SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers the require

2、ments for a heat protective hood constructed from a para-aramid knit outer fabric having a highly reflective aluminized face with a protective lift-up visor. I .z 1.2 Classification. 25、r, shall supersede applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Guide sample. Samples, when furnished, are solely for guidance and information to the contractor (see 6.3). Variations from this specification may appear in the sample in which case

26、this specification shall govern. 3.2 First article. When specified, the contractor shall furnish sample unit(s) for first article inspection and approval (see 4.3 and 6.2). 3.3 Material. 3.3.1 Basic material. The material for the outer shell of the hood shall be a knit para-aramid fabric laminated w

27、ith a vacuum deposited aluminium on a .25 mil. polyester film on the face conforming to MIL-C-24929. 3.3.2 Quilted lining. The material for the quilted lining shall be aramid quilted batting conforming to type I of MIL-B-87002 except the use of recycled material (batting) is prohibited. The outer co

28、vering cloth shall conform to MIL-C-43774, except it shall have 69 filling yarns and the dimensional stability for warp and filling shall be 3 percent maximum. 3.3.3 Thread. The thread for assembling the outershell and for joining the outershell to the linings shall be a thread conforming to size T-

29、50 of MIL-T-44100, natural in color. As an alternate non-melting nylon (Aramid), natural shade, conforming to Size B and E of MIL-T-43636 may be used. 3.3.4 Interlining. The material for interlining the quilted lining of the hood shall be coated nylon taffeta conforming to type II of MIL-C-19699 exc

30、ept the colorfastness to crocking shall be not less than “fair“. 3.3.5 Elastic take-up strap . The material for the back take-up strap shall be elastic cotton webbing natural or dyed black conforming to class 1, of MILiW-5664, 3/4 inch wide, except that the colorfastness requirements shall not apply

The snap fasteners for attaching the hood front cover flap to the visor, the bib to the hood front cover flap, and to adjust the bib shall consist of Button and Soc

32、ket (female half), Stud and Eyelet (male half) and a combination Stud/Socket. The fasteners shall be style 2, 24-line (size 1) nickel plate or bright chrome finish conforming to MIL-F-10884, MS 27980 and the following part numbers: Button - 1N or 1C Stud - 7N or 7C Socket - 6N or 6C Eyelet - 8N or 8

33、C. 3.3.7 Chin (take-up) adjustment strap assembly. The chin strap assembly shall be as shown in drawing 16-1-847 and shall consist of cotton webbing with a hook and pile fastener closure. 3.3.7.1 Hook and pile fastener tape. The hook and pile fastener tapes shall conform to type II, class 1 of MIL-F

34、-21840. The tape shall be 5/8 inch wide for the chin strap, 1 and 2 inch wide for the frame cover assembly. The color shall be natural or black. 3.3.7.1.1 Webbing. The webbing shall be cotton, natural, bleached or dyed shade black conforming to type IIa, classes 1, 2, or 3, 3/4 inch wide conforming

35、to MIL-W-530, except that the colorfastness requirements shall not apply 3.3.7.1.2 Thread. The thread for assembling the chin strap shall be a thread conforming to ticket No. 50, 2 or 3 ply of MIL-T-43548. The color shall be natural or black. 3.3.8 Hood f acepiece assembly. 3.3.8.1 Visor. The visor

36、shall be polycarbonate sheeting conforming to MIL-P-46144, type I, grade A, clear, 0.125 (+ 0.015) inch thick or equal. Al1 dimensions shall be in accordance with draang 16-1-839. The visor shall be coated with anti-fog coating “Izonex“ by Exxene Corp. (see 6.4) or equal (see 4.4.1) . Stud/Eyelet sn

37、ap fasteners, and screws and posts shall be positioned according to drawing 16-1-839 with the studs on the outside of the visor. 3.3.8.2 Gold coated face shield. The material for the gold coated face shield shall be polyester type plastic film conforming to type III of L-P-377, except that the thick

38、ness shall be 0.007 (+ 0.001) inch and the maximum haze factor shall be 9.2 percent. The gold coated face shield shall be gold coated on one surface and then overcoated with an abrasion resistant coating (see 4.4.1) by vacuum deposition or other suitable techniques. The gold coated side shall be ide

39、ntified with the word “outside“ printed in black indelible ink letters of not less than 1/4 inch high along the edge of the sheet. The gold coated face shield shall be in accordance with drawing 16-1-842. It shall be positioned over the visor so that the “outside“ surface is away from the visor as s

40、hown in Figure 1. 3.3.8.3 Performance. 41、H-24925 3.3.8.3.1 Vertex power and prismatic power. The vertex power of the visor, excluding the area 3/4 inch from the outer edge, shall not exceed the inherent power to the required curvature and thickness by more than + 0.06 diopters in any horizontal meridian when tested as specified in 4.4.1;l.

42、 The inherent power of the visor shall be calculated by use of the following equation: F = (Fi + F2) -t n - 1 2 . or 1-1 - F= -t n F = Inherent power of the visor in diopters. FI = Power of the front surface of the visor in diopters. F2 = Power of the back surface of the visor in diopters. n = Index

43、 of refraction of the visor material. t = Thickness of visor in meters. r = Radius of the front surface of the visor in meters. 1 = Radius of the back surface of the visor in meters. The vertical prismatic components at any two points on any given horizontal meridian of the visor excluding the area

44、3/4 inch from the outer edge shall not differ algebraically by more than 0.125 prism diopter and the absolute vertical prismatic deviation measured from any point in any horizontal meridian shall not exceed 0.125 prism diopter when tested as specified in 4.4.1.1. 3.3.8.3.2 Optical distortion. The go

45、ld coated face shield and the visor shall be free from any visible distortion or optical defects when tested as specified in 4.4.1.2. 3.3.8.3.3 Luminous transmittance. The luminous transmittance of the visor shall be not less than 20 percent (illuminant C) when tested as specified in 4.4.1.3. 7 Prov

If there is visual evidence that some

47、 of the coatings were removed, the tested area of the gold coated face shield shall be tested again for optical distortion, hardness of coatings, and infrared radiant heat resistance. The gold coated face shield shall be acceptable if it meets the requirements of the above tests after the adhesion t

48、est. 3.3.8.3.5 Hardness of coatings. The coatings on the gold coated face shield shall not be removed or show visible evidence of marring or abrasion when tested as specified in 4.4.1.4.2. If there is visual evidence that some marring or coating removal has occurred, the tested area of the gold coat

49、ed face shield shall be tested again for optical distortion, luminous transmittance, and infrared radiant heat resistance. The gold coated face shield shall be acceptable if it meets the requirements of the above tests after the hardness test. 3.3.8.3.5.1 Cloth cheesecloth. The cheesecloth used in testing the hardness of coating for the gold coated face shield shall conform to type I, class 2 of CCC-C-440 (see 4.4.1.4.2). 3.3.8
