SCOPE 1.1 Scope -

2、This specification covers the requirements for low-pressure laminating epoxy resins used in fabricating glass fabric- based plastic laminates for various applications (see 6.1 and 6.6). * 1.2 Classification - The resin shall be furnished in the fol- lowing types, grades, and forms, as specified (6.2

3、): Type I - General Purpose Type II - Heat Resistant .- Grade O - Nonelectrical. c Grade A - Dielectric constant (laminate) of 3.6 up to 4. O, .- Grade B - Dielectric constant (laminate) of 4. REQUIREMENTS * 3.1 Preproduction - The resin furnished under this specification shall be a product which has been subjected

16、 to and has passed the preproduction inspection specified herein. * 3.1.1 One-year weathering data - As part of the preproduction requirement, the supplier shall submit certified data showing that a glass cloth base plastic laminate, fabricated as specified in 4.3.1. i from the resin to be furnished

17、 under this specification, has been exposed to outdoor weathering in accordance with 4.5.6 for a period of one year and has subsequently met the ap- plicable requirements of Table I. The data shall identify the geographical location in which the outdoor weathering was accomplished, 3.2 Materials - T

18、he materials used in the manufacture of the resin shall be of high quality and as specified herein. The resin shall be an epoxy, thermosetting, low pressure laminating type, The component materials of the resin shall be such that the cured resin shall not be corrosive to metals. 3.3 Form - The resin

19、 shaU be in a form (liquid or solid) suitable for impregnating or may be furnished already impregnated on glass fabric (pre- impregnated). It shall be free from foreign materials. 3.4 Code number - The supplier shall designate each resin com- position by a code number that shall be used to identify

20、the resin. The code number may include trade name if desired. Any changes in the components or manufacturing proceduresshall necessitate use of a different code number. For pre-impregnated materials, those materigs using the same .resin but having different properties due to different impregnating c

21、onditions shall have different designations. The designation shall consist of the resin code number with a suffix indicating impregnating conditions, “ - . 22、es 7 For liquid or solid resin,. the supplier shall furnish limiting values for specific gravity, viscosity, and melting point of the unactivated redin; gel time and peak exotherm of the activated resin; .and the Barco1 hardness and specific gravity of the cured unfqled resin. For pw- impregnated ma

23、terial, -limiting values shall be furnished for the volatile content, dry resin content, and flow. These values and the methods of determination, when not specified herein, shall be included by the supplier in the hstruction sheet . (3.8) and shall be considered requirements of this specification fo

27、ckwellMhardness Bamolbardness (b) -Quality conformance inspection (4.4). * 4.3 Preproduction inspection - Preproduction inspection shall include all the .examinations and tests of this specification except the one year outdoor weathering test (4.5.6), for which certified test data shall be . submitt

28、ed by the supplier (3. i. l), and the examination of preparation for delivery (4.6.11). Unless otherwise specified (4.3.2), no material shall be offered for acceptance under any contract or order until the preproduction samples prescribed in 4.3.1 have been subjected to preproduction inspection and

29、ptonounced satisfactory by the procuring activity. However, approval of W the preproduction samples or of acceptable test data (4.3.2) in lieu thereg . shall not relieve the supplier of his obligation to meet the quality confornian or eight square feet, full fabric width, of pre-impregnated resin fa

30、bric as applicable, dependent on the form of resin supplied; also, a sufficient quantity of any curing agents (hardeners, accelerators, etc. ) needed for the preproduction tests of the resin under this specification. A 2 foot by 2 foot glass cloth base laminate sheet O. 125 *O. O10 inch thick (see 4

31、.3.1.1) or five sheets, each one foot square, of that thickness for determining mechanical and physical properties in the laminate. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or order, this sheet shall be pro- cessed by the supplier into the required number of test specimens for all mechanical and p

32、hysical tests, machined to size and suitable for testing. A 4 inch by 8 inch glass cloth base laminate sheet at least O. 75 inch thick (see 4.3.1.2) for tests of electrical properties (Grades A through. D only). - - 4.3.1.1 Laminate sheet for mechanical and physical properties - The laminate sample

33、for mechanical and physical tests shall be fabricated in the form of a sheet or sheets O. 125 ?O. O10 inch in thickness, using the resin which is under test and 12 plies, laid up parallel, of 181 glass cloth conforming to MIL-C-9084 with a finish compatible with the resin being tested. The sample sh

34、all be laminated at a pressure not exceeding 30 pounds per square inch and shall be fully cured in accordance with the resin suppliers instruction sheet. The sample shall be es- sentially void free and representative of the best jquality worlunanship and shall have a resin content by weight that wil

35、l produce a laminate with optimum properties. Specimens from this laminate shall be tested to determine conformance to the mechanical and physical requirements of 3.6. 4.3.1.1.1 Base fabric for pre-impregnated laminate samples - Unless otherwise specified, the laminate prepared for preproduction tes

36、ts of pre-im- pregnated materials shall be fabricated with 181 glass cloth, regardless of the base cloth to be used in the actual delivery of pre-impregnated resin. This sub- stitution shall apply to the lahate samples only, not to the pre-impregnated r- A samples of 4.3.1 (c) or 4.4.1.2. Provided b

38、 sample for electrical test (4.3.1 (e) shall be the same as those of the laminate fabricated in accordance with 4.3.1.1. The laminating plocedure shall follow, as closely as practical, the procedure used in 4.3.1.1. * 4.3.2 Preproduction inspection in repeat orders - In repeat orders or orders for d

41、ses, a lot shall consist of all the resin of one codenumber or designation subjected to inspection at one time. * - 4.4.1.2 Sample for material conformance - One gallon of liquid resin, 10 pounds of dry resin, or eight square feet, full fabricwidth, of pre-impregnated fabric, dependent on the form o

42、f resin supplied, shall be selected at random from each lot. Two copies of the instruction sheet specified in 3.8 shall be submitted with each sample; also a sufficient quantity of any curing agents needed for the ma- terial conformance tests under this specification. 4.4.1.3 Sample for conformance

43、to preparation for delivery - A sample of filled exterior containers shall be selected from each lot in accordance with the provisions of MIL-STD-105 for Inspection Level I and an Acceptable I Quality Level (AQL) of 2.5 percent defective. * 4.4.2 Rejection criteria - If any sample of liquid or solid

44、 resin or of pre-impregnated fabric, fails to conform completely with the require- ments of this specification, or if the preparation-for-delivery sample contains more defective units than permitted by AQL 2.5, the lot of resin represented by the sample shall be rejected. Disposition of rejected lot

45、s shall be in accordance with MIL-STD-105. I 4.5 Test conditions - 4.5.1 Standard conditions - Specimens shall be conditioned and tested at an air temperature of 23 k1.1 C (73.p +2 F) and relative humidity of 50 -14 percent. The conditioning period prior to test shall be 96 hours. * 4.5.2 Wet condit

46、ions (for mechanical and physical tests) - Speci- mens shall be immersed for 2 hours in boiling distilled water by Procedure E of MethodNo. 7031, Fed Test Method Std No. 406. Specimens shall then be cooled in water at 23 kl. 1“ C (73.4 +2 F) and tested wet ai that temperature , immediately after rem

47、oval from the water. In case of any question as to validity of the test results, bpecimens shall be soaked for 30 days in distilled water at 23 k1.1 C and tes:ed wet at that temperature immediately after removal from I the water. Results obtained under the latter conditioning shall be final. 4.5.3 E

48、xposure to 70“ C - Specimens shall be exposed for 1/2 hour to a temperature of 70 k1.1 C (158 +2 F) in a previously heated test chamber and shall then be tested immediately at the same temperature. 4.5.4 High temperature conditions (260 mm. ) (Type II only) - 4.5.4.1 For mechanical and physical test
