SCOPE 1.1 Scope.- This specification covers marine, trip wire and crash truck grapnels. 1.2 Classification.- Grapnels shall be of the following types, sizes and classes, as specified (see 6.1): 7 Type I - Heavy marine. Size 1
3、 - 450 pounds (4 prong). Size 2 - 225 pounds (5 prong). Size 3 - 170 pougds (3 prong). Size 1 - 100 pounds (5 prong). Class 1 - Wrought iron or mild steel. Class 2 - Nonmagnetic. Size 2 - 50 pounds (5 prong). Size 3 - 15 pounds (5 prong). Class 1 - Wrought iron or mild steel. Class 2 - Nonmagnetic.

13、 heavy marine.- Type I grapnels shall be made of steel conforming to class 1 of QQ-S-681. Grapnels shall be in accordance with table I and figures 1, 2, and 3 for sizes 1, 2, and 3, respectively. When specified (see 6.1) the grapnel may be furnished without shackles. The eye for the tripping line sh
14、all be of forged steel conforming to grade M of MIL-S-20166 and shall be welded to the base of the shank. Shackles shail conform to type N, class 1 of RR-C-271. 3.1.2 Type II, light marine.- Sizes 1, 2, 3 and 4 grapnels shall have five prongs equaly spaced around the shank and size 5 grapnel shall h
15、ave 3 prongs equally spaced around the shank. Class 1 grapnels shall be made of steel conforming to MIL-S-20140 or grade A of QQ-1-686. Class 2 grapnels shall be made of non- magnetic material conforming to either alloy 1 or 2 of MIL-s-17758 or in accordance with type A or B of MIL-S-17249. 2 Provid

The grapnels shall be constructed in
17、 accordance with figure 4. The eye shall be fitted with a thimble capable of accommodating a rope of the circumference specified below. Thimble shall be in accordance with type I of FF-T-276. Six feet of 1/4 inch chain shall be attached to each grapnel by means of a pear-shaped co
19、nnecting link. Chain shall be welded steel, proof coil chain in accordance with type I, grade C, class 4 of RR-C-271. A second pear-shaped connecting link shall be attached to the other end of the chain. Both pear-shaped links shall be fabricated from 11/32 inch diameter bar stock, and shall be clos
20、ed by welding; zinc coating shall be done after welding. A thimble capable of accommodating a rope of the circumference specified below shall be fitted to the second pear-shaped link. 21、 142 3.1.2.3 Size 5.- The nominal weight of size 5 grapnel shall be 2 pounds. The size 5 grapnel shall be made of steel confox to No. C1026 to C1035 of QQ-S-633. The dimensions and details of construction shall be as shown on figure 5. Welding, as indicated on figure 5, shall be accomplished with el
22、ectrodes in accordance with MIL-E-15599 or MIL-E-18038. 3.1.2.4 Nonmagnetic chain links and thimbles.- Nonmagnetic 1/4 inch chain and pear-shaped connecting links shall be made in accordance with either alloy 1 or 2 of MIL-S-17758. Nonmagnetic thimbles shall be made in accordance with either alloy 1
23、 or 2 of MIL-S-17758 or type B of MIL-S-17249. 3.1.3 Type III, trip wire,- 3.1.3,l Size 1.- Trip wire grapnels shall be made of steel conforming to grade M of MIL-S-20166. Grapnels shall have three prongs and be of a nominal weight of 26 ounces. The dimensions and assembly de- tails shall be as show
24、n on figure 6. 3.1.4 rippe IV, crash truck.- 3.1.4.1 Size 1.- Type IV, size 1 grapnels shall be made of material conforming to No. C1035 of QQ-S- 633. Grapnels shall have four prongs and be of a nominal weight of 5 pounds. The dimensions and construc- tion details shall be as shown on figure 7. Each
25、 grapnel shall be fitted with a 80-foot, 5/16-inch diameter 7 by 19 steel wire rope in accordance with MIL-C-1511. A 3/4-inch drop forged, steel, reversed eye hook shall be attached to the other end of the cable. Thimbles shall be used in securing the cable to the grapnel and to the hook. Thimbles s
26、hall be in accordance with type EI of FF-T-278. The cable connections to the hook shall be made with an eye splice or by the use of two 5/16 inch wire rope clips. The eye splice, if used, shall be wormed ami served. 3.1.4.2 Size 2.- Type IV, size 2 grapnels shall be made of steel conforming to No. C
27、1025 to C1060 of QQ-S-633. eels shall have three prongs and be of a nominal weight of 11 pounds. The dimensions and construction details shall be as shown on figure 8.
