2、nts and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification describes quick recovery, steam water heaters as a complete system. This specification ensures that all system components are compatible and properly integrated with regard to size, function, and performance. The h

3、eater systems comply with system integration requirements, performance, endurance, safety test procedures, shock and vibration, and standardization for installation on U.S. Naval Surface ships. 1.2 Classification. Heaters are of the following classes, as specified (see 6.2): Classes : Class A - Pers

4、onnel use, 125 degrees Fahrenheit (OF) (example: showers Class B - Non-personnel use, 160F (example: grease intercept hoods Class C - Non-personnel use, 180F (example: laundry and scullery), and lavatories). and pot sanitizing sinks). 1.2.1 Temuerature rating. The temperature rating of heater system

5、s provided in accordance with this specification shall be 125“F, 160“F, and 180F for Class A, B and C respectively. These ratings are synonymous with the class designation throughout. The capacity of heater systems provided in accordance

8、with this specification shall be rated based on the amount of outlet water that can be generated :it rated temperature assuming a 40F inlet water temperature. Capacity ratings shall be in gallons per minute (gai/min). Ratings shall be in multiples of 5 gal/min. 1.3 Terms. The following describes ter

9、ms used in this specification a. “Heater“ and “heater system“ are used synonymously within this specifi- cation to mean the complete assembly of heat exchanger, control, monitoring, and miscellaneous equipment supplied. b. “Load“ refers to the demand for flow of outlet water. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sample shall

31、be subjected to first article inspection (see 6.5) as specified in 4.3, 3.2 Materials. The materials that shall be used in manufacturing the heaters are listed in table I. This table is not restrictive and materials of equal or better service may be proposed, providing approval has been granted for

Corrosion-resisting steel, copper, bronze, copper-nickel, and copper-nickel alloys as specified herein are considered corrosion-resisti

37、ng materials. Where corrosion-resistant steel is used, it shall be 300 series stainless steel. Corrosion-resisting steel, when fabricated by any method that tends to reduce corrosion-resistant properties, shall be normalized to restore those properties before being used in the assembly of any unit.

38、3.2.1.2 Non-corrosion-resisting materials. Parts other than corrosion-resisting materials shall be protected against corrosion by the use of chemicals, electrolytic processes, plating, or paints and enamels. 3.2.1.3 Hardware. Self-tapping screws with machine-screw threads may be used in the cabinet

39、assembly. Sheet-metal screws with sheet-metal threads shall not be permitted. 3.2.1.G Recovered mazirials. Unless otherwise specified herein, all equipment, material, and articles incorporated in the products covered by this specification shall be new and may be fabricated using materials produced f

40、rom recovered materials to the masimum estent practicable without jeopardizing the intended use. The term “recovered materials“ means materials which have been collected or recovered from solid waste and reprocessed to become a source of raw materials, as opposed to virgin raw materials. None of the

41、 above shall be interpreted to mean that the use of used or rebuilt products is allowed under this specification unless otherwise specifically specified. 3.3 Construction. 3.3.1 General requirements. The steam water heater system shall be a complete system for field assembly or pre-assembly in which

42、 all components and materials are coiiipatible and properly integrated with regard to size, function, and performance (see 3.9 and 6.3). The heaters shall be the quick recovery type utilizing steam as the heat source on either the shell or tube side. In addition, the heater shall heat or discharge w

43、ater at the recommended temperature and capacity upon demand. Heater systems shall have good accessibility to all internal and external parts for ease of Serviceability and cleaning. This requirement shall prohibit the location of inlet and outlet lines and auxiliary components from obstructing flan

44、ge end connections and other field removable parts. For example, the heat exchanger steam and water connections shall be accessible when installed on shipboard to permit both ease of inspection and removal. cleaning, or repair of the following: coil assemblies, cover plates, shell, shell liners, cou

45、plings, and so forth. Auxiliary water heater system components shall be accessible to permit ease of inspection, tool maneuverability, and removal and/or repair of these components See figure 1 for a typical Class A steam water heater system. The system shall include all components defined in system

46、 envelopes on figures 1 and 2. The equipment shall reflect good serviceability as specified in 3.6.13.5. See figure 2 for a typical Class B or C steam water heater system. 3.4 Reliability requirements. Each heater system shall have an operating life of 100,000 hours. The water heater systems shall h

Class A, class B, and class C heaters shall have an adjustable outlet water temperature range of 100 to 125“F, 120 to 160“F, and 140

49、to 180F respectively. The outlet temperature shall be maintained automatically to within plus or minus 5F of any setting within the adjustable temperature range, and any operating conditions within the limits specified in 3.7.1. 3.5.1 Anti-tamperinE device. When specified (see 6.2) for class A heaters, the contractor shall provide an approved (see 6.8) anti-tampering device to prevent unauthorized personnel from adjusting the temperature cont
