioned for 12 hours at -1OOC. While still in the environmental chamber at -lOC, the RF adapter with test cables, shall be flexed through an S-bend path, as shown in FIGURE 4, three

45、 times in each direction, at 60 ft per minute. Electricai continuity of the RF adapter with test cables shall be monitored during the test. The continuity resistance limits shall be as specified in TABLE 1. Acceptable RF adapter performance shall be verified by inspecting the RF adapter for evidence

46、 of damage. 4.5.8 Tensile test. The tensile strength of the RF adapter shall be tested by subjecting the RF adapter to a static tensile load along the axis in accordance with TABLE IV. The test setup shall be similiar to the setup shown in FIGURE 5. The length of the RF adapter housing shall be meas

47、ured under load at the beginning (initial 10-pound (lb) tensile load) and at the 500-lb tensile loads during the fourth cycle. of 3.2.2.4.
