25、dregulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained.3. REQUIREMENTS3.1 First article. When specified (see 6:2), a sampleshall be subjected to first article inspection (see 6.3) inaccordance with 4.5.3.2 Materials. The material for ball and plug valves shallbe as specified herein. Material sel

27、he acceptance of the finishedAcceptance ornot be construed as aproduct.3.2.1 . Ball valve stems shall be nickel-copper alloyin accordance with QQ-N-281.3.2.2 Impregnation. Impregnation of valve body castings,where required, shall be accomplished in accordance with MIL-STD-276 and MIL-STD-278.3.2.3 M

28、etallic parts. The bodies, balls, plugs, covers,glands and base plates shall be made from tin-bronze, alloysC90300 or C92200 in accordance with ASTM B 61, ASTM B 584, orQQ-C-390: nickel-aluminum-bronze, alloy C95800 in accordance withASTM B 148 or MIL-B-24480; nickel-copper alloys in accordancewith

29、ASTM A 494, QQ-N-281 or MIL-C-24723: or nickel-copper-aluminum alloy in accordance with QQ-N-286.3.2.4 Fasteners. Fastener material shall be nickel-copper,grades 400 or 405 in accordance with MIL-S-1222, ASTM F 467, orASTM F 468 or nickel-copper-aluminum grade 500 in accordance withMIL-S-1222.3.2.5

30、O-rinqs. O-rings shall be fluorocarbon elastomer inaccordance with MIL-R-83248.3.2.6 Non-metallic Darts. Unless otherwise specifiedherein, SealS, seats, gaskets, diaphragms, bearings, and Othernon-metallic parts shall be commercial, made of fluorocarbonresins or other materials compatible with sewag

31、e, seawater, andvalve body material. Materials such as glass or graphite fillermay be added to fluorocarbon resin, to improve wear resistance.3.2.7 Recovered materials. Unless otherwise specifiedherein, all equipment, material, and articles incorporated in theproducts covered by this specification s

32、hall be new or may befabricated using materials produced from recovered materials tothe maximum extent practicable without jeopardizing the intendeduse. The term “recovered materials” means materials which havebeen collected or recovered from solid waste and reprocessed tobecome a source of raw mate

33、rials as opposed to virgin rawmaterials. None of the above shall be interpreted to mean thatthe use of used or rebuilt products is allowed under thisspecification unless otherwise specifically specified.thenot3.3 Construction. Ball and plug valves shall conform torequirements and dimensions specifie

The valves shall be tightseating at all ports. Valve bodies sha

35、ll withstand the appliedstresses developed during operation of the valve. Valves shallbe operable by one person. Plug valves shall not utilize a liftarrangement to unseat the plug before rotating, to reduceoperating torque. Valves shall not be stick or gun lubricated toeffect a seal or reduce operat

36、ing torgue. Low frictionfluorocarbon resin material shall be employed on valve surfacesto prevent sticking and to provide low operating torgue for easeof actuation. The ball or plug ports shall properly align withthe body ports in all flow positions. The plug shall not raiseor lower when subject to

37、line pressure or vacuum.3.3.1 Dimensions. Valve face-to-face and center-to-facedimensions shall be in accordance with table I for the valve sizespecified (see 6.2) . Face-to-face tolerance shall be plus orminus 1/16 inch. The center-to-face tolerance shall be plus orminus 1/32 inch. Flow passages sh

38、all be full ported round boreand shall be equal to the nominal size of the valve (see table I)with a tolerance of plus 1/16 minus zero inch. The inlet andoutlet ways shall be chamfered to provide a smoother transitionfrom the valve bore to match the bore of the end flange of thesame nominal size. Di

39、mensions and machining of end flanges shallbe in accordance with MIL-F-20042, class 150. Drilled holesshall straddle the vertical centerline. Ball and plug rotation shall be limited bypositive stops to the zero and 90 degree positions, and the zeroand 180 degree posi

41、tions, for 90-degree and 180-degree turnvalves, respectively (see figures 1 through 9) . 42、arks. The valve shall incorporate provisionsfor positively restraining the ball or plug in each of its flowand closed positions.3.3.3 Stem, ball, and Pluq. The stem and plug shall befabricated from one piece, or the stem positively attached to theplug by welding in accordance with MIL-STD-278. Plug

43、and seatsurfaces throughout the periphery shall be smooth and providemaximum area contact with minimum clearances. Plug and seatsurfaces shall have no grooves, cavities, or relief spaces totrap sediment or solidifying residues between the plug and bodyduring plug rotation and in the plug closed and

44、flow positions.Ball and plug ports shall align with the body in the flowposition so as not to create pockets or steps that could collectsewage or solid matter in the valve. Ball valve cavities shallbe filled with fluorocarbon resin inserts to prevent trappingsediment or solidifying residues in the v

45、alve cavities. Ballvalve stems shall not be removable while the valve is installedin the piping and in service, and shall be “blowout! proof inconstruction, such as with a collared stem.3.3.4 Low friction surfaces. Valves shall consist of aball or plug rotating in the valve body cavity and operating

46、against a port seat or seal face of polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) material. Valve port seat or seal shall exert positivecontact pressure against the ball or plug during rotation and inall valve positions. The valve plug or ball shall be uncoated orcoated with PTFE fluorocarbon resin. Low friction tr

47、eatedsurfaces shall be either coated or sleeved with fluorocarbonresin (PTFE) in accordance with ASTM D 1457. Fluorocarbon resinsurfaces that rub on one another shall be of slightly dissimilarformulations to reduce galling. Sleeved plug valves shallconsist of a plug rotating in a PTFE resin sleeve p

48、ositivelysecured in the valve body plug cavity. The sleeve may also actas the port seal.3.3.4.1 Coating. Coating material shall be baked on spray-aPplied PTFE fluOrOcarbOn resin material. Coating thicknessshall be 6 roils minimum (See 4.7.2).3.3.4.2 Sleeve. Valve plug cavity sleeve shall be moldedfr

49、om PTFE material. The sleeve shall be securely attached in thevalve body plug cavity by a suitable locking method such asinterlock grips or grooves to prevent loosening in service.3.3.5 Handwheels and lever handles.
