In the event of a conflict between the text ofthis specification and the references cited herein, the text of this specifica-tion shall take precedence.3. sRQUIRSMENTS3.1 Qualification. The grease furnished under this specificatio

The grease shall be a smo

15、oth homogeneous mixture, uniformin appearance j free from lumps, abrasive materials, or otherwise undesirablefillers or impurities. It shall consist essentially of a gelling agent and apetroleum oil. This grease shall not contain additives of the solid type.3.3 Corrosion on copper. After 24 hours ex

16、posure, the material shallshOw nO green cOlOr, Pitting or etching on copper, nor shall a brovn or blackstain remain on copper strip after washing with toluene or stoddard solvent,P-D-6813, type I, when tested as specified in 4.5.1. A slight stain shall notbe cause for rejection.3.4 penetration. When

17、 tested as specified in 4.5.1, the worked penetra-tion of the grease shall be not less than 265 nor more than 320.3.4.1 Penetration after prOlO”,ged workin When tested as specified in4.5.1, the penetration of the grease after 100,000 double strokes shall be notmore than 355.3.5 Dropping point. When

18、tested as specified in 4.5.1, the dropping pointshall be not less than 300”F (149C).3.6 Performance. When tested as specified in 4.5.4, the grease shalllubricate a size 310 hall bearing for at least 2000 hours at 250”F (121”c).3.7 Apparent viscosity. When tested as specified in 4.5.3, the apparentvi

19、scosity of the grease 6hall not exceed 250 poises at a shear rate of 200reciprocal seconds and a temperature of 32”F (OC).3.8 Dirt. When tested as spectfied i“ 4.5.1, the grease Ghan not containdirt or otforeign particles exceeding the following limits:(a) 7500 per cubic centimeter (cm3) of 25 micro

20、meters diameter orabove.(b) 1600 per cm3 of 75 mfcromstecs diameter or above.(c) None of 125 micrometers or above.3.9 Oxidation stability. When tested in accordance with 4.5.1, thegrease shall not cause a pressure drop exc2eding 25 pounds per square inch(lb/in2) in 500 hours on qualification tests o

21、r more than 10 lbfinz in 100 hourson inspection tests.3.10 Water resistance. When tested as specified in 4.5.1, not more than5 percent of the grease shall be washed from the bearing.3.1I Law temperature torque. W%en tested as specif ted 1“ 4.5.1, thegrease shall not cause a starting torque exceeding

22、 4500 gram centimeter(g-cm) or a running torque exceeding 1500 g-cm at minus 20”F (minus 6.7“c).3.12 Bearing protection. When tested as specified in 4.5.1, the greaseshall give a bearing rating of one.3.13 Workmanship. The grease, when examined visually, shall he a smoothand homogeneous mixture free

Unless otherwise specified in theor purchase o

24、rder, the centractor is responsible for the performanceof all inspection requirements as specified herein. Except as otherwise speci-fied in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or anyother facilities suitable for the performance of the inspection requirementsspectf ied her

25、ein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reservesthe right to perform any of the inspections set forth in the specification wheresuch inspections are deemed necessary to assure supplies and services conform toprescribed requirements .4.2 Classification of inspections . The inspectio

26、n requirements specifiedherein are classified as follows:(a) Qualification inspection (see 4.3).(b) Quality conformance inspection (see 4.4) .$.3 Qualification inspection. Qualification tests shall be conducted ata laburacry satisfactory to the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). Qualifica-tion tfis

27、csshall consist of all of the tests as specified in 4.5.4.3.1 Sampling for qualification inspection. From each lot, containersshall he selected as follows , and sealed, marked and forwarded to a testinglaboratory satisfactory to NAVSEA:(a) If grease is furnished in 1.75 pound containers, 10 containe

28、rsshall be furnished.(b) If grease is furnished in 6.5 pound containers, two containersshall be furnished.4.4 Qwality conformance inspection.4.4.1 Et formation. A lot shall consist of all the grease produced byone manufacturer, at one plant, from the same materials aridunder essentiallythe same cond

29、itions , provided the operation is continuous and does not exceeda 24 hcmr period. In the event the process is a batch operation, each batchshaLL constitute a lot . Nhen the containers for a production batch of greaseare of different sizes, the contents of each size container shall be sampledand ins

30、pected as a separate lot.4.4.2 Examination of filled containers . A sample of filled containersselected from each lot in accordance w.tthMIL-STO_105 at inspection level Iand acceptable quality level (AQL) - 2.5 percent defective shall be examinedto verify conipltance with all stipulations of this sp

31、ecification regarding fill,closure, marking and other requirements not involving tests. Containers shallbe examined for defects of the container and the closure, for evidence ofleakage, and for unsatisf accory markings; each sample fLlled container shallalso be weighed to determine the amount of the

32、 contents. Any container inthe sample having one or more defects or under required fill shall causerejection of the container, and if the number of defective containers in anysample exceeds the acceptance number for the appropriate sampling plan ofMIL-STO-1O5, this shall cause rejection of the lot r

Samples for qualityconformance inspection shall be in accordance with ASTM D 270, except for thefollowing:

Visual examination shall be conducted todetermine conformance with the requirements of 3.2 and 3.13.4.5.3 Apparent viscosity. The

38、 apparent viscosity of the grease shallbe determined in accordance with ASTM O 1092 except that the test shall beperformed in a low temperature box or bath, capable of holding the temperatureof the grease at 32 1.O”F (O + 0.5C). The grease shall arrive at the testtemperature in approximately 2 Fours

The apparatus shall be as show

40、n on figure 1 and shallconsist of the following:(a) Test spindle supported in a cast iron housing by two auxiliarybearings .(b) Driving motor belted to the test spindle to give the spindle aspeed of 3600 50 revolutions per minute (r/rein).(c) Electrically heated oven thermostatically controlled to m

41、aintainthe temperature of the test bearing within plus or minus 3F ofthe chosen temperature .(d) Test bearing no. shall be 111-05003-0100 in accordance withMIL-STO-1O2. (is beting is single-row, radial, deep-groove,unshielded with pressed steel retainer, size 310, grade AsEC-1with normal internal fi

42、t-up, made of SAE 52100 steel) enclosedin a housing and maintained in a position on the test spindleby a light press fit. A radial load of 150 pounds is appliedto the bearing by a spring mounted outside the oven. Detailsof the bearing housing shall be as shown on figures 2 and 3.(e) Covered .ltrason

43、lc cleaner with heater for cleaning test bearing.4.5.4.2 Cleaning material. Cleaning compound, solvent, trichlorot rifluoro-ethane in accordance with HIL-c-81302, type.11 shall be used.4.5.4.3 Preparation. For pregreased test bearings remove grease frombearing using narrow blade spatula. Test bearin

44、gs are then cleaned as follows.The test bearing shall be hand washed by slowly spinning it while PartiallYsubmerged in solvent confocming co MIL-C-81302. Stubborn deposits or clumps ofgrease can be worked with a clean brush having short, soft bristles. The bear-ing is then placed In the ultrasonic c

45、leaner located in a chemical fume hoodand covered with solvent. The solvent is heated to 117-F (47”C) while theultrasonic cleaner is cleaning the bearing. The bearing is inspected occasion-ally. When thoroughly clean ,the bearing is removed from the ultrasonic cleanerwhile it is operating. Cue to th

46、e cleaning temperature, the solvent will flashdry. The bearing is weighed. Grease is injected into the bearing using agrease gun with a needle tip having a 3/32 inch inside diameter until 30 + 0.1grams of grease having a specific gravity of 0.9 are uniformly distributethroughout the bearing. Grease

47、packs for grease with specific gravity otherthan 0.9 is as follows:Grease pack (gram) = 30 x (specific gravity of grease)0.9Grease shall not extend beyond the face of the races. The bearing shall thenbe installed in the bearing housing.4.5.4.4 Procedure. on initial start-up the testers are run for 2

48、4 hourswithout heaters. men the heaters are turned on and sufficient heat is appliedto bring the test bearing to the specified temperature within 2 hours. After144 hours of operation with heat, the spindle shall be stopped and the heatturned off. After a 24-hour shutdown, the heated operating cycle

49、shall berepeated.
