2、artment of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers inherently combustion retardant ilexible with low emission of smoke and toxic products to be used for the protection foams of fragile items aboard Navy ships., These foams include, but are not npcessarily limited to polyimide types. 1

3、.2 Classification. The flexible foam should be furnished in the following classes and grades: Class 1 - Sheet stock, specified thickness Class 2 - Die cut to soecified shape and thickness 2. 11、 between the text.of this specification and the references cited herein, the text of this specification shall take precedence. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Dynamic Properties, The foam shall meet the.dynamic cushioning requirements for Type II, Class 2 material as specified in MIL-P-26514, (see 4.3.3.1). Pag

13、ironmental Health Center, Norfolk, Virginia. Prospective suppliers shall submit completed Material Safety Data Sheets (OSHA Form 201, (see FED-STD-313 for instructions) and in addition all data and information noted in Table I and herein with their bids. 3.2.1.1 a. Data and Information to be Submitt

14、ed. A complete listing of all ingredients contained in the foam is required. All ingredients present in quantities greater than 5% (by weight) mustbe stated within plus or minus 5%. Those constituents present inquantities less than 5% (by weight) may be estimated to the nearest plus or minus 0.5%, a

15、nd those materials present in quantities of less than 0.5% (by weight) may be stated as such. 20、and prior to beginning production the contractor shall manufacture preproduction sample quantities of the foam (using the same process by which he will produce the foam to be delivered to the Navy) and per- form the test and evaluation described following: 3.2.2.1 Den.sity - The density shall be bet

22、 temper- atures from - 110“ F to 527O F when tested as specified in paragraph 4.3.2.2. Thickness 1/2“ Thick, Min to 6“ Thick, Max. (All Sheet Sizes) 3,2.2,3 Vertical Burn - The flame time shall be O seconds, burn length (clear) 1.2 inches maximum and no dripping when a flame is applied as specified

23、in paragraph 4.3.2.3. 3.2.2.4 Smoke Generation - There shall be no more than 4% smoke generation when tested in accordance with paragraph 4.3.24. 3.2.2.5 Oxygen Index - The oxygen index shall be no less than 40% when tested as specified in paragraph 4.3.2.5. 3.2.2.6 Flame Spread - The surface flame

24、spread index shall not exceed 1.0 when tested as noted in paragraph 4.3.2.6, 3.2.2.7 Ce11 Size - Maximum cell diameter shall be 0.20 inch. No more than 25% of the projected area of any cut.section of foam shall consist of cells between 0.125 inch diameter and 0.20 inch diameter. All other cells shal

25、l be smaller than ,0125 when evaluated as described in paragraph 4.3.2.7. 3.2.2.8 Health.Hazard. 41、d in MIL-P-26514, for Type II Class 2 foams. 4.3.2.3 Vertical-Burn. The flame time, burn length and amount of dripping shall be as noted in Table I and para. 3.2.2.3 when tested in accordance with specification ASM F-501. 4.3.2.4 Smoke Generation. When tested as specified in ASTM D-2843, there shall

42、 be no more light absorbed than noted in Table and para. 3.2.2.4. 4.3.2.5 Oxygen Index. The limiting oxygen index shall be not less ehan that noted in Table I and para. 3.2.2.5 when tested by specification ASTM D-2863. The flame spread index shall be no more than that 4.3.2.6 Flame Spread. indicated

43、 in Table I and para. 3.2.2.6 when tested as specified in ASTM E-162. The maximum cell size and the cells larger than 0.125 shall be n

44、o more than that shown in Table I and para. 3.2.2.7. When evaluated by visual inspection (and calculation) using a 10 x magnification industrial microscope. Give samples, randomly selected, with smooth cut flat surfaces at least 1“ x 4“ in size shall be inked and imprinted on smooth white paper for
