The purpose of this specification is to provide performancerequirements and testing methodology to ensure effective and standardized aircraftinterior lighting for NVIS compatibility.1.3 Classification. Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) compatible aircraftInterio
4、r lighting shall be of the following types and classes, as specified (See6.2.b).Type I Lighting compatible with any Direct View Image NVIS(see 6.5.1.1) utilizing generation 111 Imageintensifier tubes.Type 11 Lighting compatible with any Projected Image NVIS(see 6.5.1.2) utilizing generation III Imag

This specification defines the performance requirements andtest procedures applicable to NVIS compatible lighting systems for
21、new or modifiedaircraft lighting equipment and crewstations when specified in the weapon systemdesign specification.3.2 Selection of specifications and standards. Specifications and standardsfor necessary commodities and services not specified herein or in the individualequipment specifications shal
22、l be selected in accordance with MIL-STO-143.3.3 First article. When specified In the contract or purchase order (see6.2.d), a sample shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 4.4 and 6.4).3.4 =. When required by the acquiring activity (see 6.2.g) prior toincorporation into production or r
23、edesigned aircraft, an aircrew station mockupshall be prepared and made available by the contractor to ensure compliance withthe NVIS compatibility and lighting system, subsystem or component requirementsspecified herein. When inspected in accordance with 4.8.1, 4.8.2, and 4.8.3 the .aircrew station
24、 mockup shall conform to all of the requirements of thisspecification as applicable. There shall be no evidence of degraded NVISresolution in the presence of aircraft interior lighting when the observer islooking outside of, or transitioning from inside to outside of the aircraft.3.4.1 US Navy and U
25、S Army. For U.S. Navy and U.S. Army acquisitions the mockupshall conform to MIL-M-8650.3.4.2 US Alr Force. For U. S. Air Force acquisitions, the mockup shall conformto the mockup design requirements in MIL-L-6503 and.the rockup requirements in theU.S. Air Force AFSC Design Handbcmk, DH 1-3.I4Provide

Unless otherwise specified herein, lighting equipment for U.S.Navy and U.S. Army aircraft shall be in accordance with MIL-L-18276. For U.S. AirForce aircraft, lighting equipment sh
27、all be in accordance with MIL-L-6503. Whenused, light emitting diode displays shall be in accordance with MIL-D-87157.3.6 -. Wiring shall be in accordance with MIL-W-5088.3.7 Bonding. Bonding shall be In accordance with MIL-B-5087.3.8 Installation. Aircraft lighting equipment installation shall be i
28、naccordance with MIL-E-7080. When lights are installed in areas subject to adifferential in air pressure, a pressure barrier shall be provided between thepressurized section and the lights. Lighting fixtures shall not be used as part ofthe pressure barrier. All lights shall be oriented and all compo
29、nents shall be soindexed or designed that the lights are properly aimed when replaced or reassembledafter relamping.I 3.8.1 Accessibility. Accessibility of connectors shall be in accordance withMIL-STD-1472.3.9 -. Wherever possible, standard fixtures shall be used. Nonstandardfixtures approved by th
30、e acquiring activity may be used whenever aircraftconfiguration is such that performance requirements cannot be met by the use ofstandard fixtures as described, in the applicable documents cited herein. Thenumber of different types of lighting equipment, light sources, and power shall bekept to a mi
31、nimum in any given aircraft installation. All lighting sources shalltrack together tn luminance over the entire range of the lighting system inaccordance with 3.9.5.2.3.9.1 Lighting previsions. The design and location of the lighting equipmentshall optlmlze visual performance and minimize the effect
32、s on NVIS. Hhennecessary, the lights shall be shielded”to prevent direct or indirect glare fromInterfering with the aircrewmembers interior or exterior unaided vision and withthe image intensification capabilities of the NVIS. Lighting equipment shall be sodesigned that: (1) prescribed ground and in
33、-flight maintenance of the lamp can beaccomplished without damaging or degrading the performance of the equipment; and(2) the lamps will give satisfactory service under the environmental conditionsspecified by the acquiringactivity.3.9.2 Light sources. Light sources shall meet all of the.requirement
34、s herein,and shall be compatible with space, weight, and power constraints of the aircraft.Other issues which shall be considered in the selectlon of light sources are:a. design, production, support cost (i.e.”life cycle costs)b. reliabilityc. operating efficiencyd. heat generation5Provided by IHSNo

The console and instrument secondary lighting subsystemsand the emergency lighting subsystem, when provided, shall be connected to theessential bus of the aircraft electric system. The ot
36、her lighting subsystems shallbe connected to the primary bus.3.9.3.1 Protective devices. Circuit breakers, fuses, or other protectivedevices shall be provided to automatically disconnect the power from the lightcircuits in the event of a ground or short in the lighting fixtures, circuits, orcontrols
37、.3.9.4 Lighting power. Lighting subsystems shall be designed to operate fromthe applicable power circuits as specified in MIL-STD-704. Unless otherwisespecified by the acquiring activity, the lighting.subsystem shall be designed tooperate from a 5 V ac (400 Hz), 5Vdc, 28 Vdc, or a l15Vac (400 Hz) po
38、wersource.3.9.5. Lighting control location and actuation. Lighting controls shall beprovided to allow each crewmember to control the intensity of all of the interiorlighting subsystems that provide illumination for his crewstation. Lighting unitsrelated by function or area shall have common controls
39、 as required by the aircraftmission (e.g., functionally related units such as flight instruments or navigationcontrols). An adequate number of controls shall be provided to allow thecrewmember the flexibility to reduce glare, distractions, and fatigue.3.9.5.1 Lightinq control panels. Standard contro
40、l panels in accordance withMIL-C-6781 shall be provided for control of interior aircraft lighting. Inspectionshall be in accordance with 4.8.3.3.9.5.1.1 Control panel location. Each crewstationshall be provided with aIlghting control panel, convenient for operation by that aircrewman for controlling
41、all lights that are usually employed by that aircrew member only. For lights whichare usually employed by two aircrew members, lighting control panel(s) convenientfor operation by both of those aircrew members should be provided. Controls shallconform to the requirements of MIL-STD-203 or MIL-STD-25
42、0 unless otherwise approvedby the acquiring activity or specified herein. Control panels shall be located topermit unaided eye viewing by an aviator wearing NVIS without requiring extremehead movements.3.9.5.2 Controls. The Instrument and console lighting controls shall be -equipped with rotary cont
43、rol knobs in accordance with MIL-K-25049. These controlsshall allow the intensity of the lighting to be varied from “OFF” in the extremecounterclockwise position, over the full range of the control to maximum “BRIGHT”at the extreme clockwise position. The lighting intensity shall be varied in logfoo
44、tlamberts with control movement from minimum to maximum “BRIGHTNESS”. An “OFF”position shall be provided at the minimum control end of travel. Lightinglumlnance uniformity shall be in accordance with 3.10.11. Variableautotransformers or rheostats may be used depending upon,the type of powerutilized.
45、 When rheostats are used, they shall.be in accordance with MIL-R-22.Autotransformers shall be in accordance with MIL=T-27493. Other controlsdetermined to be more suitable for the NVIS application may be used subject toacquiring activity approval. For each individual electro-optical display, aseparat

If auxiliary covers are installed over the lightingfixtures, the covers shall not cause the light output to fall outside of th
47、e lightintensity limits of the individual equipment specification. The covers shall notcause light to be reflected or directed to interfere with the aviators unaided eyevision or the image intensification capabilities of the NVIS. The covers shall notfail or become distorted when the lamps are opera
48、ted in a continuously energizedmode during the designated mission. The covers shall meet the environmentalrequirements for the lighting fixture. The covers shall be provided with captivequick-disconnect type fasteners to insure easy and rapid removal for prescribedlamp maintenance actions,3.9.7 Mark
49、ings. Markings for information panels, control panels, instruments,controls, and placards shall be selected, arranged and marked in accordance withMIL-M-18012.3.9.7.1 Identification. Marking for identification shali be in accordance withMIL-STD-130. In addition, each component shall be marked with “NVIS Type ( ),Class ( .!,3.9.8 Instrument range markinqs. Instrument range markers shall conform to therequirements of MIL-I-18373.3.9.9 Critical information and
