、 ENGINEERING DATA CALCULATIONS A.1 RECOMMENDED MAXIMUM BEAM DEFLECTION The maximum beam deflection is recommended to be no greater than 0.625 in. (15.9 mm). A.2 BEAM DEFLECTION/SUPPORT SPACING CALCULATION The following equation can be used to calculate maximum support spacing for a fixed and uniform

、ly loaded beam with five or more interior continuous spans loaded and equal in length. L = 240 EIW4Where: L = Distance from support to adjacent support measured in inches W = Unit Load (pounds/linear inch of conduit and cable) E = Flexural modulus in units of pounds force per square inch at 73.4F (2

、3C) or the maximum ambient temperature anticipated I = Area moment of inertia about the centroidal axis of the conduit cross-section, measured in units of inch to the fourth power 240 = Maximum recommended midspan conduit deflection (0.625 in.) x the constant (384). NOTE Should conduit deflections o

、ther than in. (15.9 mm) be desired, the above equation can be used to calculate the distance between midspan support. For such a calculation, substitute the desired deflection in inches for 0.625 inch in the equation to obtain a value different than 240. To determine the spacing for the last two spa

、ns at the ends of the bridge, multiply the midspan spacing by 0.79. A.3 BENDING RADIUS CALCULATION A.3.1 U.S. Units The minimum bending radius in U.S. units can be calculated with a maximum design bending stress of 5,000 psi using the following equation: R = (E)(OD)24 Where: R = minimum radius, ft E

、 = bending modulus, psi OD = outside diameter, inches = design stress NEMA TC 14.XW-2015 Page 3 2015 National Electrical Manufacturers Association A.3.2 Metric Units The minimum bending radius in metric units can be calculated with a maximum design bending stress of 34.474 MPa using the following eq

、uation: R = (E)(OD)2000 Where: R = minimum radius, M E = bending modulus, MPa OD = in millimeters = design stress NATIONAL ELECTRICAL MANUFACTURERS ASSOCIATION 1300 NORTH 17TH STREET, SUITE 900 ROSSLYN.
