2、encies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers the requirements for booster cans for Boosters Mk 8 and Mk 12, which are used in the Mk 8 Mod 3 Flexible Linear Demolition Charge. 1.2 Classification. The booster cans shall be of the following types, as specified (se

3、e 6.2): Type I Type II For Booster Mk 8 For Booster Mk 12 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 Government documents. 2.1.1 Specifications and standards. The following specifications and standards of the issue listed in the issue of the Department of Defense Index of Specifications and Standards (DoDISS) spec

4、ified in the solicitation form a part of this specification to the extent specified herein. In the event of a conflict between the text of this specification and the references cited hcrcin, thc text of this specification shall take precede

13、nce. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When specified, a sample shall .be submitted for first article inspection (see 4.3 and 6.2). 3.2 Design and construction. 3.2.1 Type I booster cans. Type I booster cans shall conform to Drawing 363037. 3.2.2 Type II booster cans. Type II booster cans shall con

14、form to Drawing 394947. 3.3 Pressure strength. The booster cans shall be capable of withstanding an external hydrostatic pressure of 75 pounds per square inch (psi) without deformation or leakage (see 4.4.1.1). 3.4 General requirements. General requirements for the design and manufacture of ihis equ

The quality of workmanship shall be such as to assure compliance with all the requirements of the applicable specific

16、ations, standards, publications, and drawings. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 Responsibility or inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise spe

17、cified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable or the perfor- mance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the s

18、pecification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform to prescribed requirements. 4.2 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are classified as follows: a. First article inspection (see 4.4.1). b. Quality conformance insp

19、ection (see 4.4.2). 4.3 Sampling. 4.3.1 For first article inspection. Unless otherwise specified (see 4.5.1. i), as soon as possible after the award of contract, the contractor shall submit a sample of five completely assembled booster cans, without explosive charges, of the types being purchased. T

20、he booster cans shall be submitted to the Govenment inspector for first article-inspection at the Government laboratory designated in the contract or order (see 6.2). All containers of first article booster cans shall be plainly marked. In addition each sample shall be plainly identified by a secure

21、ly attached durable tag that contains the following information: Title, number and date of this specification Type (see 1.2) - Type I for Booster Mk 8 and Type II for Booster Mk 12 Sample for first article inspection Name of manufacturer Plant address Reference the procurement contract Further produ

22、ction of booster cans by the contractor prior to the approval of the procuring activity or compte- tion of inspection on the first article samples shall be at the contractors risk. Accepted first article samples shall become the property of the procuring activity and will not be included in the quan

23、tity of booster cans required in the contract or order. 4.3.1.1 First article sample for subsequent contracf or order. If a contractor has previously delivered booster cans in accordance with the requirements of this specification and his product has been found to be satisfactory, the first article

24、sample for any subsequent contract for the specific type of booster cans previously delivered may be waived at the discretion of the procuring activity (see 6.2). 4.3.2 For quality conformance inspection. 4.3.2.1 Inspection. A sample of booster cans shall be selected from each lot in accordance with

25、 the procedures of MIL-STD-105, acceptable quality level (AQL) of 2.5 percent defective. A lot shall consist of booster cans of the same type, manufactured under essentially the same conditions, and submitted for acceptance at the same time. 4.3.2.2 Pressure test. A sample of booster cans shall be s

26、elected from each lot in accordance with MIL-STD-105, Appendix, Inspection Level L4, AQL 6.5 percent defective. 4.3.3 For packaging, packing and marking inspection. A sample of containers, prepared for shipment, shall be selected from each lot in accordance with MIL-STD-105, Appendix, Inspection Lev

27、el L4, AQL 6.5 percent defective. The first article sample specified in 4.3. i shall be examined

28、 as specified in 4.4.2 and subjected to the following test: 4.4.1.1 Pressure test. Each sample booster shall be weighed. The sample can shall then be immersed in water at a temperature of 75“ to 85F and subjected to an external hydrostatic pressure of 75 psi for i0 minutes. After removal, the extern

29、al surfaces of the cans shall be wiped dry and the can shall be weighed. Any increase in weight of the can shall be attributed to leakage. Any sample can which shows deformation or increase in wcight greater than 2 grams shall be classed as defective. 4.4.1.2 Results of inspection. When first articl

30、e inspection is completed, the Governmcnt laboratory shall notify the Governmcnt inspector, who in turn shall notify the contractor of the results. Thc contractor shall take the necessary action to correct any deficiency, and may be required, at the discretion of the laboratory, to submit additional

31、 samples until the specified number of satisfactory samples have bccn submittcd. Such samples shall be accompanied by a description of the changes made to correct the deficiencies of the previous submissions. 4.4.2 Quality conformance inpection. The sample booster cans specified in 4.3.2.1 shall be

32、visually and dimen- sionaIly inspected to determine compliance with 3.2 and 3.5. Quality conformance lot acccptancc shall be in accordance with 4.3.2.1. 4.4.2.1 Pressure test. The sample booster cans specified in 4.3.2.2 shall be completely assembled, without the explosive charge, and tested in acco

33、rdance with 4.4.1.1. Quality conformance lot acceptance shall be in ac- cordance with 4.3.2.2. a 4.4.3 Packaging, packing and marking inspection. The sample containers specified in 4.3.3 shall bc inspected to determine compliance with the requirements of section 5. Qualityhconformance lot acceptance

34、 shall be in ac- cordance with 4.3.3. 5. PACKAGING 5.1 Preparation for shipment. The booster cans shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with Levels A, B, or C as specified in the contract or order (see 6.2). 5.2 Packaging. 5.2.1 Level A. Ten (10) booster cans of the same type shall be package

35、d in a box conforming to type I, class 2, style RSC of PPP-B-636. The buoster cans shall be separated by spacers with sufficient cushioning provided to prevent free movement within the package. The end and side spacers shall be the same height as the inside of the box. 5.2.2 Level B, Not applicable.

36、 5.2.3 Level C. Packaging shall be in accordance with the manufacturers commercial practice which will assure receipt of the booster cans in an undamaged condition at the point of destination. 5.3 Packing. 5.3.1 Level A. Six (6) unit packages, as specified in 5.2.1, shall be packed in snug fitting b

Six (6) unit packages, as specified in 5.2.1, shali be packed in snug fitting boxes

38、 conforming to type II, class 2, style 2 or 4 of PPP-B-621. 5.3.3 Level C. The booster cans, packaged as specified in 5.2.3, shall be packed to afford protection against damage during direct shipment from the supply source to the first receiving activity for immediate use. Con- tainers shall conform

39、 to Unform Freight Classification, National Motor Freight Classification or to rules of othcr carriers applicable to the mode of transportation. 5.4 Marking. In addition to any special marking required by the contract or order (see 6.2), packages and . shipping containers shall be marked in accordan

40、ce with MIL-STD-129. 6. NOTES 6.1 intended use. 6.1.1 Tzpe 1 buoster ran. Type 1 booster cans are intended to be loaded with the explosive charge specified iii Drawing 363937, to form Booster Mk 8. 6. I .2 Type II booster can. Type II booster cans are intended to be loaded with the explosive eharge

41、specified in Drawing 394947, to form Booster Mk 12. 6.2 Ordering data. Acquisition documents should specify the following: a. Title, number and date of this specification b. Type of booster cans (sec 1.2) c. First article waiver, when applicable (see 3.1 and 4.3.1.1) d. Governnicnt test laboratory (

42、see 4.3.1) e. Required levels of packaging and packing (see 5.1) f. Special marking, if required (see 5.4). 2 6.3 Criteria for use of proper leuel of packaging and packing. 6.3.1 Level A. This level should be used for those items which are to be shipped to temporary destinations or storcd under temp

43、orary conditions for redistribution elsewhere. 6.3.2 1,evel B. This levei should be uscd for those items which are subject to multiple domestic shipments, handling, and covered storage. 6.3.3 Level C. This level should be used only when it is definitely known that the packaged item is to be ship- ped to domestic installations for immediate use at the first receiving activity.
