5、 Die Castings 8.5Si - 3.5Cu (A380.0-F) As Cast (Composition similar to UNS A13800) RATIONALE AMS4291J revises Default Radiographic Acceptance Standards (Table 2), and Method and Frequency of Inspection (3.5.2) and is a Five-Year Review and update of this specification. 1. SCOPE 1.1 Form This specifi

6、cation covers an aluminum alloy in the form of die castings. 1.2 Application These castings have been used typically for components of intricate shape, but not having thin sections, but usage is not limited to such applications. This alloy has good casting characteristics by cold-chamber die casting

7、 and fair resistance to corrosion. 2. APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS The issue of the following documents in effect on the date of the purchase order forms a part of this specification to the extent specified herein. The supplier may work to a subsequent revision of a document unless a specific document issue

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS 3.1 Composition Shall conform to the percentages by weight shown in Table 1, determined by wet chemical methods in accordance with ASTM E34, by spectrochemical methods in accordance with ASTM E607, or ASTM E12

14、51, or by other analytical methods acceptable to purchaser (see 3.4 and 8.2). SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS4291J Page 3 of 6 3.3 Castings Castings shall be produced from metal conforming to 3.1, determined by analysis of a specimen (3.4) cast after the last melt

16、addition. 3.4 Chemical Analysis Specimen Shall be cast after the last melt addition and shall be tested to qualify the melt lot as in 3.1. Spectrochemical sample shall be prepared in accordance with ASTM E716. 3.5 Quality Castings, as received by purchaser, shall be uniform in quality and condition,

17、 sound, and free from foreign materials and from imperfections detrimental to usage of the castings. 3.5.1 Radiographic, liquid penetrant, and other quality standards shall be as agreed upon by purchaser and producer. When acceptance standards are not specified for radiographic inspection, the requi

18、rements of Table 2 shall apply, utilizing the reference radiographs of ASTM E505. 21、 shall constitute the approved casting procedure and shall be used for producing production castings. If necessary to make any change in parameters for process control factors, producer shall submit for reapproval, a statement of the proposed change in processing and, when requested, sample casting.

22、 Production castings incorporating the revised operations shall not be shipped prior to receipt of reapproval. SAE INTERNATIONAL AMS4291J Page 5 of 6 4.4.2.1 Control factors for producing castings include, but are not limited to, the following: Type of furnace Furnace atmosphere Alloy additions, flu

23、xing, deoxidation, and gas removal procedures Location and number of gates Location and number of knockout pins Mold temperature and tolerances Injection pressure and tolerances Metal injection temperature; variation of r50 q F (r28 q C) from the established limit is permissible Solidification and c

24、ooling procedures Straightening procedure, when applicable Cleaning operations Methods of inspection Radiographic inspection sampling plan, if used. 4.4.2.1.1 Any of the above process control factors for which parameters are considered proprietary by the producer may be assigned a code designation.

25、Each variation in such parameters shall be assigned a modified code designation. 4.5 Reports The producer of castings shall furnish with each shipment a report showing the results of tests for composition of each melt and stating that the castings conform to the other technical requirements of this

26、specification. This report shall include the purchase order number, melt and lot numbers, AMS4291J, part number, and quantity. 4.6 Resampling and Retesting If any specimen used in the above tests fails to meet the specified requirements, disposition of the castings may be based on the results of tes

27、ting two additional specimens for each original nonconforming specimen. Failure of any retest specimen to meet the specified requirements shall be cause for rejection of the castings represented. Results of all tests shall be reported. 5. PREPARATION FOR DELIVERY 5.1 Identification Shall be in accor

28、dance with AMS2804. 5.1.1 Impregnated castings shall be marked IMP. 5.2 Packaging Castings shall be prepared for shipment in accordance with ASTM B660 and in compliance with applicable rules and regulations pertaining to the handling, packaging, and transportation of the castings to ensure carrier a

29、cceptance and safe delivery. 6. ACKNOWLEDGMENT A producer shall mention this specification number and its revision letter in all quotations and when acknowledging purchase orders. 7. REJECTIONS Castings not conforming to this specification, or to modifications authorized by purchaser, will be subjec

Castings having the composition shown in 3.1 shall be supplied whenever either Composition 1 or Composition 2 is specified on the drawing. 8.3 Terms used in AMS are clarified in ARP1917 and as follows: 8.3.1 Melt A single homogeneous batch of molten m

33、etal to which all melt additions and processing have been completed and from which castings are poured. 8.3.2 Melt Lot Castings poured from a single melt. 8.4 Dimensions and properties in inch/pound units and the Fahrenheit temperatures are primary; dimensions and properties in SI units and the Cels

34、ius temperatures are shown as the approximate equivalents of the primary units and are presented only for information. 8.5 Purchase documents should specify not less than the following: AMS4291J Part number or die number of castings desired Acceptance standards for non-destructive inspection (see 3.5.1), plus method and frequency of inspection (see 3.5.2) Quantity of castings desired. 8.6 Similar Specifications AMS-QQ-A-591, Alloy 380.0, is listed for information only and shall not be construed as an acceptable alternate unless all requirements of this AMS are met.
