2、r use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense. 1. SCOPE & 1.1 Scope. This specification covers one type of glass phenolic a plastic molding material. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS 2.1 Issues of documents. The following documents of the issue in effect on date of invitation for bids or

They 3. REQUIRFJGNTS 3.1 Preproduction sample. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or order (see 6.2)

11、, a preproduction sample of the molding material is required and shall be manufactured using the methods and procedures proposed for production (see 4.4.1). The sample shall be tested as specified in 4.5 for the purpose of determining, prior to starting production, that the contractors production me

12、thods are capable of producing molding material that compIies with the technical requirements of the contract. No raw material process changes shall be made, subsequent to approval of the preproduction sample, without prior written approval of the procuring activity. 3.2 Material. The product shall

13、be a glass phenolic plastic molding material, manufactured from Type E glass roving impregnated with a one-stage phenol formaldehyde resin. 14、The product shall be furnished in a chopped form. One hundred percent of the material shall pass through a 1.0 inch (25.4 nnn) sieve conforming to R-S-366. 3.4 Storage life. The molding material shall be capable of meeting all requirements of this specification for a period of 6 months from the date

15、 of manufacture when stored at a maximum . temperature of 4.5OC (40F). 3.5 Chemical and physical properties. 3.5.1 Uncured molding material. The properties of the uncured molding material shall be in accordance with TABLE I. 3.5.2 Cured molding material. The properties of the cured molding material

16、(see 4.5.1) shall be in accordance with TABLE II. TABLE I. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the supplier is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements as specified here

19、in. Except as otherwise specified, the supplier may utilize his own facilities or any commercial laboratory acceptable to the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies

20、and services conform to prescribed requirements. 4.2 Classification of inspection. The inspection requirements specified herein are classified as follows: a. Preproduction inspection (4.5) b. Quality conformance inspection (see 4.6) 4.3 Inspection conditions. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), al

21、l inspections shall be performed under the following conditions: a. Temperature: Room ambient 18 to 35OC (65 to 95F) b, Altitude: Normal ground c. Vibration: None d. Humidity: Room ambient to 95 percent relative, maximum 4.4 Sampling. 4.4.1 Preproduction sample. Unless otherwise specified in the con

22、tract or order (see 6.2), a preproduction sample of 50 kilograms (kg) minimum of molding material shall be manufactured in accordance with 3.1, packaged in accordance with Section 5 (2 unit packages, mnimum), and forwarded to an activity designated by the procuring activity (see 6.2) for preproducti

23、on inspection as detailed in 4.5. Further production of the molding material by the contractor, prior to approval of the preproduction sample, shall be at the contractors risk. 4.4.2 E. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), a lot shall consist of all molding material manufactured by the same process

Unless otherwise specified in the contract or order (see 6.2), minimum requirements for preservation, packaging and packing shall

31、be in accordance with MIL-P-116, method III. in the contract or order (see 6.2). the Uniform Freight Classification Rules, National Motor Freight Classification Rules, or regulations of other carriers as applicable to the mode of transportation. Plastic molding material in accordance with i this specification is intended for use in a molded component of a Terrier rocket motor. 6.2 Ordering data. Procurement documents should specify the s7 x follo

35、wing: 6.2.1 Procurement requiremenes. a. Title, number and date of this specification. b. Quantity required. c. Inspection conditions when other thanas specified (see 4.3). d. When a preproduction sample is not required (see 3.1, 4.4.1 e. Assigned activity for preproduction inspection (see 4.4.1). f

36、. Lot size if other than as specified (see 4.4.2) . g. Packaging requirements if other than as specified (see 5.1). h. Size of container required (see 5.1). i. Any special markings required (see 5.2). and 6.4). 6.2.2 Contract data requirements. Items of deliverable data required by this specificatio

Preproduction samples submitted and approved on a recent contract may be accepted by the procuring activity in lieu of an additional preproduction

40、inspection. When the preproduction sample is waived (see 6.2.l(d), the procurement document should contzin a statement specifying that the standards of workmanship exhibited by the previously approved preproduction sample shall determine the minimum requirements of the current contract or order. 6.5

41、 Suggested source of supply. A product which has met the requirements of this specification in past procurement actions is FM 16771-1 as man.ufactured by Fiberite Corporation, 501 W. Third Street, Winona, IfN 55987. of the procuring activity and is not to be construed as a waiver of any requirement of this specification.
