2、PE MILITARY 1.1 This specification covers resinoid bond JAN-P-105 -Packaging and Packing for Overseas Shipment-Boxes ; Wood, Cleated, Plywood. JAN-P-106 -Packaging and Packing for Overseas Shipment-Boxes ; Wood, Nailed. and metal bond diamond-impregnated wheels and hand hones for precision grinding

3、and lapping operations on materials such as ce- meted carbides, refractory ceramic products, high speed steel milling cutters, etc. 2. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Qualification,-Diamond impregnated abrasive wheels and hones furnished under this specification shall he a .product which has been tested and has passed the qualifica- tion tests specified in section 4 (see 6.2). 3.2 Material.-The abras

11、ive section of the wheels and hones shall be made of diamond abrasive and bonding materials eonsidered by the manufacturer to be best suited for the work to be performed. 3.3 Bond.-The wheels and hand hones shall be furnished with resinoid or metal bond, as specified (see 6.1). 3.4 Shape and dimensi

12、ons.-The shape and dimensions of wheels and hand hones shall be as specified (see 6.1). (“Type” as used in this specification designates the shape of wheel, as practiced in industry and specified in the Department of Commerce Simplified Practice Recommendation R45-47 on Grind- ing Wheels, July 1,194

13、7.) 3.5 The wheels and hones, when used to grind cemented carbide tools, shall be free cutting, shall resist loading and glazing, pro- duce a satisfactory finish, hold a satisfactory edge, and shall not require frequent cleaning or dressing. 3.6 The diamond abrasive, when examined under a binocular

14、microscope, shall be uni- form in size and distribution of grain. 3.7 Wheels shall be balanced to run at the operating speed without vibration. 3.8 Two blotting paper disks of appropriate size and thickness, or their equivalent, shall be provided with each peripheral type wheel. 3.9 Marking. 3.9.1 E

15、ach wheel 2nd hone shall be marked or labeled in a legible manner with the follow- ing data: Manufacturers name or trade-mark. Abrasive type (wheels only). Grain size. Grade (wheels only). Concentration (wheels only). Bond type. Depth of diamond impregnation. Speed recommended for service (wheels Si

16、ze (wheels only). only 1 3.9.2 Wheels and hones in sizes and shapes which do not permit marking in the above manner may be marked with the required data in accordance with the best commercial practice. 3.10 Workmanship. - The workmanship shall be first class in every respect. 4. SAMPLING, INSPECTION

18、.2 Qualification tests at a Government laboratory.-Qualification tests shall be con- ducted at a Government laboratory desig- nated by the Bureau of Ships. These tests shall consist- of the tests specified in 4.5. 4.3 Sampling for lot acceptance. 4.3.1 Inspection lot.-All wheels or hones of the same

19、 bond, shape, and size presented at one time shall be considered a lot for pur- poses of acceptance inspection. 4.3.2 Sampling for inspection.-A random sample of wheels or hones shall be selected from each inspection lot of material offered for Government inspection of visual and di- mensional chara

20、cteristics with lot acceptance based on the single sampling inspection re- quirements cif table I in accordance with Standard VlIGSTD-105. 22、pector shall again select and examine sam- ples from such resubmitted lots to verify compliance with this specification. 4.5 Test procedures. 4.5.1 The manufacturer shall furnish wheels as specified in 4.5.2 of the type or types regularly manufactured and of such grade as, in his opinion, will give

23、the best results when operated under the conditions specified herein. The sample wheels shall be taken from the manufacturers regular stock, and shall be representative of the quality of the product to be furnished under contract or order. 4.5.2 The sample wheels shall be as fol- (a) Two straight ty

Manufacturers listed on the Military Qualified Products List for resinoid bond diamond impregnated abrasive wheels will be con- . sidered qualified to furnish resinoid bond diamond impregnated band hones. Manufacturers listed on the Military Qualified Prod- ucts List for

27、 metal bond diamond impregnated abrasive wheels * will be considered qualified to furnish metal bond diamond im- pregnated hand hones. 4.4 Inspection. 4.4.1 Visual and dimensional inspection.- Each of the sample wheels or hones selected in accordance with table I shall be visually and dimensionally

28、inspected by the Govern- ment inspector to verify compliance with this specification. Any wheel or hone in the sample containing one or more visual or di- mensional defects shall be rejected, and if the number of defective wheels or hones in any sample exceeds the acceptance number for that sample,

29、the lot represented by the sam- ple shall be rejected. 30、lly spaced bolt holes drilled and countersunk from the rim side for ?L or the abrasive surface has worn to such a degree that the wheel is no longer usable. 4.5.4 The cup type 6, metal bond wheel shall be used to off-hand grind single point cemented carbide tipped tools under standard operating cond

31、itions at approximately 5,500 surface feet per minute. A coolant shall be iised. When considered necessary during the test, by reason of loading, grooving, or slow material removal, the wheel shall be lapped using standard procedure. The wheel shall be operated until it loads, glazes, or grooves to

32、such an extent that it can no longer be satisfactorily dressed ; retards production to an appreciable extent by reason of too fre- quent lapping; or the abrasive surface has worn to such a degree that the wheel is no longer usable. 4.5.5 The sample wheels when tested as specified in 4.5.3 and 4.5.4,

33、 shall produce the finish specified on the minimum number of cemented carbide tipped tools shown in table II. 34、s reserved to destroy the sample wheels submitted for the purpose of determining the nature f the abrasive ma- terial. 4.6 The purpose of the tests specified here- in is to determine the quality of diamond im- pregnated abrasive wheels for the specified type of work. It is not considered necessary t

35、hat these tests be performed for all exhibitors on the same machines and the Government reserves the right to substitute one make of machine or another or to overhaul exist- ing machines provided that in its opinion, the essential performance characteristics of the machine are maintained. 5. PREPARA

36、TION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Packaging. 5.1.1 Wheels.-Wheels shall be individually packaged with cellulosic material conforming to Specification UU-C-843 in full telescope, shouldered, or slide Set-up boxes conforming to Specification JAN-P-133. 5.1.2 Ho?ses.-Hones shall be individually packaged in snug-fi

37、tting, full telescope, shoul- dered, or slide Set-up boxes conforming to Specification JAX-P-133. 0.2 Packing. 5.2.1 FOT domestic shipment.-Wheels and hones, packaged as specified in 5.1, shall be packed in wood-cleated fiberboard, wood- cleated plywood, nailed wood, wirebound wood, corrugated fiber

Gross weight of shipping containers shall not ex

39、ceed approxi- mately 150 pounds. The gross weight of fiber- board boxes shall be subject to the limitation of the box specification. 5.2.1.1. Closure of fiberboard boxes. - Bottom flaps shall be sealed by means of a suitable adhesive or shall be metal-stitched, or by a combination of both. Top flaps

40、 shall be sealed, stitched, taped, or closed by a com- bination of any.of these methods. If taped, kraft gummed tape of not less than 2i/-inch width, 60-pound basis weight shall be used. Three strips shall be applied to the top so that all seams are covered their full length. Tape applied over cente

41、r lengthwise seam shall extend at least 3 inches on to each of the end panels. 5.2.2 For oversea shipment.-Wheels and hones, packaged as specified in 5.1, shall be packed in cleated plywood, nailed wood, wire- bound, or fiberboard boxes conforming to Specification JAN-P-105, JAN-P-106, MIL B-107, or

42、 JAN-P-108, respectively. Ship- ping containers shall be lined with a sealed waterproof bag made of material conforming to Specification JAN-P-125, for case liners. Seams and closures shall be sealed with ad- hesive conforming to Specification MIL-A- 140. The gross weight shall not exceed ap- proxim

43、ately 150 pounds for boxes of wood construction; 70 pounds for boxes of fiber- board construction. 5.2.3 For domestic or oversea shipment.- Shipping containers shall be of uniform size, shall contain the same number of items, and shall be designed to fit the contents in a com- pact manner. 5.3 Marki

NOTES 6.1 Ordering data. - Procurement docu- ments should specified the following: (a) Title, number, and date of this spe

45、ci- (b) Bond required (see 3.3). (c) Shape and dimensions (see 3.4). (d) Grain size and grade or type of oper- ation to be performed and kind of material to be ground (see 3.9.1). (e) Concentration and depth of diamond impregnation (see 3.9.1). fication. (f) The make, model number, and spindle speed

46、 of the grinding ma- chine (wheels only) (see 3.9.1). (g) Whether packing for domestic or oversea shipment is required (see 5.2). 6.2 In the procurement of products requir- ing qualification the right is reserved to re- ject bids on products that have not been sub- jected to the required tests and f

47、ound satis- factory for inclusion on the Military Qualified Products List. The attention of suppliers is called to this requirement and manufacturers are urged to communicate with the Bureau of Ships, Navy Department, Washington 25, D. C., and arrange to have the products that they propose to offer

48、to the Army, the Navy, or the Air Force, tested for qualification in order that they may be eligible to be awarded contracts or orders for the products covered by this specification. Information pertaining to qualification of products covered by this specification may be obtained from the Chief of t

49、he Bureau of Ships, Navy Department, Washington 25, D. C. 6.3 In the event that wheels have been tested in accordance with 6.2, and subsequent tests are desired by the manufacturer on im- proved products, consideration will be given for additional tests.
