16、cable laws andregulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 Materials. All materials used in the manufacture of the initiators shall conform to the specificationsreferred to on the respective drawings unless specific approval in writing covering a departure therefromha
17、s been obtained from the cognizant Navy design activity prior to manufacture. When alternatematerials or methods of manufacture are specified on the drawings, the bidders selections shall be clearlystated in the proposal. 3.2 Components.3.2.1 Primary components. For the purpose of this specification
18、, the M91 impulse cartridge (Drawing8597230) is defined as a primary component. Only primary components from a single lot shall be used ina production lot of initiators; however, one primary component production lot may be used in more thanone initiator production lot. 3.2.2 Component parts. All com
19、ponent parts shall meet the applicable requirements ofMIL-DTL-48412 or MIL-DTL-60519 prior to assembly. 3.3 Breakaway torque. The chamber and cap of each assembled initiator shall withstand a breakawaytorque application of 400 inch-pounds without loosening or deformation (see 4.3.1). 3.4 Residual ma
20、gnetism. The initiator shall not deflect the indicator of the compass more than fivedegrees in either direction (see 4.3.2). 3.5 Radiographic examination. Each initiator assembly shall be radiographically examined for defects(see 4.3.3). 3.6 Functional.3.6.1 Ballistics. Initiators loaded with cartri
21、dges from one accepted lot and temperature conditionedshall perform within the pressure values and delay times (see 6.4.1) specified in table I. Pressure valuesshall be recorded at the end of 15 feet of aircraft hose, assembly number MS28741-4, and a pressurechamber with a volume of 1 cubic inch. Pr

The initiator shall be fired by a source delivering an output pressure of 700 +25, -0pounds per square inch gage (psig) at 70 5bF. 3.6.2 Misfires. There shall be no misf
23、ires. 3.6.3 Mechanical failures. The initiator shall function without mechanical failure (see 6.4.2). TABLE I. 24、all be free of cracks, splits, or other defects which might prevent propermating with connecting parts or proper functioning of the device. 3.7.1 Metal defects. All components shall be free from cracks, splits, cold shuts, inclusions, porosity, orany similar defect. 3.7.2 Burr. No part shall have a
25、burr which might interfere with the assembly or function of the item orwhich might be injurious to personnel handling the item. 3.7.3 Foreign matter. No part or assembly shall contain chips, dirt, grease, rust, corrosion, or otherforeign matter. 4. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS4.1 Classification of i
26、nspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are classified asfollows:a. Conformance inspection (see 4.2).4.1.2 Quality assurance terms and definitions. Reference shall be made to ASQC A8402 to define thequality assurance terms used. 4.1.3 Inspections. Inspections shall be in accordance
27、with MIL-A-2550 and ASTM E1742.4.2 Conformance inspection provisions.4.2.1 Lot.4.2.1.1 Submission or product. One hundred percent examination shall be performed for all critical defects.Examination for major and minor defects shall be perform
29、ed in accordance with the classification ofdefects. Four power (4x) magnification may be used for inspection of such defects as burr and foreignmatter. When compliance with the applicable requirement is in doubt as a result of visual examination,the characteristic shall be measured or gaged to deter

36、 finish inadequate or defective Visual4.2.3 Inspection testing. The following tests shall be performed in accordance with 4.3. 4.2.3.1 Breakaway torque. Each assembly shall be subjected to the breakaway torque test of thethreaded joint between the cap and the chamber. Failure of any assembly to comp
37、ly with 3.3 shall because for rejection of the assembly. 4.2.3.2 Residual magnetism. Each initiator shall be subjected to the test for excessive residualmagnetism as specified in 4.3.2. Failure of any initiator to comply with 3.4 shall be cause for rejection ofthe initiator. 4.2.3.3 Functional tests
38、. The following tests shall be performed by the Government. 4.2.3.3.1 Ballistics. Twenty-one units shall be tested to determine compliance with 3.6. The units shallbe temperature conditioned as provided in table II and 4.3.3.2. Failure of any unit to comply with 3.6shall be cause for rejection of th

The torque wrench set as specified in 3.3 shall be used in conjunction with afixture to determine t
41、he adequacy of the joints. The chamber shall be secured in a suitable vise, and thetorque shall be applied to the cap. 4.3.2 Residual magnetism. The assembly shall be tested for excessive residual magnetism using anapproved compass in an area free of local magnetic effects by placing the assembly 5
42、inches from the endat the same height as the compass, in the north-south horizontal position (cap end at south) with thecompass set in an east-west heading. The assembly shall be moved at a speed no greater than 10 feet perminute past the compass for its entire length, rotated 90 degrees in the hori
43、zontal position about itslongitudinal axis, and moved slowly back past the compass. This procedure shall be repeated for each 90degree rotation of the assembly for four full passes. 4.3.3 Radiographic examination. All assembled initiators shall be radiographically examined inaccordance with ASTM E17
44、42, with the exception that an initiator assembly will be used for thepenetrameter. Any observable imperfections in components or assembly shall be cause for rejection. Theinitiators shall be positioned for the most revealing exposure, with the long axis of each assemblyperpendicular to the rays of
45、the X-ray machine. All initiators shall be identified with serial numbers priorto X-ray examination. The serial numbers shall be in consecutive order beginning with the number 001 ineach production lot. Any missing numbers are to be identified on the X-rays. The initiators shall bearranged on trays
46、or boards in consecutive numerical order, and each radiograph shall carry a permanentidentification of the units displayed thereon. The radiographic plate identification shall include itemnomenclature, the complete lot number, the span of serial numbers displayed, and the contract number.The radiogr
47、aphs of the entire production lot shall accompany the ballistic sample to the activityconducting the production lot acceptance test. Defective initiators found during X-ray review are to bemarked on the X-ray prior to shipment and those defective items shall be removed from the productionlot. Film i

The test sample shall be rigidly supported in the fixture and fired by a sourcedelivering an output of 700 +25, -0 psig at the end of 15 feet of aircraft hose, MS28741-4, at 70 5bF.The sample shall be tested within 5 minutes after removal from the temperature conditioning chamber.When this time limit is exceeded, the sample units shall be reconditioned in accordan
