2、 1. SCOPE 1.1 Scope. This specification covers requirements for epoxy-based, vinyl ester resins suitable for lamination of boat hulls and other Naval applications. 1.2 Classification. Resin shall be of the following grades and classes, as specified (see 6.2). Grade A - General purpose. Grade B - Fir
3、e retardant. Class 1 - For use with glass fiber reinforcement. Class 2 - For use with Aramid fiber reinforcement. 2. In the event of a conflict between the text of this do

Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained by the resin manufacturer. 3. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 First article. When specified (see 6.2), a sa
19、mple shall be subjected to first article inspection (see 6.4) in accordance with 4.3. 3.2 Material. The resin shall be an epoxy-based, translucent, thermo- setting vinyl ester resin suitable for hand lay-up laminating of glass or Aramid fiber reinforcement. Grade B resin shall, in addition to the ch
20、aracteristics of grade A resin, be a halogenated (chemically-bound), fire retardant resin. 3.2.1 Cure. When mixed with appropriate accelerator or promoter and catalyst in accordance with the manufacturers instructions (see 3.4), the liquid resin shall cure at room temperature (55 to 95 degrees Fahre
21、nheit (OF) and remain translucent. 3.2.2 Additives. Resin additives shall meet the following requirements specified in 3.2.2.1 through 3.2.2.3. 3.2.2.1 Class 1 resin. Additives which affect the translucency of the glass fiber laminate and preclude visual inspection shall not be used. 3.2.2.2 Thixotr
22、oDic agents. A thixotropic agent of the type and quantity in accordance with the resin manufacturers instructions may be used as necessary to minimize drainage, provided there is no deleterious effect on resin proper- ties. e It may be supplied pre-mixed with the resin by the resin manufacturer. A small quantity of material may be added to the laminate surface coat, as recommended by the manufacturer, in order to obtain an air-curing (non-air inhibited) surface. 3.3 Toxi
24、c Droducts. The material shall have no adverse effect on the health of personnel when used for its intended purpose. this effect shall be referred by the contracting activity to the Naval Medical Command (NAVMEDCOM) who will act as an advisor to the contracting activity. The contracting activity shall be provided a material safety data sheet at the time of contract award. shall be provided in accordance with the requirements of FED-STD-313. shall be included with each shipment of the material covered by this specification (see 6.6

37、 a maximum flame spread of 50 (see 4.5.6.8). 3.7.4 Chemical resistance, Laminates shall have a maximum recommended use temperature of at least 180F (82 degrees Celsius (OC) after exposure to the following liquids for a period of 1 year: diesel oil, fuel oil, gasoline, hydraulic fluid, jet fuel, kero
38、sene, motor oil, and seawater (see 4.5.6.9). 3.8 m. Laminates conditioned as specified in 4.5.1 shall meet the requirements as specified in table IV. QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS 4.1 ResDonsibilitv for inspection. Unless otherwise s
45、pecified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor is responsible for the performance of all inspection requirements (examinations and tests) as specified herein. Except as otherwise specified in the contract or purchase order, the contractor may use his own or any other facilities suitable
46、for the performance of the inspection requirements specified herein, unless disapproved by the Government. The Government reserves the right to perform any of the inspections set forth in this specification where such inspections are deemed necessary to ensure supplies and services conform to prescr
47、ibed requirements. 4.1.1 ResDonsibilitv for compliance. All items shall meet all requirements of sections 3 and 5. The inspection set forth in this specification shall become a part of the contractors overall inspection system or quality program. absence of any inspection requirements in the specifi
48、cation shall not relieve the contractor of the responsibility of ensuring that all products or supplies submitted to the Government for acceptance comply with all requirements of the contract. Sampling inspection, as part of the manufacturing operations, is an acceptable practice to ascertain confor
49、mance to requirements, however, this does not authorize submission of known defective material, either indicated or actual, nor does it commit the Government to accept defective material. The 4.2 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are classified as follows: (a) First article inspection (see 4.3).
