In the event of a conflict between the text of this specification and the references cited herein (except for associated detail specifications, specification sheets or MS standards), the text of this specification shall take precedence. Nothing in this specificat

9、ion, however, shall supersede applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Illustrations. Figures 1 through 4 are for the convenience of identification, and are not intended to preclude the purchase of marking machines which are otherwise in acor

10、dance with the requirements of this spec i fi cat i on. 3.2 Design. Marking machines furnished shall be of the manufacturers latest design. The design shall be such as to provide convenient and safe operation. All parts of the machines shall be new, designed and constructed to the requirements liste

11、d herein. All parts subject to wear, breakage and distortion shall be readily accessible for adjustment and repair. The entire machine shall be UL approved. Asbestos shall not be used in the construction of thi s machi ne. 3.2.1 Safety devices. The marking machine shall be fitted with safety devices

12、 or coverings for all parts that present safety hazards. All coverings shall be designed to provide access to guarded parts. 3.2.2 Bearings. Bearings and sliding surfaces shall be cast iron, steel, bronze or commercially available ball or roller bearings where required and conform to commercial requ

13、irements. 3.2.3 Lubrication. All bearings (except sealed-for-life type) and other working parts shall be provided with ample and suitable means of lubrication. 3.2.4 Interchangeability. All replaceable parts shall be constructed to definite standards, tolerances, and clearances in order that any suc

14、h part of a parficular type or model may be replaced or adjusted without requiring mod i f i c at i on . 3.2.5 Material. The material to be used in the construction of marking machines shall be of uniform quality and condition, and shall conform in composition, heat-treatment, and sui tabi 1 i ty to

15、 the standard practices of manufacturers producing equipment of the type called for in this speci f i cati on. 3.3 Construction. The marking machine and its equipment shall be complete so that when installed in its intended application it can be used for any operation for which it was designed. Cons

16、truction shall be free from any characteristics or defects that will prevent the machine from passing any of the examinations and tests specified herein. 3.3.1 Castings and forgings. All castings and forgings shall be free fom defects, scale and mismatching. In no event shall such processes as weldi

18、oldering, Welding, brazing or soldering shall be employed only where those-operations are included in fabrication of the original design. These operations shall not be employed as repair measures for defective parts. 3.3.3 Surfaces. All surfaces of all castings, forgings, or molded parts shall be cl

19、eaned and free of sand, dirt, fins, sprues, scale, flux or other harmful or extraneous materials. External surfaces shall be smooth and all edges shall be rounded or beveled. 3.3.4 Painting. Marking machine shall be painted in accordance with the manufacturers standard practice. 3.3.5 Fastening devi

20、ces. All screws, pins, bolts, and similar parts shall be installed with means of preventing loss of tightness. All such parts when subjected to removal or adjustment, shall not be swaged, peened, stacked or otherwise permanently deformed. 3.3.6 Threads. All threaded parts shall be in the inch system

21、 and shall conform to Handbook H-28. 3.4 Marking machines, style A. Style A marking machine shall be similar 3.4.1 Type. Type shall be brass, zinc or equivalent hard surfaced to figure 1 and 2 and shall comply with 3.4.1 through 3.4.4. material able to retain its character with repeated heatings and

Letter and numeral type sets for marking insulation sleeve shall have a flat face and shall be furnished in 0.052, 1/16-, 5/64-, 7/64- and 1/8-inch heights as specified

A set of letters shall consist of 7 pieces of gothic style type for each letter of the alphabet. A set of numerals shall consist of 10 pieces of type for each digit, O t

26、hrough 9, inclusive. Other figures of type such as arrows, stars, and asterisks, shall also be available at the option of the procuring agency. All edges of the stamping face shall be provided with radii, to eliminate sharp corners or edges that may cause impairment of dielectric strength of sleevin

27、g or wire insulation. 3.4.2 Components. Marking machine shall consist of frame, base, type assembly, heating unit, electrical equipment, foi 1 assembly, operating mechanism, holding fixtures and foil. 3.4.2.1 Frame. The frame shall be designed to provide support and align the various assemblies. The
