The fabric shall be cotton.3.1.1 Yarn. The fabric yarn shall have been cleaned, carded, drawn, and spun into singleyarn
14、s for both the warp and the filling.3.1.2 Color. The fabric color shall be bleached white.3.1.3 Physical requirements. The fabric shall conform to the requirements in table I whentested as specified (see 4.2).3.1.4 Weave. For grade 1 cloth, the fabric weave shall be plain weave. For grade 2cloth, th

The cloth shall be free from loose thread, ravelings, lint and fluff fromcloth or
16、yarn or particles of a size visible to the unaided eye. The cloth shall also be free of anyvisible foreign particulate matter, dirt or grease either embedded in the cloth or adhering thereto.3.1.5.2 Grade 2. The cloth shall be free from loose thread, ravelings, lint and fluff fromcloth or yarn or lo
17、ose particles of a size visible to the unaided eye. Each cloth may contain nomore than five specks or stains of no visible thickness, and no speck or stain may exceed 1/16inch in any dimension. Non-white threads woven into the fabric are acceptable.3.1.6 Finish. The fabric shall be free of sizing an

The fabric shall not discolor or show visible degradationwhen immersed in each of the following solvents for a period of
21、60 minutes at ambienttemperature:(a) Acetone(b) Isopropyl alcohol(c) Trichloroethylene(d) Dry cleaning solvent (stoddard solvent) in accordance withMIL-PRF-680(e) Nonionic detergent in accordance with MIL-D-16791 (one fluid ounce in onegallon of tap water) combined with trisodium phosphate detergent
22、 solution(approximately 23 ounces to every one gallon of total detergent solution)3.1.8 pH. The pH value of the water extract of the fabric shall be no less than 6.0 and nomore than 8.0 when tested as specified (see 4.2).3.1.9 Nonfibrous materials. The fabric shall not exceed 2.0 percent starch and
23、proteincontent including chloroform-soluble and water-soluble material when tested as specified (see4.2).3.1.10 Absorbency. The fabric shall be considered absorbent when water and oil areabsorbed into the fabric within 30 seconds, when tested as specified (see 4.4).3.1.11 Leachable chemicals. The cl
24、oth shall contain no more than 250 parts per million(ppm) (micrograms per gram) of water leachable sulfur or 250 ppm (micrograms per gram) eachof water leachable halides (fluoride, chloride, and bromide), when tested as specified (see 4.2).3.1.12 Mercury. The fabric used to manufacture lint-free clo
25、ths shall not contain mercuryand shall not be contaminated by mercury or mercury compounds during manufacturing ofcloths.3.2 Design and construction.3.2.1 Dimensions. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), the cloth dimensions shall beClass A or B.3.2.2 Edge stitching. The outer periphery of the clot
26、h shall be hem stitched with a three-thread tight needle thread overseam of 18 + 1 stitches per inch. The thread shall be ofpolyester or hard finished cotton. Hem stitches shall be ended in such a manner so as topreclude the possibility of threads unraveling at these areas on the cloth. Any hanging
27、threadsshall be trimmed to a length of 1/16 inch or less. Grade 1 cloths shall use white thread for edgestitching. 28、equirements for lanyard (type II design). The lanyard shall be made from 3/16inch clean white braided nylon cord. The nylon lanyard shall have the ends melted to preventfraying. All loose globules or residues resulting from the melting process shall be removed bywiping the ends off with a cloth whil
29、e still hot. The lanyard length shall be no less than32 inches and no more than 36 inches including a minimum of three inches stitched to the clothas shown in figure 1. The lanyard shall be knotted as shown in figures 1 and 2. The overhandknot shall be tied snug up to the modified fishermans knot. T
30、he length between the overhandknot and the melted end of the lanyard shall measure 2 + inches.3.2.3.1 Lanyard stitching. Stitch the lanyard and cloth together by using polyester thread.The stitching shall consist of one row of straight line lock stitching down the center of thelanyard (minimum of si
31、x stitches per linear inch). A minimum of three inches of lanyard shall bestitched to the lint-free cloth. The cloth shall be wrapped around the lanyard one and one-halfturns as shown in figure 1.3.3 Workmanship. The final prepared cloth shall have no tears or holes and no visiblehanging threads of
32、a length greater than or equal to 1/16 inch from cloth edges or loosestitching on cloth edges and lanyards. There shall be no sign of unraveling of thread on edge orlanyard stitching.4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Responsibility for inspection. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purch
33、aseorder, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements(examinations and tests) as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract orpurchase order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable for theperformance of the inspection
34、 requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by theGovernment. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth inthis specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to ensure supplies andservices conform to prescribed requirements.4.1.1 Responsibility f
35、or compliance. All items shall meet all requirements of sections 3and 5. The inspections set forth in this specification shall become a part of the contractorsoverall inspection system or quality program. The absence of any inspection requirements inthe specification shall not relieve the contractor
36、 of the responsibility of ensuring that all productsor supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance comply with all requirements of thecontract. Sampling inspection, as part of manufacturing operations, is an acceptable practice toascertain conformance to requirements, however, this does not
37、authorize submission of knowndefective material, either indicated or actual, nor does it commit the Government to acceptdefective material.4.1.2 Certification of Quality Conformance. A certification of quality conformance shall befurnished with each lot of cloths offered for acceptance. Figure 3 ide
38、ntifies the data which mustbe provided. The certification may be in the form
39、shown in Figure 3, or a suppliers formwith the same information.4.2 Test methods. Test methods shall be in accordance with table II. More than onecloth may be tested if needed to provide sufficient samples for all required tests. Test andinspection results shall meet the requirements of section 3.4.
40、3 Quality conformance inspection.4.3.1 Fabric. Fabric from which the cloths are made shall be inspected and tested (onceper lot) for all attributes specified in table II.a. An inspection lot is all fabric of the same gradeproduced in the same production run. The fabric shall be tested using the appl
41、icable testmethods in table II.a and shall meet the applicable requirements in section 3. All non-conforming fabric shall be rejected. Test results shall be retained for review by the command oragency concerned upon request.4.3.2 Cloth. Samples of individual finished cloth shall be selected at rando
42、m from all thefinished cloths in a lot. Samples shall be tested for the attributes in table II.b and shall meet theapplicable requirements of section 3. The required number of samples and criteria for lotacceptance are listed in 4.3.2.2.4.3.2.1 Inspection lot. An inspection lot shall consist of clot
43、hs of the same type, grade,and class produced from the same supply of fabric and produced in the same production run.The lot size is the total number of individual cloths in the lot.4.3.2.2 Sampling plan. Testing for water leachable elements is required to be performedon only one finished cloth per
44、lot, regardless of lot size. If the sample fails, the lot shall berejected.
